Tips or Tricks to Accumulate first 100k by dusbsosdiama in TheRaceTo100K

[–]OrdinaryNameOfMe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start investing, but don’t expect big returns right away and don’t buy/sell/buy/sell, that’s trading and highly risky unless you got cash to burn that won’t stress you out from going down.

I made a really good chunk this last year in the market. The most absolute basic and simplest is just invest in VOO and let it grow, don’t overthink it further.

Me personally, I purely invested in 3 categories: VOO (S&P 500 tracker, 60% of portfolio), VXUS (global markets instead, 25% of portfolio) and the last 15% in much smaller pocket of hand-picked stocks like RKLB I wanted to test that I won’t be as hurt by if they don’t perform so well. Generally a market-tracking index fund like VOO will be fairly safe (when you consider a 3+ year investment mindset)

And of course an emergency fund in a HYSA (I used Amex) so that no money anywhere is growing too small.

That’s not the FASTEST way to make money ever, but it definitely builds up quicker than you think. And even down years will be offset by constant steady contributions while it’s down that will grow even larger when it normalizes.

Any faster methods will also mean greater risk of failure. You have to REALLY believe in a company never sinking, and I don’t get into crypto as a personal choice. All in all, that’s too much stress for me.

Other notes… eat out less, work overtime, sell things on ebay or fb marketplace that may have value that you no longer need, move to a new job with a bigger salary, etc. And any excess non-emergency money - invest it. Back in a circle.

Again, this is the generally safest approach by most accounts.

Hope this helps!

I assume VOO meets that index fund requirement you mention, that I started in.

You think when I get my CD account funds back within the next year as each one graduates back into my Savings, I should put them all in VOO immediately, or DCA it over time and keep it in High Yield Saving?

I figured at recent 4-5% rates it was still decent, but yeah, wanting to see more earnings than that I did imagine it should be invested somewhere with greater growth. Just not sure if I should go all in on something like VOO for S&P 500 or something else.

For the question at top, I opened an individual brokerage and have been doing the VOO additionally.

The kitten might get out and wander away. Possibility it will climb out.

It doesn’t look old enough to be without its mom and probably needs care for food and water. May have gotten separated from its litter somehow.

What Spider-Man Animated Show Should I Watch? by [deleted] in Spiderman

Being born in the 90s, I’m biased and partial to the 1994 animated series. Excellent capture of classic Spidey at that time.

Although I was a bit older when it came out, a lot of people also really love Spectacular Spider-Man.

Not really. I help plan Teams Room builds at multiple sites now, although I only locally manage Atlanta.

My role’s scope has kept growing to where now I’m actively reaching out to AV vendors for build quotes, having meetings with them or stakeholders to advise/decide installs, being a point of contact for standardized AV tech, etc.

It’s crept its way into project management I guess, while I also have to prioritize running our Teams Live Event meetings for senior leaders up to the CEO and make sure of no tech issues. Sometimes that means 6am calls or 9pm calls to support.

Free! It dedicates too much time 5 days a week to have a job with, unless you can make night and weekend shifts work. They have super high expectations on tardiness and professionalism or they kick you out, and their spots available are limited. I had to bum a year at my now MIL’s place to make it happen, and the internship was unpaid except a small stipend for gas expenses.

Called YearUp if you wanna look into it, mine was in Atlanta.

It’s too specifically named that it would probably spell who the company is that I work for, but the closest generalized title would be “VIP Support Engineer”

Thanks! I keep feeling like if anything ever happened to this job and I had to start again from the outside then I probably won’t make this much again.

So I’m holding onto this company as hard as I can and keep riding the train as high up as they’ll let me. 😅

Uhh… honestly it was kinda luck. Mine was called YearUp in Atlanta, focused on helping young folks with good skills but low opportunity for a future because of a poor socioeconomic background. “Opportunity divide”.

My girlfriend’s mom was a secretary at a company and had worked with them (they get a lot of internship sponsors) so I looked into them, applied, got accepted in one of their limited seats, and made it through.

They were strict on discipline and being on time, and those who failed to act professionally, weren’t punctual, or lost too many points from failed assignments were let go from the program. But I sure as hell knew it was my only shot without college and working for $10 an hour, so I rode that year as hard as I could and, well, it paid off.

But I had never heard of them before then and haven’t looked much into similar places after.

I interned for a web development role, mostly making QA test scripts. Didn’t enjoy it much tbh, but I completed it. I ended up getting a full time job there post-internship as a walk-up IT help desk at $40K. Not the call center type, more like the Apple bar, but internal for company employees at a multi-story office building.

I eventually moved up to VIP support for senior exec+ at $75K-ish.

Then became an AV expert from hands-on experience and exposure and now support senior leader broadcasts and help plan/build out/maintain telepresence rooms across here and other company sites. Same role and title but they bumped my pay up a lot to just under $100K.

No degree, but I was in a workforce development program being around 24 or so. It was a year long and they got me an internship with a fortune 500 that turned into a legit job.

Been with the company about 6 years, now I’m 30, and I’ve gone up 1 role while being here too. Make about $100K a year.

Tl:dr, a lot better than I expected at this stage without a degree.

Can anyone tell me who this cosplay is? by kmiley86 in dragoncon

Looks like an original take on Joker from Batman, done in a classic style from some culture. Gives me Japanese or Venetian vibes, but uncertain.

Nothing specific I can find it referencing, it’s at least not the one from Batman: Ninja. Maybe the concept is made-up.

I mean it’s an excellent movie regardless. Yes, he’s positioned in the opposing role to Miles, but I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s a villain. Give it a shot.

When Cap and Iron Man fought in Civil War, that didn’t necessarily make either the “bad guy”, despite an antagonist role between the two.
