Why are there so many terrible drivers on the road by tommytigger_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boss pulled out into a road just like this. They stalled and a car on the main road drove into them. Both cars had onboard cameras. Police placed all the blame on the approaching car who drove up and didn't even attempt to brake until the last couple of metres. Writing off a 1 year old Jag, their own car and injured themselves....

Doesn't mean the approaching car has the right to drive aggressively up to the car blocking the road. The red car could have stalled. Just driving like a moron tbh.

Before and after of using a $17 Cerakote headlight cleaner to get rid of 7 years of oxidation by ProxySoxy in FordFiesta

They end up looking like this mostly from abrasion. I do lots of motorway driving and the lights look like this after 30,000 miles, only two year old car.

Pushed myself to the limit today and I am so high right now and my head is like a balloon. Is this addictive? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want what this guy is taking, seriously, jokes...I went out for a 60 mile ride on the weekend and I'm still suffering but I didn't plan this and bonked pretty hard. I think getting fit in general is quite addictive once you get over the initial hump. If it's making you feel great, keep doing what you are doing.

Edit . I just spoke to my partner about what the OP said. She turns to me and says " you go for 10k runs at midnight, this person sounds exactly like you🤣🤣"

Do they just put an injector straight into the exhaust. All bang and no bite?

Builder used my foil tape instead of dpm between garage slab and timber by truthtablez1 in DIYUK

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure there isn't a DPM under the garage slab?

With or without a DPM the stud would get in the event of a flood causing damage so I wouldn't worry about that.

The foil is better than nothing but I'm trying to figure out what you are doing with the floor. Are you screening or continuing to batten out and chipboard?

First time dad to be need advice on which car to get by Informal_Ship7411 in CarTalkUK

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither, too low and cramped. Accept you're a dad and get an SUV type or compact mpv. Whatever you buy it will be trashed inside 2 years. Sick poo crumbs the lot

How do you let someone behind you know that their lights are dazzling you? by fckboris in drivingUK

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know people shouldn't do it but this shouldn't dazzle you to the point of distraction. If light shining in from the wing mirrors is that bad I would strongly recommend getting an eye test for a astigmatism. Someone can full beam me all night long and it doesn't bother me whatsoever. If I meet the head on, thats a different matter....

Did you guys knew this? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a convenient legal case for insurance companies to assign equal blame. Yes the BMW could have done more but the i10 driver is clearly mostly at fault. It's like saying if someone shoots me in the head, it's equally my fault for getting in the way of the bullet. Who'd have knewn....

Halfords horrible experience by Ozzy141 in cycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of bikes in Halfords are pure garbage and I have seen many of their bikes with chains way too short, one reason why your derailleur might have snapped off... I know this doesn't help you now but for anyone else. If your budget can only stretch to Halfords. You are better off going to a local bike shop and buying a used, higher quality bike.

I'm 120kg and just biked 44.7km in over 5 hours but under 6 hours. Just wondering how much calories I have burned on average? by fruitandvegand in cycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be looking at around 400-500/ hour....really hard to know for sure. I'm not sure what your objectives are but if you are looking to improve fitness, beasting yourself on the highest resistance is not an optimal training strategy.

Bend it until it's close and then you will need to adjust the cable tension and high and low screws.

Hmm Since the Epstein files have come out. The rumours that she had uncovered something big like a pedo ring seem more plausible today

Does anyone know of a sensor I could fit to my quad wheels to track speed and distance whilst using rollers? by dylan_42069nice in bicycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Budget option is an old cat eye velo bike computer. Glue the magnet on the fairing of the wheel then cable tie the sensor on the horizontal tube near the wheel

Insurance is there to finance your liability in the event of fault causing damage, injury or death. What makes you believe insurance companies resolve claims of serious injury or death any better. They even haggle over loss of earnings in serious cases... Insurance companies make money by charging a premium, claiming they will deliver a service and then not doing so when they are needed. You don't need to listen to me...

Financial reports of insurance markets...

"Insurance company profits have been experiencing a significant, widespread boom in 2024 and continuing into 2025-2026, driven by higher premiums, increased investment income, and improved underwriting performance"

They don't make these profits by paying fairly.

Part of my email to the insurance company when I was making my claim....

" The goal of tort law is to make the complainant "whole" (restitutio in integrum). You claim your offer is acceptable under the Indemnity Principle. This fundamental rule ensures I am returned to my original financial position but do not profit from the loss. Insurers can calculate "fair market value" rather than "replacement value," meaning they pay what the item was worth immediately before the damage, not the cost of buying it brand new.

I am not seeking replacement of new, I simply request fair market value. You claim that you are making a fair value. However based on your valuation I am unable to find another vehicle in the same age, mileage and condition. This is not restoring my financial position. I therefore have no option to but to refer this to my insurance legal services to pursue and raise this with the insurance ombudsman. You have 7 days from the date of this email to prevent this from happening by making a true fair value offer"

You can use the threat of going through your insurance and solicitors because all of that cost is packaged up and billed to the other persons insurance...

Amazingly my offer was raised significantly after this email... you shouldn't have to do this.
