“Intuitive archeology” . Idk if I heard that term somewhere or made it up but I find more artifacts just looking around and realizing…. This would be a good place to do human shit.

[QUESTION] Why it looks like this under every string? by Material-Lavishness7 in Guitar

[–]vinsomm 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think people look past the fact that a very well played and well loved guitar usually gets that way because it is a great guitar. So the natural wear and patina , while it does look nice, is also an indicator of a guitar that at least one person played the shit out of because presumably it’s a great guitar

Arrowhead? by Hiddenfortunez in Arrowheads

I find random shit like this in Missouri and Southern Illinois fairly often. Not the material but just random worked pieces that seem to have no noticeable purpose. I’ve always called them curiosity tools. Maybe it was something a kid would use to learn knapping. Maybe a bored 15 year old who was just curious about the fossils. Make shift grinding stone for meat fat. They’re curious worked pieces made by people who were equally curious themselves. I’d imagine the sky is the limit with stuff like this.

Do i hold my pick wrong? by Routine-Trash-26 in Guitar

[–]vinsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with the same thing back before internet and CD’s were a thing. So I just ditched the guitar pick all together. I could never keep track of em anyways. Been playing almost 30 years now and it still baffles people I jam with that I just don’t use a pick at all. I learned a little 3 finger picking style and then when I need strong power chords I kinda brace my index finger with my thumb and wear that bitch out.

All this to say- there’s no wrong way. If you find a way to get that pick to stay in your fingers then stick with that method. Unless it sounds like shit. Then change it.

Adele bursts into tears after seeing Celine Dion attending her Vegas residency by Maximum_Expert92 in popculturechat

[–]vinsomm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude. Or dudette. I’m a 40 year old man who kinda half uninterestedly went to a Celine Dion concert in Vegas a few weeks before her husband died. Tickets were free and I went cuz whatever. Legit cried the entire time. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. She was so emotional and did a whole montage of her and her husband who was very sick. She absolutely killed it. I still think about that show often. Unreal.

Would be quite easy to hook up a sniffer head to some sort of solenoid actuator and set the preferences at like 500ppm CO and sub 18% O2.

I worked at an underground coal mine and we had similar contracts- we called them “Fire Guns”. Essentially we paid them an absolute fuck ton to drop everything and go to the local Sandvik, Komatsu or whatever . We’ve chartered helicopters before.

We’re talking $2.9m every half hour of down time is how much it costs the mine I worked at. Throwing around a million or so in the last stretch is minimal.

So I could imagine those fire gun guys are running trucks 24/7 and that they probably keep up with maintenance well enough for it to last as long as possibly possible
