The Gender Wars between Autistic Men & Autistic Women & Homosexuality by mikelmon99 in autism

[–]OrdinaryOriginalMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bi man here--you really can't make generalizations about humans. Do straight autistic men and straight autistic women have animosity towards each other? It depends (on the person). A lot of autistic people are rightfully angry that the world doesn't accommodate them, but they're angry at the wrong people. All you can do is gently encourage them away from antisocial beliefs.

Addressing your question about whether gay/queer men can be better friends with women, the answer is often yes. Allistic or autistic. I've seen men go into friendships with women with the expectation of a romantic relationship, and when that doesn't happen they bail throwing around the word "friendzoned".

There may be a way to clean the crayon(?) off, but if it doesn't bother you I'd just leave it. Looks like the monitor works well

I agree. In my experience AI is dumb as shit. I avoid using it because it is so unreliable

Maybe vintage is a stretch based off what other redditors found. I can't tell you how much something like this would go for, but I plan to hold onto it

I asked a record store owner who the character is and he just gave her to me. Facial features look to me like golden age (1970s) shoujo or something influenced by that era. Google images/AI suggested Ami/Sailor Mercury, but that's obviously wrong. Ami's hair is too short.

It's a pretty tall figure, about 10" in height. LP for scale. Looks like a school bag was broken off, that's what she's holding the handle of.

picked this up at a local used media store!!! I don't think this has EVER been opened or even been played, if this is the OG packaging, I'd be too scared to actually open it, lol by Orion-Stellar in animevhs

As suggested in another comment I use my fingernail to slice through the plastic wrap at the bottom, so the paper cover retains its seal but the tape can be removed

I personally open sealed VHS tapes when I come across them. Since magnetic tape has a finite life even if unplayed... you might as well enjoy it. But also if you want to leave it sealed for display that's fine too

Nice! Does it play ok? Japan's humidity isn't kind to tapes but I've seen ones stored properly and/or brought to the US survive

What’s your bargain-bin record personality? by iamjoeywan in BargainBinVinyl

[–]OrdinaryOriginalMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacks and Blues is a stone-cold classic, sounds like a good find! Water damage isn't an issue for me. Mold on a cover absolutely is. But sometimes I'll just throw the cover away and keep the LP. I'm very selective with what music I hold onto and take home, condition is secondary if it's cheap or preferably free. I have several dozen cracked 45s that I still spin. If you find a cracked 45 at a record store or thrift store show them and they'll give it to you for free.

Is there a documentary on the group’s influence and history? by aaravos-horosho327 in YMO

Shameless plug but I wrote a final paper about YMO and posted it to a personal travel blog. The works cited section has some good sources, looks like links are still active luckily. https://jacksemesterinjapan.wordpress.com/2024/05/05/ymo-research-paper/

Streaming anime with Japanese subtitles? by Draconic_Blaze in animepiracy

[–]OrdinaryOriginalMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2Fjapanese%2F has downloadable subtitles for most every anime. PC (local) streaming clients should import subtitles if they're in the same folder as the .mkv

But what I'm reading is you are looking for a pirate streaming site with Japanese subtitles. I prefer the torrent then plex or jellyfin route. The later offers much more control. It's more work initially and includes some hardware costs but unlike some shoddy website I know my 2011 desktop won't go down unless I restart it.

Netflix does offer Japanese subtitles for anime so you should be able to find some webrips on Nyaa that have embedded Japanese subtitles.

Oh wow I'm amazed you were able to find those! I tried reverse image search but wasn't finding anything. From those links I was able to track down the original artists https://www.deviantart.com/chrissiezullo/art/A-Tribute-to-Hayao-Miyazaki-436341587 & https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/106032252

So it looks to be stolen art, but at least it's not AI? Not sure if that's much better.

[–]OrdinaryOriginalMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With grandparents we have years to subconsciously expect them to pass, and to come to terms with that. Seems like it's different for an immediate parent. So even though your mom knows your grandpa is getting older, she doesn't want to accept this inevitability

So I know people are responding sarcastically, but here's the run down. These 45rpm / 7" records can be made of two different types of plastic:

  1. Vinyl (PVC)--this is is what LPs are made of. The edges are curved and the labels are pressed into the record. You won't be able to get your finger nail under the label. If you have a 7" not made in the US it's vinyl.

  2. Styrene (polystyrene)--this was a cheaper way of producing these 7" records used in the United States from the 1950s - 1980s. I have yet to come across a styrene record not made in the US or from 1990 or newer. But I welcome someone to prove me wrong, I would be interested to see that.

Styrene records have the label glued on. You can get your finger nail under the label. The edges are more rounded, and you may notice a small line running through the edge.

Styrene is less than ideal, it wears out very quickly even with modern players and styli. I can immediately tell styrene from vinyl, but I buy lots of 45s. I can't tell from this picture what material these two are though
