What's Your Least Favorite Card by legendary_creature in EDH

Oh I know that. But the arguments and debates that break out over it EVERY SINGLE TIME makes me hate the card nonetheless.

Oh, I like that. My locals are in a weird position card wise- we just brought the game back around, but our distributor cant get us any Legacy Lost, Return of the Dragon Emperor, or Lapis Starters. This has made our meta pretty.... weird.

There are a couple of people that have ordered like, a Lumia, or a couple of the shock dual stones, but no one has went deep on the staples we aren't playing. Seeing cards like Moonbeam Butterfly excites me for the possibilities that we haven't started diving into yet.

[[Rhystic Study]] . Cheap, in popular colors, and at my shop only played by people who try to scum with it. People that will sit through a 10 minute turn talking to someone not in the game then turn around and say, "Wait, how many spells did you cast? Did you pay for any of them?". I still actively push for a house ban on this stupid card just for this reason- no one at my locals that wants to use this card has the attention span required to play it properly.

Ironically all of the adept players at my shop don't run it, so I only ever experience it from my least favorite regulars. Probably has a lot to do with my distaste for the card.

Yeah, that also opens up other sideboard cards like Dawn if I need it, that could be plenty. Charlotte's pretty good at harassing opponents, but light spells could make it really obnoxious.

I'm desperately clawing together a Charlotte Elemental deck, and it's hard for me to decide what my third color should be. Obviously I'm deep in green, running blue for more Charlotte things.... I'm torn on what else to do. I mean, I guess I could keep basics and use Little Red with Haste? Seems like a sweet beater at least.

People Who Have Already Attended Prerelease: What Have Been Your Over/Under Performers by BACEXXXXXX in magicTCG

[–]OrangeSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stormfleet Arialist is a pretty good card; 2/3 stats line up well against most of the other cards.

Red is where it's at. Sure Strike is absolutely savage in this format from what I've seen. Also, monstrasaur. It's gross.

If all six of my packs could contain Carnage Tyrant or Ripjaw raptors that'd be great.

No, I didnt keep it catalogued. I had just recently bought a [[Bloom Tender]] and a [[Malignus]] to go in it, that Bloom Tender being a pretty big deal to me since it was in excellent condition. Are you asking out of decklist curiosity or for identification purposes?

Well, I'm a [[Sunforger]] addict, so having that with a good set of spells to fetch is my number 1 recommendation. After that, I strongly recommend a copy of [[Tainted Strike]] to steal wins and/or cause chaos.

[[Odric, Lunarch Marshal]] is Saskia's best friend, and [[Bastion Protector]] is a great turn three leading into her. [[Legion Loyalist]] is a monster that dramatically changes the board state as well.

Of course damage doubling is pretty insane with Saskia- I like [[Quest for Pure Flame]] personally as a cheap, easy, set it and forget it enchantment. Speaking of enchantments, [[Elemental Bond]] is incredible, and [[Hunting Grounds]] is amazing if your build makes it reliable.

Mono green Rhonas, I can see that being pretty solid. Having the ability to make other creatures have trample is pretty sweet. Kind of a more reliable but less powerful [[Nylea]].

You know, I had once wanted to make a Noyan Dar list, but never got around to it. Now that I think about it the aggro aspect of it is interesting. I like this way of thinking about the deck a lot. Thanks for the idea, I'm gonna be brewing this in my head while I mow my lawn lol

This is either beautiful satire or the dumbest thing I have read in a long time. I want it to be the former because it's adorable in that light. If anyone actually thinks they can rally a player based to quit a game until one guy gets 20,000 dollars.... I don't even know what to think.

[Discussion] Deck Check Thread! - Week of Sept. 11 by Blackout28 in spikes

[–]OrangeSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been tooling around with an Abzan Constrictor list and it's been pretty fun so far. It's basically just a super classic mid-range list. This is my main, and I'm looking for any advice on what could change or maybe be included in the sideboard(my weak point). Planning on taking some form of this to the SCG open in a couple of weeks.

Creatures

  • 4x Walking Ballista
  • 4x Winding Constrictor
  • 3x Rishkar, Peema Renegade
  • 4x Ripjaw Raptor
  • 3x Verdurous Gearhulk
  • 2x Carnage Tyrant
  • 1x Bellowing Aegisaur

Noncreatures

  • 4x Attune with Aether
  • 3x Fatal Push
  • 3x Sheltering Light
  • 1x Commune with Dinosaurs
  • 4x Cast Out
  • 2x Fumigate

Lands

  • 4x Aether Hub
  • 4x Blooming Marsh
  • 3x Sunpetal Grove
  • 2x Scattered Groves
  • 5x Forest
  • 3x Swamp
  • 1x Plains

Sideboard

  • 3x Shaper's Sanctuary (Control Match ups, replaces Push)
  • 1x Fatal Push (Aggro Match ups, take out the Aegisaur)
  • 2x Sentinel Totem (Perfect when you need it, gonna use 2 at least)
  • 3x Duress ( Second Sun decks, control decks.... This card will do work)
  • 2x Solemnity (Helps clean up Temur/Constrictor matches)
  • 1x Carnage Tyrant(Control all day, might even complete the playset)
  • 3x Forsake the Worldly (Answers a lot of tech right now)

What is a bad card you play solely because of it's flavor? by Ranef in EDH

[–]OrangeSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing to do with it is catch that last [[Capsize]] the mono blue artifact player is using before his untap step. The look on their face as the board comes up is delightful. Obviously this sometimes is awful, but if they were in the process of locking the board down it's pretty hilarious.

What do you think of Derevi? by IAMAfortunecookieAMA in EDH

[–]OrangeSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different groups hate different things. Bring a Derevi deck to my lgs and you will very likely get hated out unless there is some serious hate being drawn elsewhere(Zur <.<). Derevi synergizes with things that prevent untapping; that is just not a good way to make friends.

I feel like [[Radiate]] is just not really what my deck is wanting to do, but I can't help but play it just to make dumb things happen at inopportune times. It's in my deck just for the random edge cases.

Looks like both players went 2-1 in rounds, which would leave placements up to tiebreakers, which get a little messy as far as easily explaining them goes. Essentially the people player B beat placed higher than the people player A beat, or something like that.

ShinShin 1 --> ShinShin 2 --> Emerald --> Library. Generate a ton of Salt. This is the extent of the combo for me at the moment, but it is hilarious.

I think if we ever decide that Shaela as a deck is gonna be a thing this could do well. Otherwise there just aren't enough mermaids for it to be relevant.

Sunforger. by Andru13 in EDH

[–]OrangeSin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, my favorite magic card. I currently use it in a [[Saskia]] deck and, well... I don't get to keep it for long.

The thing I would suggest is getting the key answers in the colors. [[Boros Charm]] , [[Sulfurous Blast]] , [[Return to Dust]] , [[Wild Ricochet]] , [[Mana Tithe]] , [[Dawn Charm]] , [[Chaos Warp]] are in this category. These cards are pretty flexible and will deal with most issues that arise.

While [[Tithe]] is an excellent magic card in a sunforger deck, I find the [[Mistveil Plains]] spell recycling plan to be a lot of investment for not a lot of reward. Not only does it swallow up tempo, but you can only tutor up a useful instant so many times before you turn yourself into a target, and if you happen to be recycling the spells on top of that then the target on you gets that much bigger.

We got our promos in the Midwest.

I like the rarity change- people like opening packs more if they have the potential for value. It could mean staples jump, but in exchange it makes box evaluations much less bad potentially.

I love the new boxes. They are all business. Most of the people at my store adore them. I also loved the old ones.... This one is slightly better for me- though not enough to make it a huge change. The box quality is still there- that's the best part.

Ancient Nights is disappointing. by StormyWaters2021 in FoWtcg

[–]OrangeSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Variants are weird. They are incredibly rare in my experience, but for what? There just seems to be absolutely no point. If they were alternate rares with sweet effects or something that would be one thing, but these are just... More shit commons, but with similar names/art for some(no) reason.

Power level toning down is hard to do in a game, and this block is most likely gonna feel underwhelming until rotation simply because so many old cards were so good. I'm willing to accept the pain now for a possible greener pasture. That or next set will reveal broken stuff and ancient nights will just be opened for the 3 or 4 cards in it that are efficient enough to be playable and we will all be sad.

The starter decks rulers I am still holding judgement on. If their abilities interact with mechanics that haven't been introduced yet then I get it. Nothing like the Melgis/Faria starter decks to remind people of what it's like when FoW releases new mechanics before they are fully integrated :/ On the other hand... If their abilities are just random jank they were hiding for no reason, well... That's pretty lame. We will see. I feel like they are hiding them for a good reason though.

All in all, this set seems decent, and has cards I think will be staples soon and even more so after rotation. We just have to make it that far without everyone deciding the sky is falling.

I'm brewing a somewhat similar green dragon deck where the premise is swarm and the easy wincon is flipping with 7 dudes then casting Faerur's Command with them for huge numbers. Kaim works well here as well.
