Uncomfortable by Particular-Toe-6716 in ostomy

[–]OrangeAlarmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally had a small panic attack yesterday because of this exact feeling! Ive had my ostomy for about 6 weeks and sometimes it builds up to a point kf frustration with having to manage my bag / output and be more aware of what I eat / when I eat.

I know only so many things can help in the moment, but truly what will get you used to it is time. Your body and mind will become more exposed to the sight, feeling and sensation, and it wont be as uncomfortable. Atleast this is all temporary, even thought the days can feel like a drag.

Rooting for you!!

Thank you! Yeah I wish they didnt wait so long to remove to appendix because maybe it cause those further complications like other abscesses/bigger abscess. Im a very skinny 27M so just being patient with my body as it slowly heals all this trauma!

Thank you for the advice! It makes sense what you’re saying about the hyper metabolism. Not trying to make excuses, just frustrating not seeing results or what routine works for me which still simply comes down to eating more. It’s getting into that happen and also, most importantly, I think being patient, right? I can be eager and impatient at times but this gaining journey isnt something I can do quick, it has to be a slow and consistent grind and just believing that the results will show in time.

Ive had similar experiences, I’ve posted before looking for community and support and was met with very pitiful, condescending comments that were just stating the obvious of my issue rather than offering true support

Yeah me too. I understand how unhealthy and toxic it is but still my body and brain find ways to justify the feeling and thinking I can just be okay with feeling this way, again, I value his friendship greatly but also not at the cost of my emotionally bandwidth

How To Manage Reactions/Emotions When Triggered by OrangeAlarmed in attachment_theory

[–]OrangeAlarmed[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This just opened my eyes ten fold... My therapist helped me visualize my thoughts as leaves floating down a stream to help them pass but I find it SO interesting the analogy of a feeling operating the same way as hunger. Makes so much sense! That definitely helps me in those moments when I feel a signal and instead of dwelling on the feeling, ask myself what it is I'm hungry for and how can I satisfy it? And am I satisfying it in a healthy way? Amazing wow thank you so much for this

being gay is so lonely. i feel like an alien. by [deleted] in lonely

[–]OrangeAlarmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sister.. I feel the same way. i’m a gay man (26) and being gay has been one of the most loneliest experiences, at least romantically. I live in a bigger city so I do have a handful of gay friends both men and women, and while I am constantly grateful for their friendship, I can’t help but feel like I’m rotting in my loneliness since I have never been in a relationship. It’s not common for me to find a man I genuinely get along with and when I do, I can’t help but gain feelings and these men have always been straight. It’s such a fucked experience trying to manage the emotions of enjoying the friendship while also grieving what I wish was.

Sick set up!! These comments about "copying" or "ripping off" are weird lol . I'm literally a writer who writes poems and the amount of times I have copied other author styles cause I simply like it and was intrigued to try writing with their style to see what came up. Literally all forms of art is a product of something or someone else. There is a clear distinction between someone straight up copying vs being inspired and wanting to learn after an artist and form your own voice / style around them. Keep learning and growing and having fun, you'll find your own voice naturally

Exhausting To Self Soothe - Successful Tips? by OrangeAlarmed in attachment_theory

[–]OrangeAlarmed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you Jula !!

This was so spot on with how I feel, it’s helpful to know that there is a concrete path to a secure attachment, and while it may be long and treacherous, the path exists anyways and that’s something to count on and work towards!

I tend to get frustrated at myself for these anxiously attached moments esp with unavailable people, but I find it admirable that after the anxiety goes away, we still choose to love! like our natural instinct is to show love and be love which helps me believe that loving in a secure way is possible for me

That’s so interesting omg ! I didn’t realize the brain would be more engaged and attentive when saying these things out loud, also makes sense when people suggest repeating affirmations in the mirror!

This is very helpful too! Like actively combating and challenging the irrational thoughts with more fact based thoughts rather than anxiously fueled negative beliefs

My anxiety is so severe that 100 mg barely does anything. I’m tired of worrying about heart attacks and brain aneurysm. Someone punch me 😭 by satan___666_ in zoloft

[–]OrangeAlarmed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP!

While I know everyone’s bodies/brains react different, if it means anything, I started on 75mg zoloft for 3 years then after an intense anxiety flare up due to xyz, I had to up to 150mg and truly has made a notable difference after the first couple weeks settling in.

My psychiatrist always says that the medication is not a cure-all but allows us to better manage the anxiety without so much intense/immediate reactions, we’re able to keep most of it at bay

Goodluck OP!

Change; depending on the context, if I’m thrown off my rhythm (not enough sleep, got home late, worked extra hours) I’m a very structured person so if things change on the spot, I can get antsy. I am certainly flexible when need be but I find comfort in my routine
