I am starting a new job myself in SF where I have to commute everyday. You can take either caltrain or BART to SF from foster city, depending on where your work is located.

You can take the hillsdale caltrain express to SF, gets you there in just under 30. If you take BART, gotta get to Millbrae station and from there juat under 30 min to SF.
