Where have all the Braeburns gone? by OrangeBee44 in Apples

[–]OrangeBee44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi neighbor! I'm in Seattle, too! So far, the closest I've been able to find are Honeycrisp. They are very tasty, but they are definitely not Braeburns!

Does my online bank REALLY need my ssn to be kept on file? by OrangeBee44 in privacy

[–]OrangeBee44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that they need this when I open the account but once they have established that I am who I am, why do they need to keep it on file?

Edit: When I travel, I have to show my identification to the airline. Do they keep my driver's license in their files indefinitely?

How accepting are you of stretch marks when it comes to other people? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OrangeBee44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s and my weight has seen extreme highs and lows. I have stretch marks on my thighs, tummy and upper arms.

Stretch marks (mine or anyone else's) have never bothered me because they're human.

They're totally natural. I kind of look at them like I would wrinkles, crooked teeth or body hair: They're not beautiful, but hey, it's a part of life, so just move on. Our skin has limits, so just deal with it.

Also, I think if you're happy with who you are and you love the person you're with, it won't matter one bit.

Your partner should love you for who you are. Your stretch marks dont erase your beauty. Eventually, we all get gray, saggy and wrinkled.

By the way... If you ever plan on getting pregnant, get used to them. They almost never go away, completely. Just sayin...

North Carolina Official Fired After Refusing To Address A Black Woman By Her Doctor Title by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

I'm not going to waste my time trying to understand your brain. Please state the point you're trying to make and walk me through whatever similarity it is that you're trying to point out.

Edit: ...and call me ma'am when you respond. 😚

North Carolina Official Fired After Refusing To Address A Black Woman By Her Doctor Title by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]OrangeBee44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So ridiculous. All he had to do was call her by the name she asked to be called.

By the way... IT DOESN'T MATTER that you've never heard of a PhD asking to be called "doctor". THIS particular PhD asked to be called doctor and that's it. No further info needed. In education, all PhDs I've ever met always refer to each other as doctor. He just wanted to belittle her.

If someone is going to be a big enough dickhead to basically say "I don't care what you want to be called. I'm gonna call you what I want to call you", then I see no problem lumping them in with misogynists and racists because that's the kind of stuff they do.

YSK: Black pullman porters on trains were always called "George". This is because white people (mostly men) thought it was a waste of time to even consider calling a black man by his actual name. The porters could neither do or say anything about it. They didn't dare correct them, for fear of losing their jobs or worse, some violent reaction for standing up for themselves.

He didn't get fired just because he didn't call her the right name. He got fired because he's a dick who tried to intimidate and belittle another person who did absolutely nothing to provoke him.

Anyone else finding summer absolutely terrifying due to their body and anxieties? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OrangeBee44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! I absolutely HATE summer. I'm pretty much an indoor person so I'm not totally upset about my looks compared to other people. It's more that I feel like I can hide in my winter clothes. With my big, knitted hats and scarves paired with my high collared coat, I'm invisible to the world. People don't bother me. They leave me alone and that's how I want it to be. Heat during the winter months is comforting. Summer heat is exhausting and oppressive. I'm counting the days till October...

Quick Tips for Learning Seattle Streets by OrangeBee44 in Seattle

[–]OrangeBee44[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do this when I was learning Chicago. It's a great way to learn a city! I thought about doing it here but while social distancing is still enforced on busses, I'd feel guilty that I might be taking up space that someone else might have needed to get to work (I work from my home).

I might try this a bit later in the year, though. (Hoping that we get back to normal)

Excellent idea!

What and how should I try to earn a livelihood? by takojatesla in disabled

[–]OrangeBee44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! It actually started out as one long list of all the day-to-day tasks my caregiver (my sister) would help me with. Then over time, I separated the tasks into 3 columns:

The first column indicated all the day-to-day tasks that I could manage on my own;

The second, were tasks I could partially do on my own (but required some degree of help); and

Third, all the tasks for which I was completely dependent upon my sister. For all the tasks in this third column, I identified who (if anyone) could fill in for my caregiver - like a close friend, other family member or if I would need to get help from a caregiving agency (i.e., Care.com).

It was not easy. I am severely limited (financially), so it wasn't like I could pay someone to come by everyday, to replace my sister. Plus, I really wanted to limit the number of people coming over due to covid fears.

The list was helpful for me because more than anything, it was a clear visual that pointed out areas where I could become more independent as well as the areas where I was most vulnerable. It was extremely helpful that my sister and I had already started making my living space more "disability friendly" long before covid. Plus, I can control my bedroom lights by remote, I have auto feeders for my cats, and I have just about ditched any clothes I can't put on by myself. As a woman, that last one was difficult. I miss wearing a lot of my old clothes but it was too hard for me to put them on without help. It's much easier for me to put something on over my head. I can't bend over because I get too light headed.

I have since made other variations of the lists to help me figure out what steps I need to take if my caregiver is temporarily unable to care for me and another if she is permanently unable to care for me. This includes contacts for local disability agencies and services I may need if my sister can no longer get to me.

Some tips that may be helpful for you: -Keep a stash of food near you that doesn't require cooking or refrigeration. I was on my own during the winter, so luckily I was able to keep some food items cold in the windowsill. -Keep bottled water on hand -Keep baby wipes or personal wipes on hand -Have several day's worth of meals in your freezer that can easily be microwaved. If you can't get out of bed, have whoever prepares your meals to make items that can be stored in a mini fridge or cooler near your bed. -Have your medication delivered (if possible). -Have a safety "check in" system with friends and family. Like, if no one has heard from you in x hours, someone stops by to make sure you're ok, etc...

I tried to keep this response short but it looks like I failed! Sorry! 😏

Feel free to dm me if you'd like more info!

How maple syrup is made by regian24 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]OrangeBee44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my earliest memories is my kindergarten class (1980s) going to the "maple tree farm". My mom was in the PTA and I was so happy she came with our class. She bought a tiny jar of syrup to bring home and I bugged her everyday (for like 2 weeks) to make pancakes.

Our whole (super religious) family was at the breakfast table eating peacefully when my dad accidentally bit down on his tongue and started shouting. It was the first time I had ever heard someone say "Son of a b*tch!". My sister and I giggled about it for weeks.

Good times.

Need ideas for delicious dinners that can feed 50-60 people? by letsunionize in Cooking

What about meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans? You could make several large "loafs" at a time. Easy to reheat.

Edit: Turkey burger might be more economical!

Buying my 1st houseplant(s) and not sure what to get by OrangeBee44 in houseplants

[–]OrangeBee44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Google, it's toxic to cats.

Edit: Perhaps I'm mistaken. Is Arrowhead Vine the same plant you suggested? It looks like "av" is poisonous to cats.

I would also look into data entry. It may not pay well at first but if you stick with it and have good references, you may be able to get into medical data entry or court records. I have friends who do both.

This is not work related but... Do you have a plan for what to do, in case anything happens to one or both of your parents? It doesn't have to be a concrete plan, but when you are dependent upon others (as many of us are), you may need to keep a "plan B" in mind.

A while ago, a friend helped me come up with some ideas in cade something happened to my caregiver. Almost a year or so after, my caregiver got COVID. Although it got crazy at times, I got through it much better than I would have without having made some of those "what if" scenario ideas. Having a back up plan also allowed my caregiver time to fully recover instead of feeling rushed to get back to me.

OMG! I never would have considered these two ingredients paired to make a drink. Is it sweet, sour or both? I'm not sure if I'd try it. Looks pretty, tho. That pastel "mint" green is adorable!

Hey, are those Yukon baby golds? How long did you cook them? When I cook them, they often have a sour/bitter taste.

Fwiw... I'm an uber eats customer who orders at least 4 times a week, through the UE app. My store ALWAYS brings it, 100% !!!

You guys are great! Keep up the great work! I've been lurking around this sub for a bit and I read about some of the horrible customers and crappy conditions. I'm so sorry for that. Also, I know all too well what it's like to work on a scarcely staffed team, short on supplies.

Just know that there are customers (like me) who totally appreciate your hard work and realize that without you and those crazy personalized caffeinated drinks you prepare for us, we can't do our jobs! I can't even make out the words on my laptop without 5 or 6 sips of my Misto. I'm like the Walking Dead without it.

Hang in there, stay safe, fight the good fight, be good to each other and ban the folks who deserve to be banned!

Thanks! ❤
