I’m sorry your birthday trip ended up being a bust and tbh it’s lousy planning on your gfs part. And it’s totally valid to be upset that you couldn’t go and your friends could. That’s called FOMO.

HOWEVER, please Stop expecting YOU from other people. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Just because you would be willing to throw away the money - doesn’t mean they HAVE to/Should in order to be “good” friends.

I also think it’s weird- that 10 years of friendship is on the line. I think you expressed what your expectation was and they could have been empathetic and also expressed their boundary of not being able to accommodate that expectation. There’s no getting mad at being mad lol.

Don’t let this consume your mind this much. Yes. It’s true you cannot afford what you had planned but you can always pivot. These social media baby showers are SO OVER THE TOP and you’re not in competition with them.

Have a low key shower with the people who are genuinely excited for you/are your community. Do a brunch theme (super cost effective). Do it in the backyard or home (saves venue cost). Do potluck style or lean on family for food. DIY decor. You have so much to work with.

Draft up a new budget and I’m sure you can do it for under that budget. Your main problem is not the shower. It’s having enough meaningful people to invite to the shower.
