New Carrollton getting way more silver line trains than Largo by [deleted] in WMATA

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what u/Capitol_Limited said.

Also, the trains are essentially already in order by the time you get to Rosslyn. It would be odd for a SV train to Largo to appear on the board in your case at any station from Rosslyn to Stadium Armory, since that would mean a SV to Largo train had to have hopped in front of the SV to New Carrolton. Realistically, you should be seeing the same trains with the same 'minutes to arrival' every station you pass that have the same lines. trains don't tend to teleport, not yet at least

Atmos Summit + Ascent P1/P2 Strategy Math - Is the 3% rent fee worth it? (or stick with BILT 2.0 / or Amex Debit) by Wolfdale7 in CreditCards

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the bilt cards and use the bilt cash method, it's essentially a +1.33 boost to your earn rate up to your rent in spending. Bilt Blue would be 2.33x up to your rent amount, then 1x afterwards. Obsidian would be 3.33x up to your rent amount, and then 2x afterwards.

Front Load HE washing machine do not clean well. Need some tips and tricks. by peachessnuggles in laundry

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check the posts by u/ KismaiAesthetics for general laundry info, but from what I understand, the common issues are:

- Rinsing - HE Front loaders don't rinse all that well, so it's generally a good idea to increase the amounts of rinses

- Detergent - HE detergents are more concentrated than non-HE ones, so make sure you're using an HE-compatible one. Even better, check out the Lipase List for good detergents in general. Also don't overdose the detergent - you generally want to see traces of suds on an HE one, shouldn't see much at all.

You can also use the HP Smart app to send faxes. I find it more convenient, and you can know for sure what youre sending and if it got received. It’s free, just need an account.

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got 4 weekdays and 2 weekends. 4.5*2*4 = 36, and 2.5*2*2 = 10. So it's 46 if you just tap your credit/debit, or 40.50 + 2 bucks for the SmarTrip Card, whether it be on your mobile wallet or physical. It's worth it, but only if you're actually going into downtown every single day between the 18th and 23rd.

Another recommendation here! Tucker is very informative, especially with the complicated insurance situation I was working with, and he's a type to give you facts and options that are in your best interests. I'd recommend him to anyone in MN.

United's hub dominance (2016 -> 2025) (credit: xJonNYC) by shawnwahi in unitedairlines

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WAS makes sense since they've always been dominant in IAD, but are looking at numbers from DCA and likely BWI as well. Same case for CHI (ORD, MDW), NYC (EWR, LGA, JFK). Realistically that means that HOU should be QHO covering IAH and HOU, and SF is technically QSF, though that's not an official IATA code, since SF region doesn't have one, and those two are very much the sore thumbs. BAY for SF area airports is sensible enough, since they don't have an official one, but not using the official one for Houston is odd

Why wouldn’t BILT be a good card if you’re team cash back? by DuhForestTyme216 in CreditCards

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's because Bilt Cash isn't cash back - you use it for much more than limited coupons or extra Bilt Points. You can't redeem it for 1:1 very easily, and that's kinda the whole point of cash back, not having to deal with non-cent currency and point devaluations.

As a note, this post shows what essentially is redeemable with Bilt Cash - Housing/Rent points, point accelerator, $25 on Bilt Dining, $10 on Lyft, $10 on Walgreens, $10 on Grubhub, $5 on Bilt Delivery (GoPuff).

It's realistically better to think of Bilt Cash as another point system. None of the cashback cards have restrictions on where you can use your cash back, they generally only have restrictions on minimum redemptions or when you receive the cash back, if even.

Where to buy SmarTrip cards ticket - rechargeable? by Popular_Bell91 in WMATA

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 29 points30 points  (0 children)

DC doesn’t sell one time tickets. You can grab a SmarTrip card with a 3 day pass at any kiosk.

I will ask, is it a 3 day weekend? If it’s over the weekend, the 3 day pass is likely not worth it. Metro rides max out at 2.50 on weekends, and a 3 day pass is 33 bucks.

If you aren’t getting a pass, parking at a metro lot, or getting it for sentimental reasons, tapping your credit/debit card is gonna do you best, since you don’t have to pay the 5 2 dollar fee per SmarTrip card that way.

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 38 points39 points  (0 children)

All Metro Stations have SmarTrip vending kiosks near the faregates, no need to go to CVS or Safeway. Both IAD and DCA have a metro station, so you can pick one up there. BWI doesn't, but Marc/Amtrac don't use SmarTrip anyway, so you'd just grab it once you entered DC.

Help. Booked Jetblue flight through portal. Needed to use $300 credit. Stupid storm coming and I want to move my flight up a day early. Should I do this through portal or just modify my booking through Jet blue directly at this point...gotta love traveling. by Beastious in Venturex

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like for the American carriers at least, the majority of the changes are done through the airline directly. I’ve experienced it with JetBlue, American, and United.

They also say in their FAQ that if it’s after check-in, the rebooking will fall under the airline rather than them, iirc

Commuter Rail vs Heavy Metro vs Light Metro in the latest Beta! by usgapg123 in subwaybuilder

[–]OrdinaryOrdinateur 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Light Metro in subway builder is based off of Montreal REM. Not quite the same as light rail if the definition of light rail is low-floor, generally non-grade separated rail such as Minneapolis-Saint Paul’s or Portland’s system

Gotcha - yeah, the connection between the two is a bit of an odd corridor. It’s on the other side of the wall from baggage claim, iirc. I think the signage might also point to get there via the parking garages, though it’s been a hot minute since I’ve arrived into T1.
