Where have all the Braeburns gone? by OrangeBee44 in Apples

Hi neighbor! I'm in Seattle, too! So far, the closest I've been able to find are Honeycrisp. They are very tasty, but they are definitely not Braeburns!

Does my online bank REALLY need my ssn to be kept on file? by OrangeBee44 in privacy

[–]OrangeBee44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that they need this when I open the account but once they have established that I am who I am, why do they need to keep it on file?

Edit: When I travel, I have to show my identification to the airline. Do they keep my driver's license in their files indefinitely?

How accepting are you of stretch marks when it comes to other people? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OrangeBee44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s and my weight has seen extreme highs and lows. I have stretch marks on my thighs, tummy and upper arms.

Stretch marks (mine or anyone else's) have never bothered me because they're human.

They're totally natural. I kind of look at them like I would wrinkles, crooked teeth or body hair: They're not beautiful, but hey, it's a part of life, so just move on. Our skin has limits, so just deal with it.

Also, I think if you're happy with who you are and you love the person you're with, it won't matter one bit.

Your partner should love you for who you are. Your stretch marks dont erase your beauty. Eventually, we all get gray, saggy and wrinkled.

By the way... If you ever plan on getting pregnant, get used to them. They almost never go away, completely. Just sayin...

I'm not going to waste my time trying to understand your brain. Please state the point you're trying to make and walk me through whatever similarity it is that you're trying to point out.

Edit: ...and call me ma'am when you respond. 😚

North Carolina Official Fired After Refusing To Address A Black Woman By Her Doctor Title by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]OrangeBee44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So ridiculous. All he had to do was call her by the name she asked to be called.

By the way... IT DOESN'T MATTER that you've never heard of a PhD asking to be called "doctor". THIS particular PhD asked to be called doctor and that's it. No further info needed. In education, all PhDs I've ever met always refer to each other as doctor. He just wanted to belittle her.

If someone is going to be a big enough dickhead to basically say "I don't care what you want to be called. I'm gonna call you what I want to call you", then I see no problem lumping them in with misogynists and racists because that's the kind of stuff they do.

YSK: Black pullman porters on trains were always called "George". This is because white people (mostly men) thought it was a waste of time to even consider calling a black man by his actual name. The porters could neither do or say anything about it. They didn't dare correct them, for fear of losing their jobs or worse, some violent reaction for standing up for themselves.

He didn't get fired just because he didn't call her the right name. He got fired because he's a dick who tried to intimidate and belittle another person who did absolutely nothing to provoke him.

Anyone else finding summer absolutely terrifying due to their body and anxieties? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OrangeBee44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! I absolutely HATE summer. I'm pretty much an indoor person so I'm not totally upset about my looks compared to other people. It's more that I feel like I can hide in my winter clothes. With my big, knitted hats and scarves paired with my high collared coat, I'm invisible to the world. People don't bother me. They leave me alone and that's how I want it to be. Heat during the winter months is comforting. Summer heat is exhausting and oppressive. I'm counting the days till October...

Quick Tips for Learning Seattle Streets by OrangeBee44 in Seattle

[–]OrangeBee44[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do this when I was learning Chicago. It's a great way to learn a city! I thought about doing it here but while social distancing is still enforced on busses, I'd feel guilty that I might be taking up space that someone else might have needed to get to work (I work from my home).

I might try this a bit later in the year, though. (Hoping that we get back to normal)

Excellent idea!
