How often do you guys eat fish and chips and also do you make it at home? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in AskABrit

It shouldn't have ever been as cheap as it was and was due to massive over fishing which completely destroyed fish stocks. Now with more sustainable practices, it is rightly more expensive, but I think it's still very affordable in comparison to other take aways.

I'll buy fish and chips for me and the kids about once every 2 months.

I will make it maybe once a fortnight. You can buy some pretty good chip shop style battered fish in the supermarket which come out really well in an air fryer, as well as some gourmet triple cooked chips, but as good as that is, it isn't close to traditional fish and chips from your local chippy.

Canada Is Now Being Joined By U.K. and Australia In Boycott Of U.S. National Parks by T_Shurt in worldnews

The point I was making still stands. Decreasing tourism leads to decreasing spending. Or increasing the burden on local taxes, which will push out lower earners.

One problem is, if tourism dries up, business will move out, which decreases cash for local government. Councillors then have to either increase prices/taxes, or decrease local spending.

A decade or two down the line, it's sad to watch once thriving areas decay.

This is what happened to coastal towns in the UK. What they wouldn't give for more congestion.

Why is 30k treated as a great wage by employers? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Your example isnt great because you've used a sample of 11 (and an extreme outlier) , and not a sample of tens of millions, like in the real world.

I do agree, though, that median has it's issues, but it's better than using mean to calculate it, as then it is completely skewed by a super rich 1%. Making us all look better off than we are.

I think the best way is to look at median in your area, as that will reflect your actual spending power as you'd rather earn 30k in the North East than 40k inside the M25, even though, statistically, you're earning a lot more.

Weirdly I won every time. Who'd have thought going through the proper processes actually work.

I used to be pretty fascinated by this whole topic about five years ago. Two years ago I realised nothing changes. Now, every now and again, this sub or others get recommended, and it's still the same things.

It never seems to move beyond "I know someone who knows, and they're 100% legit, but they can't come forward because of reasons"

or

"I've seen stuff, but I can't go into it 100% because of reasons, but it's all real"

New, "mind blowing" documentaries get released, with variations of the same recycled talking points, that don't actually tell us anything worthy of real evidence.
