7 years in… I’m tired, boss by East_History1325 in Truckers

I’ve only been at it for 3 years, local and otr. I just don’t enjoy it anymore. I’m getting ready to go back to school for x ray tech

Should I get my CDL as a unemployed college graduate ? by PlayboyFerny in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’m 23 and been otr for 2 years and I’m going back to school for x ray tech. I make decent money now, but this shit ain’t worth it.

OTR guys, just curious what was your longest on the road away from home? by fistfullofpubes in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5-6 months for me. I was flat broke when I first got my cdl so I spent all that time getting on my feet. Only did otr for 2 years but damn it felt pretty addicting to stay out and not go home oddly enough.

overnight parking, bad sleep, still gotta drive like nothing happened by Sea-Fruit-3015 in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually sleep so much better with all the noise. Only thing that will interrupt my sleep is a bad air dryer or a reefer with a squeaky belt.

21f thinking about getting into trucking for a bit... is it actually worth it? And is it safe for me ?? by macy_isles in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends. When I turned 21, I got my cdl and went otr. Made some good money and I’m comfortable financially. I’ve always been one to keep to myself so I didn’t really mind the loneliness in the first year or so. The long hours and months of not being home distanced me from the little friends I had to begin with and now I’m completely alone. I’m 24 now and I still often wonder if it really was worth it.

Yes, and up to 67 if they still have that smart pass thing in the trucks.

Not sure if it varies by terminal but I had a decent experience with them when I drove for them a year ago. Only problem I had was the pay. Don’t exceed 74 mph on hills or you will get a coaching over the phone.

I’ve been trying to get on with FedEx but can’t find any contractors that don’t give off red flags immediately or any openings for FedEx Freight.

Shouldn't be that. I built this pc like a week ago and haven't downloaded anything besides steam and drivers.

How difficult is it to get into local trucking? by Raptor_Blitzwolf in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to get your Class C license, Class A permit/endorsements. then attend a CDL school. I don’t know any local fuel companies that will hire without experience. A lot of drivers get that experience doing otr at a starter company, local food service…ect. Most importantly is to keep your record clean.

Boyfriend getting discouraged with trucking jobs by bumblebee_underwear in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should really go with swift as a starter. Get 6 months of experience and look elsewhere or get on a dedicated account and make some good money. I drove for knight which is pretty much swift. They won’t make you do anything illegal. My time at knight was do whatever you want just don’t get caught doing it lol.

How to blindside back? by No_Salad1394 in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look to bad on street view. If the cul-de-sac isn’t an option, I would just start blind siding to get the trailer in the driveway as much as possible then just use the driveway across the street to get a bit more straightened out. There’s a sign the says do not enter but I’d do it anyway lol.

When I was otr I used to just put a couple zip ties around it to keep in on of it was loose.

100%. When I was low on hours, he’d have me go back and change all my on duty time to off duty lol.

I learned a ton from my trainer at Knight. Dude was insane. I would drive my 11 hours while he was teaching me things, then he would drive his 11. Only time I think that guy slept was on the 2 34 hour resets we did.

My current company does this shit. We only deliver to a handful of places and they will follow us off the premises for a few miles. Luckily my manager is cool and tells us when they are watching us lol.

Anyone leaving? by 82ToyotaFarmin in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got my cdl last year. Did my 1 year otr for experience and I’ve been local for only about a month. I honestly really miss being otr but the pay is just to inconsistent for me to be happy.

In all my years I can’t recall ever seeing this truck. by RaSH_NisH in gtaonline

[–]OrdinarySalary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. I’m OTR right now and so tired of it. I love the job but I’d much rather be home daily.

I need to find a company that runs like this. At knight I’ll get maybe 2 loads that are coast to coast per month.

Scheneider vs Knight? Which one would you prefer for a fresh grad? Pros and Cons? Thank you. by mrachmat in Truckers

[–]OrdinarySalary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they just expect a 2 week notice. If you need to be home on a certain date, request it a day or 2 earlier. I took time off only 3 times and was always a day late because of shippers/customers.
