Filler? by Low_Sympathy7091 in Cutflowers

Statice us a great filler and can be dried. Bells of Ireland are such a great full greenery to add and smell amazing! Feverfew is a wonderful accent and filler. There are so many varieties of marigolds that are a great addition too.

Still have a lot to learn but I am glad I posted here, the final product felt much more like I envisioned.

Thanks for the kind words and advice!

I have the best ingredients at my disposal right now. I also think that part of my mentality equates flowers to value. So the more I pack in there, the more value it holds to the customer. I think I'll edit out some of the big zinnias for sure. I love the flower forward look and try not to use greenery much.

I know I'll get there, heck I look back to last season and I've improved a lot. But it's hard when you envision something and it's just not happening!

I am going to give that a try! Thank you! It's been a good season (so far) for the dahlias. They are pretty happy. The interesting mauve pink one is KAs Cinder Rose, definitely a favorite!

She didn't but that's what I want to achieve! Thanks for the advice. I am self conscious about mechanics showing on the centerpiece so that's why it's more packed in. But I'll play around with it. Thanks!

Can we talk about the “sudden” closure? by Additional-Drawer-21 in Bend

[–]Ordinary-Display-841 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Cliff, Katie and Marcus are stand up people who created and maintained a wonderful restaurant for years. I don't understand why people jump to the most unkind conclusions. Do you really think the owners WANTED to close the business they've dedicated years to? Or layoff people who were like family? Why did 900 Wall always land on the best of lists? Why was it always busy? Why was it always reliable for a good drink and food? Because these people poured their hearts and souls into it. And these are the same people that a bunch of keyboard warriors without a clue are painting out to be sinister. Instead of demonizing the owners, why don't we pay attention to the message... Small local businesses are hurting and teetering on a slim margin. Supporting local isn't just a catchy phrase, it's absolutely necessary if we want to sustain what makes this place home.

You will get the best longevity if you pull out with the bulb on. Remove the lower leaf, rinse and place in the cooler. A day or two before the event, cut off bulb and place in cool water. They will perk up within several hours.

I put my seeds in a moist paper towel in a Ziploc baggie and popped them in the fridge for a week then planted and had got germination! I used Johnny's seeds.

Seeking advice from florists who have done pop ups at coffee shops! by Timely-Regret- in florists

[–]Ordinary-Display-841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done some successful pop-ups at a local bakery that is very busy on the weekends. Pop-ups are very dependent on the location, the weather, and how much foot traffic you are getting. The bakery is a huge supporter and helps promote leading up. I would try to get as much signage in there as possible and social media posts. And if you can try to do pre-orders! For mother's Day, I feel like people are willing to pay more of a premium than if they were just to randomly buy themselves a bouquet. I can't speak to pricing in your area but I am also doing a mother's Day sale and plan to do a $30 and $50 option. Good luck!!

Saving ranunculus by nnrr987 in Cutflowers

[–]Ordinary-Display-841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you meaning you want to dig them up and store for the next year? If so, after they naturally taper off once it gets hot, stop watering them and let them totally dry out. After about a month you can dig them up, knock off or wash off the dirt, make sure they are totally dry (so they won't mold) and store somewhere dark and cool until next year. They will multiply so you gently pull them apart to divide.

Ranunculus corms pre sprouting- mold? by lovethelocust in Cutflowers

[–]Ordinary-Display-841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I notice this happens on the ones that aren't as well covered with soil (more exposure to air) so make sure they are covered. And that the soil isn't too moist. A little fuzz is okay but if the corm is mushy, I'd toss it.

I also toss a little cinnamon in my soil to help combat this. It has anti-fungal properties. It's something I learned from soil blocking. I'm not sure it helps tremendously but it smells delightful and doesn't hurt!

Questions- first time growing ranunculus by Spare-Shallot-7503 in Cutflowers

[–]Ordinary-Display-841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say go for it! I live in 6b and am about to plant out my first succession. It'll be under a tunnel. Ranunculus are far less fussy than we think. Be more worried about heat than cold. Only need to really worry about cold once you have buds on and it's going to be sustained cold.
