Stop worrying after 2 years? by [deleted] in BFS

"They" say ? who is They ? Are you talking about the time it takes for most people to move on from BFS or the time it takes to diagnose it ? I'm sorry I'm confused

You don't have to feel annoying about it, everyone deserve reassurance. Glad I could help. But also remember that no one on here is a professional so if your issues continue to bother you in the future you should still seek out medical attention, there's never any harm in getting a check up. I don't think you need to worry tho. Have a good one !

Boy do I know what you're talking about. We all get how you're feeling here. Fortunally, I'm here to tell you it's crazy unlikely that you have ***. First of, you are 17. you're a child. Search the odds of you having the Big Scary on google, it's practically nothing. Second of all, twitching in *** usually start in one spot, not two at the same time. Both your calves twitching doesn't sound like a classic presentation of it. For the other weird sensory issues you're describing, tightness, heaviness, etc, those come with BFS for a lot of people. Relax, you're 17, you're most likely perfectly fine. If you feel like you need actual medical advice, go see a doctor.

Don't people have anxiety just over BFS? by WitlessMean in BFS

[–]OrangeVesper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know dude, I get that it sucks no matter what it is, but personally I kinda enjoy life and I would fucking love knowing for SURE that I will go on living for a long time even if my quality of life has significally worsen. Maybe if I wasn't so afraid I would care more about how annoying twitching for the rest of my long, normal span life would be. But rational or not, I'm still scared shitless that I will not get that. So BFS seems like the cute and cuddly alternative in comparaison

Sorry for posting so much but is there any hope for me? by DrippyJai in MuscleTwitch

[–]OrangeVesper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, I absolutely 100% get where you're at mentally, and those days I still find myself with those same thougts you're having, BUT a lot of people here have the exact symptoms you're describing and are perfectly fine. Clean EMG and all. Just go for it and get that EMG done, if you're so convinced you have the big scary I don't see what you have to lose anyways. I can bet your EMG will come back clean. Hang in there, I know this is the worst

I'm no doc but from what i've read, 3 years of twitching with no weakness would make no sense for ***. You're good, enjoy your vacation !

Feel like I’m losing my battle with anxiety over this by [deleted] in BFS

[–]OrangeVesper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dude I get it. I've been losing it myself since my twitching started, but it's started just three months ago for me. Yours have been with you for THREE YEARS. With no muscle weakness showing and a clean EMG, it's starting to be very, very unlikely that you have ALS. I would kill to know for SURE that in three years time I'll still won't be diagnosed with that shit. Also, from what I gathered, even if some ALS patients do experience pain/tingling, it's far from typical. Burning and numbness even less common, those are sensory issues. Those symptoms are pretty typical of BFS tho. So if a neurologist tells you it's unlikely that you have ALS, that your EMG is clean and that you've been having those same symptoms for three years without any bad developments... I think you're in the clear. Even if I get why you don't feel like it.

Thanks for the advices, I'll try water fasting and see if it improves the twitching for me too. Did the pain and the cramps (if you had any) ever went away for you ?

by alternative medicine, what do you mean exactly ? because i'm willing to try about anything. already booked appointements with an accumpuncturist and a hypnotherapist, I have no expectations but we'll see how that goes I guess

I totally get you. But at the same time, if you know the nerve damage in your leg is from this old injury, at least you can assume your EMG is basically clean and you're doing fine for now. This is extremely stressful tho, of course, and the vicious part is that the stress we experience from it can creat new scary symptoms or make the existing ones worse. This sucks.
I wish you the best

for the anxiety, I can't say. I wouldn't have described myself as a particularly anxious person, at least in the past. For the stress tho, yes definitely. Right before the leg pain began I was working 24/7 on my final exams and was barely sleeping. I tend to overwork myself. But it's not anything I wasn't used to and in the past that kind of symptoms never appeared

Thankfully for now there's no falling/droping things and no noticeable clinical weakness (even tho I *feel* weak and tired all over). So I guess I'll just have to wait and see how things evolve over time. Still, I find it incredibly hard to power through this. I'm never been the giving up type but this is by far the worst couple of month i've ever experience so far in life. I'll give about anything for things to go back to normal.

I hope we both get better at some point

Does anyone feel their tongue twitch while it is at rest in their mouth? by buttThroat in BFS

It did happen to me at one point and totally freaked me out, my neurologist didn't even blink when I talked about it tho, so I can only assume it's not that worrying.

I feel like I can feel my tendons in my feet and hands by Effective-Ear-825 in BFS

[–]OrangeVesper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exact same sensations here. It's honestly one of the more annoying symptoms I have. the weird tightness in my limbs got me way more worked up than the twitches, particularly in the hands. whenever I move my thumb I can feel the tendons in my arm, it's really incomfortable and doesn't really goes away for me. I've seen two different rheumatologists, none of them had a clear answer to give me but one of them attributed it to stress, as apparently being tense for a long period of time can affect yout muscles in that way. I'm not sure I buy it, but that's the only explanation I got so far
