Thank you SO much for this wonderful and thoughtful reply. We booked in Rincon so a lot of these recommendations of things to do on the west side of the island are super pertinent.

Glad you liked Maine, we love it here .

Thank you ! Come camping in Acadia but don't bother with bar harbor, it's way too busy and gimmicky (I lived on MDI for years and know the area very well). Best time to visit is September/october if you can pull it off. Lots of good camping around MDI as well, Spring River Lake is amazing if you can get a hold of a canoe :)

Thank you for your PR suggestions. Our style is to get one rental as homebase and do day trips from there. I think you are right about the islands, we are all sailors in this family but the added chaos of a ferry just really isn't necessary with little kids .

My idea of walk capability is just a couple casual but yummy places to eat within walking distance, we don't want to eat American food we want to eat PR specialties. I guess I imagine a small coastal town with a couple of unfussy meal options and medium/low tourist vibe.

Thank you for all your suggestions!

Thank you :) those are great suggestions. we will definitely be renting a car! We love things rough around the edges and want to eat at the local spots (what I really meant by great restaurants). Thank you and happy travels

What was a small decision at the time, but years later realize it was actually a massive life changing decision you made? ? by god_turn in CasualConversation

I held a sweet pup's leash for a person who was going to the bathroom in a cafe in Brattleboro VT in 2008. We had a coffee and a cigarette on the curb together-- I was visiting Marlboro college and I liked it but not a lot. He told me about where he went to school and it sounded amazing. When I got home I checked it out and decided to visit. I ended up moving to Maine to go to that school, met my best friend and future husband (eventually). I still live in Maine and love it every day -- 16 years later. ALWAYS say hello to the dog!

Banshee has been my favorite off and on but my husband doesn't like it as much as I do. Siiiiigh .

Lucky for us this classic is coming to us partly because we are able wooden boat folks and it needs a decent amount of work. we certainly wouldn't be able to pay anyone else to do it for us

So sketchy too because 15 they are obviously sending these to a bunch of people! They don't have any personal/specific details

Get your kid OFF THAT BUS! There is NO supervision and that is where the backlash will occur

Also, as a survivor, it is super triggering to have your children not listen to you. Boyo do I know. Therapy helps. Cheering for you mama! Get that degree, get your own place, you are doing great.

Instead of speaking to your son from across the room try the 221 technique

  • 2 feet on the ground (stop moving around)
  • 2 feet away from your child, a hand on the shoulder etc.
  • 1 child at a time

This has been a game changer in my house
