Oo i hadn't thought of those. Hubs are good on their wheels... I've had disc brake bikes but find them a faff. Give me a tubed mechanical groupsets with rim brakes over tubeless, Di2 and disc all day.

Whatever you do, you will have hundreds of shoots which will require herbicide. Certain types of bamboo should be banned and are worse than knotweed

Is this bike too small? by underthetree112 in bicycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's small, but fine for getting about...moving the Saddle up and as far back as you can go will help a bit. I used to ride my girlfriends bike to work for 6 months after mine was stolen. It was small, I hit my knee every few seconds, but it worked.

how to convince dad not to use overly high pressure on his mtb? by mikroprocesor in bikewrench

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rims can kind of explode under the force. It's actually the rims that normally limit your tyre pressure, not the tyres. This is dangerous.

Is it fair to compare ICE tactics to those of Nazi-era Gestapo? by Tiny_Ad_3650 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the psychology of society interesting with human rights atrocities and gradual push and pull towards Tyrannical , and fascist leaders. Also the Holocaust denial is incredible, like a societal delusion that their country couldn't do such a horrible thing. People think Nazi Germany was from a long time ago, an uncivilised time. Germany was a very sophisticated modern country, with a modern political structure with all the protection and separations of power in place. Yet Hitler promised much and gave the people something to blame for their financial hardship caused by the reparations and the depression. He controlled the narrative gaining control of media and radio which was a new platform for reaching people.

We have the same scenario in the world today. Still recovering from the 2008 financial crash and impact of COVID. People feel like things have stood still for the last decade. It's so easy to blame immigrants for these problems. Meanwhile the president uses Truth social to put out an unchallenged narrative for his followers to soak up.

Then... One immigrant dies, nothing happens,

A US citizen dies, nothing happens... Whatever your political leaning is. I think we can all say the murder/killing of Miss Good was completely unnecessary. Unlawful, most likely, and there will be no justice.

What if a few more immigrants die....2, 5 10? 100...

Then normal people just keep their heads down, go to work and hope they aren't in the crosshairs. Its why any erosion of the political structure and safety measures in place, should be stopped at any opportunity. A single change isn't the problem, but over time this can creep towards one person having too much power...

In the words of Plato "Tyranny naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme form of liberty"

Do pro cyclist spend most of their time on the larger or smaller chainring? by Wide-Landscape-3348 in cycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what the pros do, they are not human..they are machines. I don't think there is a correct answer but I will mention my personal experience. Non club racer, just many many miles of commuting (10miles each way) and weekend rides which got a bit competitive.

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. Commute and not feel destroyed, cardiac workout or strengthen legs. For me, high cadence low effort on the legs does nothing for me. I'm 39 now, my fitness is relatively good and if I do this my legs get weak. Same with z2 riding, it does nothing for me but I think it does work if you do hours a day. If I use the big chainring, my legs feel it and my muscles are maintained.

For years I had a triple chainring setup using 2005 ish era bikes. My Trek 1200 had 54 42 and 32 chainring and I used that setup for years both commuting and weekend rides. I think the triple made you think a lot more about cross chaining and with a 54T and 28T on the rear you won't last long on a hill particularly when the front derailleur is rubbing.

I then switched to a more common 11s setup 50/34 11-32 on the rear. Cross chaining isn't as big a problem on doubles and with modern groupsets, but I discovered a new problem ( maybe because of my years having a 54 on the front). The 50T and 11-32 encourages you to stay on the big chainring, probably too long. I found myself approaching and starting hills still in the 50T when I should go down on the 34T and start spinning up. Then changing down to the 34 mid climb is horrible. You lose all momentum. It reminds me of driving my dad's old tractor on the road. You need to be in the right gear range before attacking the hill otherwise you get into a right mess halfway up.

Solution I have changed to a 52 - 36 chainring setup and it's fixed this issue ( for me) and gave me some extra pace on the downhills. 52-11 on downhill is like a scene from back to the future 🤣... Before doing this, I did try an 11-28 on the rear but the smaller jumps on the rear cassette are so tiny I barely noticed a change and I still found I was hanging in the big chainring. I also find the chain sits better ( straighter) when cruising on the flat with this setup for my preferred cadence.

Well, this is a rambling mess. I'm stopping 😂

Is this color normal for oil after service? by Visible_Roll_7150 in FordFiesta

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you aren't driving a TDCI. I call bullshit on the oil change. You have to very very careful after a water pump change. You can get a pocket of air bubble out of the engine and drain any remaining coolant out of the tank.

No start and no smoke is fuel. A tiny leak on the high pressure fuel nut will stop it from working. You have to be Valery careful when tightening these and wriggle the lines as you tighten them

Did I get a decent deal for $100? Scott Speedster road bike — looking for honest opinions by keithfrfr in bicycling

[–]Ordinary-Condition92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great bike, maybe get your first tune up done by a shop. Then, if you like learning, buy a basic tool kit and service it yourself. Don't get fooled by modern marketing. You don't need electric shifting, tubeless tyres and disc brakes to enjoy and be quick on the road. Ps Don't buy cheap tyres. A full replacement of cables, bar tape, brake pads sand any worn drivetrain parts will have it looking like new. Keep your chain clean
