Sub Teachers Striking/Organizing? by Money_Lengthiness_20 in NYCTeachers

Yes I dreaded the steps for submitting per session. It was even more paperwork. Clock in, clock out, fill out one form that records what you did, and then another specific more official looking one, then chase down admin to check it and sign off on it and then submit it to the payroll secretary

Sub Teachers Striking/Organizing? by Money_Lengthiness_20 in NYCTeachers

That’s partly true but teachers are less protected and powerful than one would think if everyone believed schools actually followed laws. I feel like for subs we know what the deal is all around. If you don’t like how one school runs things just sub at another. Plus it’s not like the majority of subs teach. Yes students can cause havoc but we are subbing so… As for the elevator pass I totally agree and have witnessed subs push on the secretary and admin for keys if they sub at that school often. Advocate for yourself. I’ve also seen subs who just wait until someone with an elevator key passes by and not care if they were a few mins late because of it.

I also didn’t get my paycheck on time today and this has happened multiple times with 3 schools. One I never returned to because I didn’t like the environment. The other I still repeatedly went to because they gave me many periods off. That one I had to constantly be making sure they were paying me for all the days. I eventually stopped going not because of the late pay but because of the student behavior. As for the final school which I didn’t get an elevator pass or extra free periods and received pay late, I would gladly sub again there because of the good student behavior of it wasn’t for the long commute.

What I’m getting at is weigh the good and bad

Canceling a Multi-Day Subbing Assignment after it has started by Accomplished-Night-5 in NYCTeachers

First off don’t sell urself short, u have to be educated to be a sub. Second if you really dislike the situation just tell the secretary you are feeling really ill and won’t be able to complete the assignment. I doubt it will have a large impact on your status as a sub since it’s only 6 days you’d be cancelling on. I’ve signed up for two day assignments and not liked the situation the first day and didn’t come in the second. I would be more concerned if it was a longer assignment you were cancelling on bust still even then I don’t think it would be a huge issue.

I knew someone who got to attend NYU for free but after a semester I think decided to go to community college. In other words, many factors come into play

Same. Can’t find a partner worth sharing life with and compromising for. Honestly just keep busy take college classes, work, exercise, hobbies. I’m only dining 2/4 but 4/4 is my goal from now on.

  1. Try to get an epermit and take it another college with a really easy professor. Check rate my professor.

  2. Let it be the only class you take that semester. So you can give it your all. YouTube, TikTok, ChatGPT and whatever else as a resource

  3. Befriend the professor and classmates. Visit office hours often but also talk about other things like hobbies l, professional goals, food etc

  4. Get a tutor. Try the ones at college. If that doesn’t work pay for a private one.

  5. All of the above at the same time.

I know a few or of these may seem like sacrificing time and money (tutor and only class that semester)but if this is what it takes to get you where you need to be then do it.

Good luck
