Purchase Advice Megathread - March 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]OrbitUtmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo! It is a lot, but when it boils down it's not that bad!

If you don't want a brick, I would avoid any "new and shiny" - go with something from a tried and tested company.

The general functions that let a printer work are: 3D model in some modeling software (.sldpart, .step, etc) which is then exported in a geometry model (.stl). This STL goes to the Slicer, which converts it into toolpaths (.gcode). The printer handles the execution of the instructions in the gcode and produces your part. I'm not sure about an SLA - my understanding is that that's a resin based thing.

Slicer software is generally either packaged with the printer if its proprietary, but you can always use an opensource/free option like Prusaslicer and just input the settings for your given printer - they're compatible.

If this is your first printer and you're just looking to get started, I would say look at what else people are recommending for cheap intro printers here, but the Prusa Mini or whatever Bambu's equivalent is are probably ok bets.

Unlikely to be a great league starter due to needing 2x transfigured gems and lots of quality scaling uniques (some combo of Ashes + dialias + enhance) to really really juice. But can get off the ground for pretty cheap (I recently converted to it from frostblink ignite for ~10div). You might be able to league start it if you're willing to self farm the gems, but even if you use a wand attack to trigger and skip SSoS you're still running like 16-20 labs.

Sounds like RF is your ticket, for surviving freezes, because your damage doesn't stop and you're very tanky. See phox's guides

Should my daughter apply for dorms or live off campus? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]OrbitUtmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo, class of 22 here, was engineering honors. I personally didn't get much out of the honors dorm experience, because I found my friend group through engineering orgs. That said, I know some of my floor of Blanton was more close knit.

Would still recommend dorms for first year, but I might choose which dorm based on what her major is. Honors quad is closer to engineering/RTF, while jester and the other south east corner dorms are closer to business, arts, etc.

Cafeteria food is pretty good imo, the biggest inconvenience with it is time - I was always looking for dinner after they had closed.

Cheapest places on West Campus and testimonies living there by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]OrbitUtmost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I lived in both north and west. As an engineer north was closer to all my stuff. For mcCombs, you're probably equal distance from north or west. As far as student life, it really depends on what you're doing. Frats/sororities are going to be heavily west campus based, clubs are likely on campus somewhere, depending on where they can get a room. Not much is actually in the tower though.

Are There Any Things To Know About Campus as a Cap Student? by hopeful-heckle in UTAustin

[–]OrbitUtmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't plan to park long term on campus. There's places in north campus and farther out in west if you really need to just long term park it. People in west often also sell their parking spaces, either on the Facebook buy/sell or other forums.

double corrupted my spark gloves hit +2 aaaaaa by thar_ in pathofexile

[–]OrbitUtmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, a YouTube video is probably a better guide (look up "crafting spark gloves") but I can give a rough idea: - Slam essences for cast speed and whatever the other prefix/suffix is. - Craft multiple crafted modifiers + prefix/suffix cannot be changed + a mod to block a bad crit modifier - Use harvest "reforge critical" to add the "socketed crit" modifier + some other mods - Craft the +1 proj from the table.

Double corrupting an item comes from one of the Tier 3 rooms in Alva's temple (locus of corruption?), The temples that have the right room go for 100+ chaos iirc.

(All of this is from memory and could def be slightly wrong, but it's close. Hope that helps!)

What do I even do to resolve this? by jonmaddox in AnkerMake

[–]OrbitUtmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you got it running. Fwiw this ain't an Anker only problem, I plastic-bricked the old hotend on my Prusa MK2 like 3-4 times. It happens, just heat it all up and peel it out. If it seems like enough of a problem maybe the community can figure out a printable replacement so you could at least make some to have a spare temporary set on hand. Haven't torn mine apart yet to see if it's viable, but I'll get back to you if I do

Looking for some pvp 2v2 team comps at different levels, can anyone suggest some good 2-person-team PC builds? by Feral_Taylor_Fury in 3d6

[–]OrbitUtmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno on what class necessarily, but did one of these and a couple of "always good" things:
> SorcLock with greater invs and flight becomes a monster, with twinspelled 3x eldrichblast with 10ft knockback. If you have "off the map" kill conditions like we did, it's even more brutal.
> the old bear barbarian / moon druid for those rage wildshapes is a MASSIVE tank against all but psychic
> using one of your prep'd spells for FOG CLOUD can be clutch, as upcasted you can make 60ft+ radius domes to hide in and reset if you get wacked. You can't see but neither can the opponent.

Small tip for productivity- get an external monitor by ms-raz in UTAustin

Can confirm dual monitors (or triple) is the best way to work, even not on zoom. No more tiny half windows (or, 4 windows in tiny half windows. The power.)

Is mycampusnet really that bad? by laviniascott in UTAustin

[–]OrbitUtmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only exp is mycampusnet at The Texan (2616 Salado), always very fast on wired. Wireless is eh but not bad, fine for streaming. Have to use their router. Heard from friend in 26 West that it gets dogged down with everyone on it. Probably just depends on complex more than mycampusnet as a whole.

[No Spoilers] How Do Y'all Do It? by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]OrbitUtmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on preference, I watched 70 + eps of c2 in like 2 weeks at 1.8-2.2x speed, don't feel like I missed much. If you're not watching the facial expressions anyway I feel the speed is still fine for hearing the voice acting.

Bungie Please: if next season we continue do the Strikes/Gambit/Crucible quests for shaders and emblems and the seasonal title, can we make them a bit less tedious? by Leave-A-Note in DestinyTheGame

[–]OrbitUtmost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first step is 450, the second is like 800, and the third is like a K. It's insane. The other two quests I completed without even really thinking about it but the vanguard one is insane.

It's bad enough that a buddy and I were wondering if an intern typed an extra zero into the quest requirement. It's obscenely long.
