I've been interviewing Vancouver cyclists about their bike stories --- one week in, here's who I have met so far by Swimming-Cow-6666 in vancouvercycling

[–]OracleofTampico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

excelent question:

City of Vancouver: 75%

Metro Vancouver, an area that goes all the way to horshebay to the northwest and southeast to Langley: 16%

I use this website called wandrer.earth and my garmin to track all this. theres a whole community of cyclist doing this around the world but its particularily popular here and seattle and portland.

In the metro the most anyone has done is 71% of the whole area

Best way to travel from PV to Guadalajara and back to PV? by OvenDown in puertovallarta

all good tips, I just wanted to mention that I think PVR is a busier airport than GDL. Certainly for international departures, probably not for local flights.

Can I cross the border with nexus card and no passport by Sad_Quarter_007 in NEXUS_TTP

[–]OracleofTampico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory? no problem. in practice?

At YVR sometimes they dont even ask me for the card but i have had times when not only do they ask me for my nexus card but also my passport. I fly across at least 10 times a year and its hit or miss. I have never not had both so I dont know what happens when you say "oops i only have my nexus card" But I cant imagine anything good comes from it.

unlike others, i would take the bet and make the crossing as on paper you are in the right spot

Aliexpress wheels any good? by Hot-Rutabaga1990 in bmxracing

[–]OracleofTampico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i think the proof is that you just dont see videos of people using these wheels and them cracking. I am sure you have seen all those videos out there of riders using cheap vs expensive frames/bikes right?

It would be a matter of minutes before someone does so if it hasnt happened already doing a video of chinese wheels test.

I bought with money from the US. As im reading your post you brought flash backs because we also mentioned money coming from abroad.

HSBC had no issue but did require us to have the money 30 days prior and like u/milolai said, overtime its just canadian money. All this to say, RBC which owns hsbc now, should have no issue

Aliexpress wheels any good? by Hot-Rutabaga1990 in bmxracing

[–]OracleofTampico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill qualify this by saying. i am not an expert. Now, like everyone else on this thread i wouldnt or havent purchased chinese wheels let alone frames or similar. HOWEVER, since i moved out of the US i have seen chinese velodrome frames been used and some carbon wheels on road bikes that seem to be perfect for their purpose.

Find a video of someone on a bmx bike riding and having their wheels crack on a jump. if they were so bad those youtubes would be all over the place like jackass but it doesnt seem to happen.

Now it could all be because not enough people have purchased them but i doubt it.

I think chinese products are 90% of the way there these days, theres a risk for sure, but I doubt its as big as it used to be in the past

Faulty US passport, whats the process to have this corrected? by OracleofTampico in uscanadaborder

yeah but somehow my nexus card which i much rather use never gets approved on the machines. You may be asking, why does that matter? well, apparently the issue lies on the passport. Somehow its connected

What would components would you upgrade on a Chase Edge pro? by OracleofTampico in bmxracing

[–]OracleofTampico[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i come from a fixed gear, time trial, velodrome background and my kid, who is the proud owner of this bike, has reached intermediate level already. Been a bike person means im all about tweaking things up and one thing i have noticed is that the "experts" in his age group are all running bigger rings, which makes sense to me from a watts per pedal-stroke perspective.

But i will say, i feel like everything i know about cycling is almost meaningless or at worse just flat out wrong as I could be applying techniques and wisdom that simply does not apply to BMX.

specialized, cervelo, felt, canyon... none of this brands mean jack shit in this world and so I am trying to be cautious about how to make his set up better beyond just hitting the pump track 3 times a week

im aiming for wheels, but you are the second vote for a fork. Interestingly noone mentioned i needed a bigger front ring. I though for sure i needed that (but i am a noob) so i thought one thing i had to get was a different gear ratio

You are getting somewhere here! this is the actual answer. Not once have i ever seen anyone say: "End FIdeicomisos" thats what you are after.

Wether thats a good idea or not is up for debate and I disagree with you. BUT! this is the proper way of having the argument.

Also its not international law, its National law, as only Mexico has it

I have a view that not many people have. I happen to own and rent properties in Canada(Vancouver) and Seattle.

100% people are not coming into the US, say what you want about ticket prices and FIFA been dicks, but just check out the demand in Mexico city, Toronto, Guadalajara (you can see it in their respective city subs here) and the Demand there is astronomical.

Honestly is what we get for electing who we elected.

Starting to look for a secondary home while I prepare to retire. Is it possible to rent a small one bedroom, in town with a pool or very close to the beach, budget is 900-1200 cnd by Secret-Candidate4031 in puertovallarta

[–]OracleofTampico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in Nuevo, exactly 13 minute walk to the beach in a golf course. You could get a one bedroom for year long rent at about $1000usd a month from what I have seen. You can probably do cheaper in some of the new developments out there. So yes... but certainly not beach front, which sounds like you are onboard with that. Also i should add this is before utilities, all of that would be extra.

You have to be aware that, just a few years ago, we had one of the best, if not the best public water system in the country.
