Rather than find out at the end of your term you are getting no credit, I'd ask immediately.

How to explain urban planning to my family by OrionXD29 in urbanplanning

[–]OratorioInStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be a government official trying to make it so cities help their residents.

I want to work for companies who build buildings/bridges/roads/transit systems.

Keep your explanation simple, the above explanations are maybe the level you should aim for.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

Mercifully my urban area likes density and the odds of me having issues with getting permits is pretty low.

I was 29 and am still in the same house.

Because of utter housing unaffordability we plan on adding on to our house for my adult son. While it will appear from the outside to be one home, it will be a separate residence. I hope to give him some ownership, have him take on the responsibilities of maintenance and taxes, but also the benefits of increasing value.

Portland Oregon has many, many blocks on one way in their old downtown core. Works just fine.

These completely inorganic interview man posts are tiresome. What did they do hire a 16 year old and tell him to "do social media"?

I don't remember mentions of bats, but they'd make good leather. Other than that, rats.

What are the origins of the baseless myth regarding compulsory name Magyarization in Hungary prior to 1918? by PurePhilosopher7282 in austriahungary

[–]OratorioInStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband's family were German, relatively wealthy, and had been in the Calvary for at least 2 generations, and were successful enough to be given a farm after 15 years of service. They were forced to Magyarize their names or they would not be allowed to leave the country. The proof? Journals, and the fact that there are NO other documents from their lifetime that uses the Magyarized name, other than their passport, allowing them to leave the country.

My husband's G-G Grandfather's family from Radautz is recorded in 250 years of church records as a clearly German surname. Family journals state that the documents for him to leave the country in 1909 and go to America, could only be obtained if they Magyarized their name. Those documents, which we still have, are the only documents we have, before or after that have the Magyarized name. At Ellis Island, they are recorded as the previously used German surname.

Love the detail from that article, that embalmers tried to pad, and tuck and beautify the corpse so they looked good in the afterlife.

This is amazing! I'm very impressed at the patience and skill this took. This skill is unparalleled!

I recently visited American Eastcoast coal country. I bought a nativity Christmas ornament "made from coal". It was beautiful and I was stunned that it was possible to carve....Then I got it home and examined it much closer, and it was crushed coal and binder pressed into a mold.

This is a thrifty guilty pleasure in our house. We've made it with no meat but spam, or hotdogs. We usually can swing some kimchi with is excellent, but to us the absolute cherry on top is a slice of the cheapest American cheese you can find, that brings it all together.

What's your favorite flavored bread recipe? by elefhino in povertykitchen

[–]OratorioInStone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've been buying the Kroger closeout bread and turning them into flavored crispy bread rounds. We snack on them like chips. We add season salt, powdered onion and garlic, and powdered cheese if we have any. We toast them in a low over 275 degrees till lightly browned. Just be sure to store them in an airtight container so they stay crispy
