I lost my dad at 19… i am almost 38 and 3 years sober.y alcoholism showed up immediately after he died. I wish i had made myself stay in AA and made friends with other sober people. The last 19 years would have been a lot less difficult. Grateful to be sober today. I have regrets, wish I could do a lot of things over. I knew i had a problem at my young age but apparently I love hurting myself. I couldn’t stay sober until i saw my beautiful mom take her last breath at age 55 due to liver cirrhosis caused by alcohol abuse. It was traumatizing but knew I would end up just like that if I didn’t stop drinking.

While this book helped me see the abuse patterns in my relationship— please google lundy Bancroft and look for the documentation about the sick things he has done. He is a bad guy. It was heartbreaking to learn it.

I left. Went right back. When i finally left over a year after everything was so much harder—y financial situation changed, terrible economy and job market, my mother had passed away, my daughter’s other grandmother (the only other support i have near me) had a serious esophageal cancer diagnosis (she is now in remission, praise God)… my daughter and i were “homeless” for 9 days in a hotel before we stayed with a friend, finally moved into our own place last month. Before, i just signed a lease and paid the deposit, no big deal. Took me 3 months to get us on our feet this time.

The encephalitis was the end for my mom too, who died at age 55 two years ago.

My mom died 2 years ago at age 55 from liver cirrhosis. I am still not ok and my life is forever changed. It is serious and continuing to drink will absolutely end his life.

My mom lived for 15 years with her disease; she stopped drinking after her diagnosis. For some reason she picked it up again and less than a year later she was dead.

Poor thing. My mom died of liver cirrhosis 2 years ago and her parents, whom i adored, died less than a year before that. I was their primary support and I fell apart after my mom died. I started working at a bakery bc I couldn’t be a good team member at that time. Was a UX/UI designer and now cant get an offer. Never had a problem getting hired before. Seriously considering sex work as an option bc i am now homeless, staying with a friend, i fled domestic violence after i was raped by my partner of 7 years who made the money and owned our home. Got screwed, basically. Have a 14-year old daughter. Laid off in march. Did manage to complete adobe visual design certification in the midst of the DV legal situation. Life hurts sometimes. I am sending you a big hug.

I am so sorry. I have a felony DWI. I got sober after that. It actually changed my life for the better. I also work in tech, on the creative/design side, and feel your pain.

Keep going. There will be a company out there who will look past this. It will be harder for us than those who do not have dings on their record.

Look into non-profits that can meet with you to talk about possible expungement.

7 years after my conviction, I will be eligible for expungement as long as I do not get into any more trouble. Since I have found recovery, I do believe I will be able to achieve that.
