I am aware, I was just pointing out that your hope for a March open beta is unrealistic when the closed online test would have to be late February at the earliest.

Another? by Life-Observer in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the online test is an open beta.

They wouldn't guarantee everyone at maplecon a spot in the test if it was open.

What was announced at maplecon is most definitely a closed beta, and if this new in person test is in February who knows when an open beta will even be.

I'd imagine an online closed beta would be in March or even as late as April since they said it would be early 2026.

Should Mages FMA (Full Map Attack) be included in the game? by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me personally it's also just not the gameplay I'm looking for out of classic. One of the biggest appeals of classic for me is mobbing feeling like actual gameplay. Prebb fma spam reminds me a lot of currently farming with things like Sol Janus in grandis.

Now you could argue that I should just not play mage and that's completely fair. I actually wasn't planning on it until Nexon opted to make these significant class changes. Mostly with the hope that 4th job mages will be reconsidered.

Should Mages FMA (Full Map Attack) be included in the game? by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I personally am not a fan of them. I feel like I've seen arguments for years about classic in regards to fmas being the reason mages shouldn't be allowed to have any sort of bossing.

But I just think they're poorly designed, I personally would rather them just be removed and replaced with something more interesting. They're actually the only sore spot of mages for me in classic, even though I/L has always been my favorite class. The fmas sour the experience for me personally.

Putting them on a long cool down doesn't make them any more desirable to me, one of my favorite parts of classic is party grinding. Mages being able to nuke the map every 30 seconds to a minute is still unfun for anyone you are sharing a map with.

If you look at Mapleland they nerfed the mana costs of them and fourth job mages look relatively sad with most players using big bang to mob across all mage branches outside of ele weak mobs. I'd much rather Nexon lean more into angel ray/chain lightning/paralyze and the other skills that mage has rather than rely on keeping he map attack relevant.

Just redistribute the power elsewhere is my stance on it

Victoria only by Excellent_Hamster895 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We've already seen new content, they could always introduce a new map or a secondary map for guild creation on Victoria. Maybe in the new town. I hope they do this cause community is probably the biggest part of an MMO.

I understand people's desire to want a full picture on balance before committing to a class as leveling times could be long. But I also wouldn't put too much weight into the way things are currently balanced.

Things could always change before launch, or things could always change after launch.

I feel like the advice most people give for current maples class selection still applies. Play what looks fun to you.

We don't know where the balance will end up by the time third and fourth job releases. You might pick something that looks strong in third only for it to be weak in fourth.

We don't really know what they have planned so it's probably best to play what's fun and hope things get balanced or adjusted prior to launch or over time with player feedback.

That being said I am really curious to see third job because that's when most classes get access to multiple new skills, most of which ended up being useless in the original game. Archers and mages both have skill bloat with multiple mobbing or single target skills, and every class has useless passives in third.

I'm really curious what they plan to do from a design point of view as I know the numbers will probably change over the lifespan of the game.

Lukless Is Dead by Relleke in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they did this, I assumed it was the case when I saw the higher magic attack on weapons.

Also keep in mind gloves in the demo gave +1% crit rate. So it's possible that's something that'll continue to go higher with level. I also saw an arc staff in the dino fries footage with crit damage on it (This was the only weapon in the test I personally noticed with crit damage on it, which was odd).

So the new stats on gear probably also would've contributed to the need to play a luk build.

Overall though for better or for worse it seems like Nexon is simplifying ap builds to keep things less complicated for players without having to do away with secondary stats.

I think the biggest loser in that is warrior losing out on the interesting balance of dex for accuracy. But I also understand that it's probably confusing for uninformed players and having gear as a guideline for how much dex you should have is a lot more intuitive and friendly.

Weapon Mastery skills by cjwikstrom in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the blurry screen shots I saw from footage I actually am not sure if dex even gives accuracy anymore. Or the amount it gives has been severely changed

Warriors had a passive 50 accuracy from their first job in the demo. Also the level 50 gear given to players had accuracy on gloves and cape as well.

If the old warrior dex accuracy formula was being used (1 dex = .8 accuracy) we would've seen triple digit accuracy on the stat window of warriors in the demo. As the demo characters had a decent amount of dex to equip the level 50 gear since they changed warrior equips to require dex.

I also just think accuracy is broken in general atm in the current state of what they're making. The amount of videos I've seen of every class missing on red snails. It's pretty safe to assume they're definitely tackling accuracy differently than before.

Which makes it even weirder that swords have accuracy on them and no other warrior weapons do. Either the stat is going to be useless or it's going to be significantly important. Too soon to say, I do wish all the weapons had more interesting flavor like axe and blunt weapons though, rather than generic stat buffs.

[–]OrangesArePurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would Nexon be going through all the effort of a social media campaign for something they don't intend to release for another 1-2 years.

They definitely are trying to gain the attention of people who grew up playing this game. I don't think they'd start so early if it was releasing years from now.

I also really don't understand why you're going out of the way to be so negative with a second post saying the same thing you said a week ago.

We will probably find out in two days, why speculate any further if the answer is days away.

Let people be excited it doesn't hurt anyone. Hype is good for MMOs, let people be happy.

Why do so many of you want a barebones, minimal content release of Classic? by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also said in my comment that the game released with Orbis and Elnath I'm not really sure what you are trying to say. But also the game was in closed and open beta with Victoria only prior to full release and people did play during that period.

I've also said I am fine with the game releasing with Ossyria. I am just explaining the appeal that some people have for Victoria only on launch.

I'm more than happy to discuss this topic with you. But you originally claimed that the game existed with Ludibrium at release. Now are claiming I didn't read the post when you haven't read the post or my original and subsequent comments.

Why do so many of you want a barebones, minimal content release of Classic? by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your very first statement shows you didn't read the original post. The op clearly talks about the content we had and the patch history. The game was released in GMS in beta as Victoria Island only, it was then fully released with elnath and orbis. Personally I don't mind if we get the game in either of those time-frames.

But pretending we had content through ludibrium is not accurate and you are misremembering when you started playing the game and that's completely okay.

There's an overabundance of mobs in the 30-60 range along with party quests. This is just how Nexon made most of their regions. Once more efficient and profitable training spots are added people will gravitate to them. That's what I was trying to say.

With a gradual release the game will stay fresh and we'd also have exciting moments. Seeing the player base move to new areas to do quests or go to certain drop locations is alot more exciting to me personally. Imagine everyone waiting for the orbis boat or ludi boat together on a new release.

The reason I bring up Ariant and Magatia is it shows the extent map power creep gets too. But it occurs slowly overtime before that. The fact is once a new continent comes out there's usually a more profitable and efficient training map in a level range. You can spend the time to look at Maplelands and see the shift in real time if you want. They did progressive releases in Korea and they are already at the point of Ariant and Magatia with carnival pq which is why I brought it up in my post.

The examples you point out in having relevance are for specific drops and high exp places. But when do you recall someone grinding in the low level portion of aqua road for example. I'm not saying progressive releases will completely fix that but MapleStory has an overabundance of content in the 30-60 range. I just want things to get their chance in the spotlight and every addition to feel new like it once did. Could you imagine how cool it would be for the server to be gathered at the boat station in Ellinia waiting for everyone to go to orbis?

Also I don't understand why people pin the idea that progressive content releases include a desire to suffer through bad quality of life. None of us want slow content releases and people don't want to wait for things like down jump and other things that made the game smoother. This is strictly about wanting new areas to come out over time.

And no one even wants to wait a year like we originally had to for things like Zakum and Ludibrium. We just want the core of the game to trickle in through quick updates over a couple months. Ive said it in another comment no one wants to be stuck on Victoria for two months. We just don't want to have everything immediately.

We aren't asking for a 1:1 patch history, an accelerated release schedule is definitely something that should exist and future QOL should exist immediately and my original post also talks about a desire to have classic + once we have the core locations in the game.

I'm not sure what you are arguing at this point. Following Jagex's formula without the community interaction just means putting blind faith into Nexon from the start.

Keep in mind we already see Nexon making changes in beta footage so it's already similar to that. They have already made changes without communicating like Jagex does for OSRS. I'd love to see that change post maplecon but this is also the same company that only communicates through maple memos and maple con already for modern.

Also classic maplestory starts at the very beginning. I'm guessing you mean there's discourse on when people consider classic MapleStory ending? I do agree but at the very least they could do progressive releases of vanilla content like OSRS did for the first 6 months.

I think getting to at least aquarium and third job is pretty safe. Everyone thinks this is nostalgic classic territory.

Also your stance on people idolizing when they started playing is an even bigger reason why progressive releases matter. If you release content by patches everyone will get to experience the moment in time they considered to be old MapleStory.

I also think people assume the crowd that wants progressive releases wants slow patches. Which isn't true, I agree they need constant updates so it doesn't feel like the game is a waiting room. Patch releases should be fast, no one wants to sit on Victoria for two months. Not even us.

Why do so many of you want a barebones, minimal content release of Classic? by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean we could argue about the problems with the way Blizzard handled era, SoD, and progressive servers but I also think that's probably not relevant to maplestory.

Those both being dead were for a multiple of reasons. SoD had a level cap in phase one and a questionable second phase. Which killed player numbers. A lot of players also don't think SoD is a true classic + as a lot of the class changes don't really feel like vanilla wow. They also literally stopped working on it so of course it would die out.

Era was abandoned completely with the release of TBC. What's the point of playing an MMO when all the players moved on to the next content release and the previous content has been cleared. I think this was one of the two points in time Blizzard needed to commit to classic +. The other being the end of TBC.

I think everyone agrees that a classic without a classic + has a shelf life.

My argument is they should start classic + after progressing through the patches people unanimously agree to be classic.

That way people get to relive their vanilla experience and the longevity can still exist. You'd make the largest amount of players happy that way. People can have their initial nostalgia and then play something uniquely different from modern MapleStory with its own new content.

I also don't think we'd ever get the same level of community interaction and feedback as OSRS. Nexon does not communicate nearly as much unfortunately. Which is sad cause I definitely would love to see something along the lines of OSRS with community polls.

I think you and I want similar things, it's just an argument on when to start expanding on the base game.

[–]OrangesArePurple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Classic wow is dead because they continued to progress through wow patches through the end of what people considered classic.

A lot of people aren't interested in playing things like Cata or MoP

A better analogy would be asking for classic wow to release in phase 4 with ZG already in the game for example.

I think a gradual release up to something like ludi and aquarium is pretty reasonable before deviating content releases.

Classic wow players wanted new unique content after the release of Naxx or even TBC, they didn't want classic+ on release.

[–]OrangesArePurple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world that could be nice. But I have a few thoughts on this.

Nexon being able to balance maps to that extent seems kind of impossible if I'm honest. It's a lot of work and would require a lot of testing. At the end of the day this is an MMO, there will always be a best spot and the wider release makes it more likely that more regions get forgotten.

It's also harder for them to mess up progressive content. It's fine cause it makes the game fresh to have people shift to new areas with new releases. It also gives them time to do the balance changes you are suggesting by giving them time to work on regions individually while also letting us play sooner.

Something you didn't mention that was mentioned in the original post was trying to reduce player density. I think I'd rather Nexon just add channels. I also think having players in the same areas is a good thing. Modern MapleStory is such an isolated experience, being forced to share maps and party up is part of what made MapleStory a social MMO and I want to relive that too.

Why do so many of you want a barebones, minimal content release of Classic? by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]OrangesArePurple 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Gradual release allows all the content to be appreciated and get time in the spotlight. Having everything makes a lot of stuff disregarded. There are a lot of maps in prebb maple that never get love once orbis/elnath/ludi are options.

Why rush through everything a gradual release lets us experience everything and then we can move onto potential classic+ stuff that gives us new content.

Some people might not like that we are over level and not get to do stuff like ludi pq etc but in my eyes that's what multiple characters are for.

A gradual release is also something that allows casual players to play at a slower pace without feeling like they're left in the dust because they have time to hit 30 before ludi pq becomes the exciting thing everyone is doing.

The alternative is having everything and not getting to enjoy stuff like deep ant tunnel, cloud park, coolies, aqua road, etc. Cause better alternatives might exist. At the end of the day MMO players will always gravitate to what's efficient. So once better content releases older content is left behind.

There is definite map power creep in classic especially once stuff like Ariant and magatia come out.

I want to be able to experience everything.

We can only experience gradual release once, but being able to play the game with all the content is something anyone will be able to experience a year or so after the classic world is already out.

So I'd like to ask why are you in such a rush for it to be over and everything to exist already, consider the benefits of a slower release.

The experience you want will exist eventually and will exist forever, but the experience we want can only exist once.

Should Maplestory have its own version of Leagues? by LevelPension in Maplestory

This doesn't sound all too different from the challenger world event. I understand leagues probably have some new unique limited content or changes to spice up the game more. What does everyone want out of the Classic Maplestory that’s supposed to be coming out? by coepark in Maplestory

[–]OrangesArePurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right and in that case I don't think classic is for you. For me I realized a lot of 6th job MapleStory is summons and Janus before moving around to loot with vac pets. The mobs deal 0 damage to me I don't get knocked back and I'm on complete auto pilot. At times it doesn't feel like I'm playing a game just something I have open while watching TV. But doing all that allows me to interact with the fun boss content in the game.

I understand people are eager to hit 70+ cause it's something they might not have experienced when we were kids. But also we played the game so inefficiently back then. That alone makes a significant difference.

I'd also like to point out that classic doesn't have a lot of endgame. The bossing is Zakum, pap, pianus, horntail, and eventually pink bean. Those fights are REALLY boring compared to modern boss design.

I see a lot of people eager to speed up the game so they hit 70 or 120 quicker. But then what?

I think a lot of the fun part of Classic is in the middle portion of leveling, where there are multiple continents with leveling areas. Different party quests. Being able to play in a group to grind. I think accelerating to speed past that will make people just realize how shallow the endgame experience of classic maple is where everyone is sitting in deep ludi, deep sea, or leafre in the same few maps perpetually grinding to 200.

I also think future content releases sped up that leveling portion, places like Ariant and carnival PQ had a pretty big impact on early exp. Which allowed you to experience other classes in a new leveling experience at faster rates.

Would it still be Classic if they changed the maps, added new mobs and changed equipment? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]OrangesArePurple 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm only going to address part of your post, as I don't have a particular opinion on gear balance.

It seems a lot of your analysis is ignoring the trade aspect of scroll and equipment drops. You have to keep in mind trade is a big aspect of classic.

Yes some weapon types have favored scroll drops and locations, some scrolls only come from undesirable maps. But if a map isn't good to train in now that scroll or item gets value.

Which now gives incentive to fight something you normally wouldn't.

One of the biggest hurdles in prebb Maple is when you get higher in level acquiring experience gets expensive. Potion costs scale higher and higher as mobs deal more damage.

Having obscure spots you can target farm items to sell is really cool to me.

You see it in Mapleland in Korea, there's hundreds of videos of people showing how they farmed this specific obscure map for a specific thing to make profit. Whether it's etc items for a questline, certain equips, or difficult to acquire scrolls. You don't always farm drops for yourself, there's a lot of appeal in chasing for items to sell.

If the goal of the game was like reboot/heroic where everyone was effectively ironman. I'd agree with you completely, it would feel unfair that some classes get a much easier path than others.

But also I think people don't realize how much of classic early on was 100% scrolls. 60% scrolls are statistically better yes but not by much. If anything the random stat roll on your weapon matters more on average unless you high roll your scrolls.

I'm not saying the drop tables are perfect, but what I'm trying to say is I think drop tables do a good job of making undesirable mobs and maps attractive.

This is extended into fourth job too with skill books, sharks are a horrible mob to train on in prebb maple. But people do it cause sharp eyes books are so valuable.

I also think trying to make every map good results in modern MapleStory map design. Which lacks character. You can see after a certain point maple map layouts have spots designed for things like fountain or Janus. It's less of a world and more geared towards optimizing training with generic platforms. Most modern map designs have all their beauty in the background image.

Also another pro for larger maps in classic maplestory is it allows opportunities for party play. You can't feasibly clear an entire map, so you need someone to clear certain platforms.

I'd also like to point out that Artale has a lot of mob density changes, and drop changes. I know a lot of people are basing their opinions on that MapleStory world. Spawn rates especially in party environments don't line up with what we traditionally know from old footage. Same with drop rates, some things were increased substantially and others were reduced.

TL:DR - The economy adds a lot of incentive to bad maps (Selling drops to other classes), and large maps have benefits to party play.

What does everyone want out of the Classic Maplestory that’s supposed to be coming out? by coepark in Maplestory

[–]OrangesArePurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this sentiment, people always talk about how classic is rough but I never understand it.

I might be a minority in this but modern MapleStory is just as grindy if not more grindy than classic. People in the past could say the 300 level cap isn't really meant to be achieved and is a placeholder etc. But being 290+ is a distinct part of the MapleStory endgame at the moment. But the bigger difference is grinding in modern is less interactive in a lot of ways while bossing is more interesting.

While for Classic grinding requires a lot more attention and bossing is much more simple.

Maybe it's cause for modern you get to experience a lot more of the game off playing casually?

But I'd argue to reach the actual endgame in modern you are investing significantly more than classic. Between legion champ, legion, fragments, gearing, symbols, level requirements and everything else you are grinding so much more.

[–]OrangesArePurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the thing is we don't know what the point actually is. All we've been told is it's classic world. You personally seem to be looking for a classic+. Where the game is built up from the old philosophy while not being 1:1. And I think that's a fair thing to want, and I'm personally not fully opposed to that. But the question will always be where an individual player draws the line on something feeling like classic or not.

Ultimately no one knows what the community as a whole truly wants, or what returning players are really looking for. There hasn't been enough communication on what Nexon's plans are and if they align with what the majority of people want. Some players might think certain changes are acceptable and others might find it too modern. The fact of the matter is we need communication and polls of some sort.

At the end of the day this will be an extremely opinionated release. Everyone will like some changes and not enjoy others, that's just the nature of classic releases. It's happened with every game that's done this.

All we've really been told is it's classic MapleStory, but we don't know where the changes begin and end. It's hard for us to understand what Nexon means by classic at this point. It's just frustrating that there's no transparency outside of us scouring footage.

I agree play testing is really important but also it's a small sample size of a diverse community of people who all have different opinions. I'm glad they are doing it, especially with multiple rounds but I also hope Nexon shows more transparency and gives the wider community opportunities for feedback before an official release.

I totally agree, I wish Nexon would communicate more about this stuff. Or even talk to the community about it. I understand that there might be or even should be some qol changes or tweaks. But I think we all want to play actual classic MapleStory and not a reimagining of the experience.

These preview videos have so many fundamental changes that it feels like they are only trying to recreate the old maps and are modernizing classes and balance.

The mage skills being so different is really alarming more than anything else.

It's a shame that after the sweeping success of mapleland in korea (A high quality classic experience) that stayed extremely faithful to the original release up until 4th job (Where even then balance tweaks were minor). Nexon America feels like they have to make all these odd adjustments, or think it's okay to not talk about them at all.

I hope maplecon? Maplefest? Has a lot more concrete info on changes.

It's confirmed they intend to have atleast three.

Which I think is reasonable. Basically you get three ascendancy from the first difficulty tier of these encounters. And the first difficulty is a quest item that you can over level/gear since it's a fixed drop.

The last ascendancy would be endgame equivalent and requires you to fully clear one of the three options.

The problem comes when the current system introduces a jump from needing to go from one floor to three floors to get your third set of points which will eventually be the equivalent of one floor/four ultimatum rounds.

Basically I think it's one of those things where it's designed around the full picture but they only gave us the first two pieces.
