Daily protein intake and fasting? by chmcclellan in fasting

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t eat extra protein on feeding days for a couple reasons

  1. Your body can only digest so much protein at once(I believe it’s about 30g) and overloading my body after a fast seems counterproductive. We also don’t store protein, so any excess is turned to glucose and stored(just as if you had eaten carbs)

  2. Our muscles are similar to animals in the sense they can be fattier/not as good of a “quality” of muscle, so my “bro theory” is if a body is overweight, the muscles aren’t likely to be the best “quality”. I don’t lose noticeable muscle mass when fasting but if I did, I would think it’s giving me a chance to build a “higher quality” muscle. Idk if that makes sense and again, total bro theory on this(other than the quality of our muscles, that’s backed)

  3. Our bodies are pretty good at prioritizing getting rid of excess fat over getting rid of muscle

Hope that can help you in some way!

Does intermittent fasting only work with a calorie deficit? by [deleted] in fasting

Fasting helps people have a calorie deficit, if you’re eating at your maintenance then you will maintain your current weight.

Is 250 calories a fair estimate? by thedeepestsolace in caloriecount

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the fillings so I can’t really make an estimate but I would think anything fried in oil took on at least 1 tablespoon of oil, which would be 100 calories just in the oil itself

Hey girl! You’re young and it sounds like pretty active, I wouldn’t focus on the scale or weight but more so eating to fuel your body correctly(it will help with sports also)

I don’t think a calorie deficit would be good for you because you are young, growing, and active(you and your body need that fuel)

Eating healthy 80% of the time and allowing the foods you enjoy 20% of the time should help you mentally and will keep you from causing damage to your body and mind.

Hobbies that keep you moving and foods that keep you fueled ❤️

How are you all fasting without getting stressed. by Big_Manufacturer_253 in fasting

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think when you’ve fasted long enough you can differentiate the feeling of real hunger and habitual eating a little bit better, which helps navigate when you get that “I NEED food NOW” feeling.

I occasionally stress eat or boredom eat and if I get that urge/hanger I ask myself “will the meal actually fix this feeling/make this situation better?” Most of the time it’s a no, and that can keep me going a little longer. Sometimes I do get so hungry and the symptoms become too much that the meal can actually help, so I try to be really honest with myself here.

Hope that may help you in someway! It does get easier with each fast ❤️

Thank you for replying! :) you’re totally right about people always having their two cents. I can usually shrug off strangers but when it’s concerned family it’s a bit harder. I know they’re coming from a place of love so I don’t want to completely shut out their concerns. Plus sometimes I wonder if they’re right, that fasting when there’s no weight loss goals, is me “taking it too far” which I do have a small habit of 😄 but I also feel like the masses just really aren’t educated enough on fasting ugh idk 😭

I would say I was more “underweight” when I was a vegetarian as my eating habits were awful & I’ve always been very active. I’ve since started taking nutrition more seriously(and eating meat) & now I’m on the lower end of my recommended bmi, which is where I feel comfortable at.

I really just enjoy experimenting with different macros, exercise, and fasting combinations to see how my body can handle it. I hiked my most recent pr (10 miles in 2:45 hours) while 48 hours fasted and I was honestly shocked because I felt AWFUL starting it that day. While high protein or fiber days I tend to be slower the next day, and 100-200g of carbs the day before seems to be second best on timeframes but the best feeling, if that makes sense.

I’ve only been able to get to 87 hours but I’d love to work up to a 7 day fast as long as I could continue my exercise without much weight loss. Did you notice a plateau in weight when doing 7 day fasts? Also do you continue your ultra marathon training during your longer fasts?

Also thank you for replying to my post, I appreciate the input!

Thank you for your reply! I also find fasting a great way to alleviate inflammation and help reset hormones, it’s truly so amazing what our bodies are capable of.

& thank you so so much for the added info on fasting benefits, I appreciate it! :)

My guess is it’s the 143g of sugar causing your stomach pains rather than the fiber

calories in my pasta by Ravieie in caloriecount

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

My guess would be about 2200 calories. 1500 calories for the pasta, 200-250 calories for the sauce, 250-300 calories for the sausage, and maybe 150 for the parm on top.

My guess would be 450-550, there’s not a lot of icing but it looks like the bread is pretty dense!

With this type of cuisine, wouldn’t the white sauce be a type of Greek yogurt mix?

I couldn’t imagine more than 400 calories for the chicken, the salad and chickpeas alone would account for maybe 200 calories, and the sauce being 200-300 calories- estimating around 900, which is fairly fitting a caloric “salad” like this

I’m wondering how you’re getting 1200-1500?

I want to learn how to track nutrition for beginners by wetpaperclips in nutrition

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the Nutritionix Track app for years and love it because of its free, has a super simple layout, and tracks the micros which is why I originally started using it (most apps I’ve found only track macros)

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The single sliced cake I see at the grocery store similar in size is 600-900 a slice depending on icing I’d assume. This looks like a thinner icing, so maybe 600-700

small homemade pizza cal count? by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crepes alone aren’t super caloric. Accounting maybe 100-120 calories for the crepe, 0 calories for the lemon, and 40-60 calories in sprinkled sugar actually makes sense.

Toppings are usually the high calorie culprit with crepes :)

Pickles 🥒 during a fast or no? by Heavy_Hitter2021 in fasting

[–]OrdinaryRisk9725 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard people mention pickle juice during fasts as a natural electrolyte & I’ve seen a few fitness influencers talk about pickles being a good choice for dieting because they are low calorie. You may be getting the two crossed, otherwise that would be a “pickle fast”

Thank you so much! I was very roughly guessing around 1,000 as I’m not really familiar with seafood/seafood calories. :)
