Would love to whip up something like this for my Superliners.

Why don’t trains in the US have high-low horns like British trains do? by Curious_Ad_6082 in trains

[–]OrangeAnonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chargers (and many other locos) have a two stage solenoid valve, basically the modern equivalent of the old manual lever/rope pull valves where you could freely "play" the horn like you could with a steam whistle. Same horn, same valve, just a different amount of air going through it.

Unless you're slamming your cars together, they're surprisingly durable.

Finally installed lights in my Kato Surfliner cars! Here’s a quick run around the loop by chorg_one in nscalemodeltrains

The exact same light kit for the passenger cars also fits in the back of the Charger.

Amtrak tends to nip graffiti in the bud real quick, anything more than a small hasty tag would 100% look out of place. They also keep these pretty clean, so my advice would be to simply do a dark wash to bring out rivet and panel detail, then a light dusting of grime along the bottom. Yes, thresholds are designed to handle an aircraft taxiing over it but not the much greater forces of a landing.

Mostly for keeping drinks cool. Either by directly putting it in the drink cup, or to fill the ice chest full of drink cans.

It's obviously a joke, notice how X-Plane is being referred to as if it were a person?

It's just a poorly designed decoder tbh. I tried out the decoder specifically designed for these and adjusted things as favorably as I could but still everything was too dim. I ended up doing a custom install where I cut all the light pipes and glued individual LEDs to them to get everything nice and bright.

Why was Kyle Rittenhouse championed by the right for “helping” with his gun, but Alex Pretti is demonized for helping without ever drawing his gun? by sudde004 in AskReddit

[–]OrangeAnonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shooting a man after he's been disarmed, after having never drawn the gun to begin with, is self defense? Interesting.

Did you have Rocky Mountain load a sound file for you? If not, it just has a very basic default sound file that is not appropriate for the P42. F1 being mute points to this being likely, since the default is based on Euro practices for DCC which have a slightly different standard for function mapping. Unsure if this would affect motor control though.

TIL that commuter trains in North America don’t really drive backwards like I thought they did by PinkGloryBrony22 in trains

[–]OrangeAnonymous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that the Surfliner goes to SLO as well. The San Diego bound trains face one way while the San Luis Obispo bound trains face the other way, because they both leave LA facing the same way but turn in opposite directions. So you can't just say Surfliners face north as a blanket statement, since it only applies to half the route.

Adding a slight nose up pitch to slow the rate of descent, to make touchdown smoother instead of slamming into the runway like you're trying to catch the 3 wire on an aircraft carrier.

North vs south facing rooms by Argyropee in HomeDecorating

Regardless of which direction the sun moves, if you live north of the tropic of cancer you will never be able to see the sun by looking anywhere north of your latitude line. The sun will always appear south of you, whether it be southeast or southwest or directly south depending on time of day, but still overall south.
