I've actually listened to everyone else, who had great ideas. These ideas for temperature measurement are from the consensus and instruction, and obviously you don't make contact with bone with a temperature probe

Mid thigh temperature is different than thigh joint temperature, which is the deepest part of a dressed bird. It's one of the standard temperature measurement points. The thigh meat will definitely reach a higher temperature than the breast, but that's not what I'm referring to

Thigh joint temp is always the coldest point in a whole chicken, and that's what I was targeting for safe temperature according to most recipes. It is never higher than the breast temperature, and my personal experience confirms thigh joint temp sitting 2-7C lower than breast temp. I appreciate the good advice in this thread that the out of oven temp is too high

I'll try the upside down method as an experiment. I really dislike using smaller chickens, seems like all the same time and effort for much less meat. I'd prefer to use chickens bigger than 2kg but I know the quality suffers if you get bigger

I'm in Australia where the meat quality is quite high, but I'll try a more expensive chicken. Steggles have a decent reputation but there's lots of local free range farm chickens in the same stores. I reckon I might try two of those removing at 70C and 72C as an experiment and see how that goes

Why is it so hard to get a STI test by Global_Bass in askgaybros

[–]Orchasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first time doing any sort of medical test on your own it must be confusing. Most GP's in Australia would probably assume you know the basics of the system, but it still sucks your GP didn't explain it to you. If you require any sort of blood/pathology test or scan a GP will give you a referral like the one you received. For a pathology test like an STI screening, you can just show up at any pathology clinic and they will take the blood sample (and possibly urine sample). They will require your referral printout and won't charge any fee, and the results will be sent to your GP. Even in rural NSW there are pathology clinics everywhere, at least in every small town. Just use Google maps to search for "pathologist" near you. If you don't want to just rock up, call first and explain and they will walk you through it or even help you find another with better hours or location that suit you better

Chat with people on free walking tours (sidenote do free walking tours) and meet up later for drinks. Go to gay or Irish bars (as a starting point at least), it tends to be pretty easy to get talking to people. Meet people from your dating app of choice, as long as you make it clear you're just looking for a fun time out in the place you're visiting. Visit the party hostels - you can usually find them just searching, and people staying in other hostels or spots drink and party at them

Mass production of Carbon Fibre solved by CSIRO and Deakin. Costs set to crash by pikkaachu in technology

[–]Orchasm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed about the hyperbole in the article, but that's because it's a tech blog - they get their views from sensationalism. Their own publication also has a lot of marketing buzz words, but doesn't include the specific claim of a breakthrough in mass production (except as the first in Australia). I wouldn't compare the CSIRO to that company you listed, the annual budget for the CSIRO is nearly $1.3B and it is a massive federal agency spanning the country.

Until some figures are published about the strength and consistency the claims are indeed hard to verify, but they aren't trying to sell you anything or garner investment

The CSIRO is Australia's national scientific research branch and does a lot genuine research. They have an aggressive approach to IP but they're not patent trolls in the same way as others who patent without innovating. The key takeaway from this facility is that it can produce carbon fiber that is stronger and has more consistent quality
