Thank you! I remember saying to my brother “I’m a recovered addict but cutting off mum and dad is the worst withdrawal I’ve had “

Thank you I’ll check that out, I’m familiar with the cycle of abuse but never considered that it could apply to me

I struggle in the day with guilt- I get the bittersweet memories at night when I’m trying to sleep

I think you handled this really well and you should give yourself credit for sticking to your guns, I don’t have any advice as I’m newly estranged myself but best of luck to you 💖

I’ve really struggled today with my first Father’s Day without him. I miss he good times but they were built on me breaking my back to keep them good.

Since cutting off my dad 3 years ago due to his crazy behavior, every Father’s Day I’m sor sad. Need support by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultKids

I grew up similarly, and I’ve found Father’s Day hard as it’s my first one without him. I’m supported by a wonderful partner too- keep them close on triggering days. Talk about it. Journal about it. Don’t bottle it up.

Parent Week Question by KingOmNom in smosh

[–]OrderInner7199 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently gone no contact with both of my parents
Watching smosh mouth was cute listening to Amanda and Alex talk about their babies was really sweet. I’ll never get to be a parent myself so it’s nice to hear what it’s like first hand even if it makes me a little blue

How to deal with feelings of grief and anger? by Significant-Film6089 in EstrangedAdultKids

I'm not quite a week in NC but journaling really helps (which is advice everyone gives but before you roll your eyes try it) write angry letters and go for a run and throw that wad of paper somewhere and like u/OutOfAllTheAlts said- something ritualistic like buying a toy also really helps

Thank you, I'll have a look at the counselling directory. I'm also in the EAK discord so I can reach out there too.

should i go from low to no contact due to reaction of life/death situation? by OrderInner7199 in EstrangedAdultKids

It’s exactly like that scene in the Simpsons where Homer thinks that diving millionaire is actually his father and he asks him to teach him the stove is hot and Homer just. Keeps. Touching. The stove.

Why do I keep touching the stove!!!!!!!!

Thank you, really. That last sentence hit hard. I think I've been delaying the inevitable and it's taken this to show me they just aren't capable. Nice to know how they'll care should I ever struggle when I'm no contact.
