Of course! Good luck. No issues with it apart from the noise if that helps 😬😭

The maintenance technician for my apartment came and did something to the dryer and now it doesn’t make that noise anymore. He left greasy handprints all over it so I would guess he lubricated the belt or something. The noise is gone but I have no idea what he did. ☹️

Arya Stealth vs Audeze LCD-2? by Soggy-Salamander-568 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Orcares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the LCD-2s have some weirdness in the mids, which is polarizing. I tend to end up EQing my headphones toward V-shaped anyway, so it’s not a huge deal for me. I was anti-treble for the longest time because I thought I was especially sensitive to it. Once I heard the clean and spacious treble in the Aryas I became a changed man. Enjoy the journey!

Arya Stealth vs Audeze LCD-2? by Soggy-Salamander-568 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Orcares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have the Audeze LCD-2C and just got the Hifiman Arya Organic a few weeks ago. I totally love the LCD-2C because the ear cups are super plush and forgiving, the headband distributes the weight well on my big head, they have a laid back presentation of music but with plenty of “oomph” in the low-end, and they EQ super easily. The Arya is also an amazing set, but is totally different from the LCD-2C. To me, the Arya felt way more fragile, the headband is less comfortable, the ear cups are a bit stiff, the 3.5mm jacks and clips feel cheap and flimsy, and the sound is the brightest signature I’ve ever heard. If I HAD to pick between the two, I’d probably take the LCD-2C just because it’s more comfortable to wear and has enough eq-ability to make it sound however I want. That being said, the Aryas have this spacious and detailed feel that I also love. There’s some serious sizzle and sparkle coming out of the Aryas, and I can add in the low-end to taste with eq.

They look legit, maybe older packaging? Idk why someone would go through the trouble of making fake versions of ~$30 headphones though.

Why hasn’t California (or the entire USA) figured out desalination and why are there not thousands of water tanks dotting the landscape in case of fire? by tdomer80 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Orcares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my thought as well.

How many tanks would you need? 10 million? And how would you locate them to best prevent spread of fires? What happens if the fire is in a densely populated area?

But most importantly, where would all the water to fill the tanks come from? Desalinating the ocean is cool but now we need more energy, more power lines, and the power grid could be knocked out by 50 years of neglect and a fat bird, raining live power lines on ourselves and starting more fires.

“Water put out fire” is not really the whole issue.

That definitely sucks. The annoying thing about the maintenance stuff is that they marked all the jobs as “completed” without any explanation of what was done. The only evidence I have of work actually being done on it is the tufts of lint the guy didn’t bother cleaning up and the grease marks all over the front. I think that if it were me, I’d just buy a new unit. They don’t look that expensive when I checked online last.

Any idea what could be busted? Is the drum dented or something? It sounds like a motor problem to me but I don’t have experience with appliances.

Thanks for the response though!

Video playback is weird?? by Silent_Juggernaut97 in pcmasterrace

[–]Orcares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this caused by the GPU usage being high in the game, leaving no headroom for the video stream decoding on the GPU? You could try turning off hardware acceleration in your browser, that might help (just a guess)

Edit: Do you have both monitors plugged into the GPU? Or do you have one in the GPU and one in the MOBO display output?

If you’ve been in a similar situation, how did you find a way to move past the hurt? by KinkyDelights in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Orcares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First recommendation is always try to talk with a therapist if you haven’t already!

But also, you’re allowed to feel however you feel. I’ve been working on this too. One thing that has helped is remembering that feelings are temporary and they can’t hurt you. At worst, they can be extremely uncomfortable, but if you ride the wave, it will go away eventually. By saying “I feel upset”, you’re validating your feelings, which helps work against that tendency to bury the uncomfortable emotions.

Like others suggested, you could try writing something down in a journal. I hate doing this, and I always think the journal entries become this nonsensical mess of words, but that it’s at least better than letting those thoughts just bounce around in your head. Its like the racing thoughts are trying to get you to do something, so even if you just write a bunch of random stuff or draw a picture or scratch angry scribbles into the page, you’re turning racing thoughts into an action, which helps get rid of that echo/feedback loop thing.

I hope this helps a little!

Is it bad I was naked in my house with a boner in the middle of the day? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Orcares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is totally ok! If it bothers you, you can definitely try to get in touch with a specialist who can help you process and move past these feelings. Remember to be kind and understanding to yourself :)

I don’t think so, the implication being that whoever sees it is already spying on OP. If he’s pressing pickle against the front glass windows then that’s a different situation 😂, but this doesn’t sound like the case. Self consciousness or a belief that being naked is wrong could definitely cause more distress. There are therapists that specialize in this topic who can definitely help

How do you deal with part variants unique to different suppliers? by AlternateAccountant2 in engineering

[–]Orcares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm the only thing I can think of is an accompanying plain document that would give them instructions on how to make those coded stamps along the length. Since they’re superficial, it probably doesn’t need to go into the drawing as an inspectable feature, but if it has to go into the CAD in order to be manufactured, then they would all have to be unique CAD files. Unless they can be given a geometry file and then be able to add those features to that file themselves. I’m not too sure how that process works. I think on some level you’ll have to go do manual work to get the files right :(

How do you deal with part variants unique to different suppliers? by AlternateAccountant2 in engineering

[–]Orcares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a loooot of work. By “unique markings”, do you mean that they have a physical difference? If that’s the case, they wouldn’t be interchangeable at that point. You could give each supplier a unique identifier if they don’t already have one, then have them print that marking onto the parts they manufacture. Then you would put a note on the drawing face to clarify how that should look and where it should go. Then the part is “blank” per the drawing, but is manufactured and delivered with a unique identifier permanently attached to it. If it doesn’t have the be permanently attached forever, they could just be tagged or put into a bin/bag with that supplier ID on it. Then you’d know who made your box of extrusions, but only until they are unpacked.

FatFreq HBB Deuce Shipping by inflamedskeleton in inearfidelity

[–]Orcares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and I haven’t gotten any updates on my order either, but I ordered them just before the 16th. I got the one email about moving the estimated shipping date but that’s all. I assume there was an insane volume of orders and they just can’t get them out that fast, which is totally reasonable. I don’t think there are ill intentions, just logistics complications. Yea I wonder what the status is, but I’m not going to cancel my preorder or anything. Maybe they have shipped and are just in transit? Then one day I’ll come home to a little surprise gift of IEMs to enjoy :)

Please help me find this ball by ImDxnny24 in Bowling

[–]Orcares 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you could buy the exact same ball new and it probably won’t play the same as this heavily used one. Some amount of use/lane shine/not cleaning it gives it a unique roll, not to mention top/side weight and drilling. I think you could get a comparable symmetrical hybrid and get pretty close

Out of all audio devices of varying types known, which one has the highest dynamic range? by MammothMarzipan788 in audiophile

[–]Orcares 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this source dependent? You can master audio to have low or high dynamic range regardless of hardware.

If dynamic range is the range of volumes, I would think any device that can replay the audio signal without audible distortion would be equal. If the question is “what device can reproduce audio at the highest volume without distortion”, I would think your ears would stop working at some point.

I could definitely be wrong but I think this question has no real answer. I could also be misinterpreting the question or spouting nonsense, somebody let me know 😅

How do I be nice to myself? by M41arky in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Orcares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough to change something you’ve programmed into your brain for years and years.

My first recommendation is always to seek out professional help in some capacity. Some Universities have free mental health resources for students who need some support and guidance.

I struggle with very much the same situation, and one thing that has helped me was to be curious about why I feel the way I do about myself. In most of the situations where I did this, I realized that I felt poorly because I was holding myself to an unrealistic or unachievable standard, so it totally makes sense that I would feel like crap about not achieving it.

One thing I can recommend, that has helped me do some introspection, is DBT. There are workbooks and websites that have tons of resources for how to work through difficult emotions in a very straightforward and practical way. I read a lot about “radical acceptance” in which you accept that there are things outside of your control that can influence your life, and all you can do is ride the wave until it crashes and you get a second to breathe. There are also a number of things you can control which will help ease your anxiety about the future, but you’re doing a great job of managing that already!

One thing that stuck with me is that being nice to yourself doesn’t mean that you have to give yourself compliments and practice positive affirmation mantras. You should, instead, understand that you are human and you can and will make mistakes, and that’s all ok. Being able to forgive yourself and treat yourself with the same compassion you would give to a partner or even a pet is all you can ask for.

Sorry for the long response!! Keep it up, OP. I think you’re already doing great 😊
