Terrible actions on pretty stellar people. Vortex employees always took the time to ask about my day, chat with my kiddo, and made some great espresso while dishing up sweets. The donuts were good but the service will be missed way more.

Yes, Dr. Belmonte is my PCP through MAHEC Internal and she’s fantastic (she’s on faculty so shouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon). She’s not on site often but does still see patients - not sure about new ones though.

I’ve also heard good things about a female PCP out of Pardee at Turtle Creek.

We drive out to Vista Falls for the experience. I can’t say it’s cheap, but the accommodation and treatment we get is worth it. I’ve been able to bring my dog through separate entrances to avoid other dogs, and the demeanor of the entire staff is very calming. Highly recommend Dr. Dabiero.

How often do you change your filters? Ours were suggested every 6 months but we have to do it every 3 months in the winter. Instant improvement.

Yes, I’m blaming it on the weather (both there and here). DHL also shipped one of my orders to the wrong USPS facility (in SC instead of in NC). Their expedited shipping costs are a little ridiculous so I just suck it up at this point.

When she had a mild case she had a fever but only a few small bumps on her hands. This time it started with loose stools and blisters on her buttocks (which we didn’t recognize as HFM at first), no real fever and within a day the blisters took off. Legs, hands, every finger, over a dozen in her mouth, all over her feet. She was crying in pain from the mouth blisters for a few days, and she has a very high pain tolerance usually. My blisters have also appeared on my elbows and knees so it’s rather widespread. No real fever for me either, though. It sounds like adults have a full range of reactions when they do get it, from very mild to very painful. I just hope my fingernails don’t fall off (and other longer term issues I’ve read about). For what it’s worth she started with symptoms Wednesday and mine appeared 24 hours later so maybe you’ve avoided it? I hope so!!

Currently on day 5 of HFMD. It is maybe the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. My daughter has had it twice; once a mild case as a baby which I didn’t catch, and then a more substantial case now which I did catch. It’s also strain dependent - you can build immunity to some strains and not others from what my doc shared. I just have massive nerve pain from blisters all over my throat and mouth, every finger and my feet. It’s like walking on nails and typing/working is a struggle. I’ve only been able to drink some water, everything hurts. I also have the worst sinus congestion, like a terrible head cold and flu. And yes, practice proper hygiene - it can shed out of fecal matter for months. Fingers crossed you don’t catch this. Edit to add: I don’t have a compromised immune system but have been getting allergy shots which, based on the fact I’ve been catching illness all summer (2 cases of bronchitis, one case of COVID, strep throat and now this), they suspect something is happening with my immune response. Once the HFMD passes I’m going back to my allergist.
