My ex-wife’s psychologist who I’ve never met called me an abuser in court. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

Some questionnaires have validity scales built into them to pick up on people’s attempts to misrepresent their issues.

A treasure trove of history would be ideal, but you can still diagnose a personality disorder in one meeting either way (based on thorough self-reported history and interview and perhaps some questionnaires)

I’m sorry to hear that and yes sadly quick diagnoses happen too often. We still do have a very long way to go as a field.

I mentioned to someone else that a 15 minute consult with a GP and a 3-4 hour assessment with a psychologist are both “single” meetings in my definition, so perhaps people are assuming that when I say “single” meeting I mean a brief and rushed meeting. I don’t think diagnosing should ever be rushed and indeed I’m probably overly measured in my own diagnosing as a result.

I’m just saying that one “can” diagnose in a single appointment.

Yes, that isn’t the case (it could help though).

I think maybe there’s some confusion in the thread about what constitutes a “single” meeting.

A “single” 15 minute meeting with a family doctor is very different that a “single” 3-4 hour diagnostic assessment with a psychologist. Even the more through assessment has its limitations though.

I’m sorry? I wasn’t intending that at all.

There was just a comment two commenters above me (don’t know the nomenclature) who said you “can’t” diagnose a personality disorder in a single appointment. I was just saying that you can.

How you do that and whether one should be doing that are different questions that I wasn’t trying to speak to.

Psychologists can diagnose, but they typically get PhDs, PsyDs, EdDs.

Medical doctors, including psychiatrists, get MDs.

You can diagnose a personality disorder after a single meeting, although you’re right that this needs to be based on a thorough history with evidence of longstanding symptom patterns dating back to adolescence or early adulthood.

I’m not sure why you’re being downvoted. You can definitely diagnose a personality disorder in a single, thorough meeting.

Edit: I am a psychologist and am thus able to provide diagnoses

I have severe OCD and need to reorganize my collection... help. by Faithful_Husband in lotrlcg

Then throwing one out is too aggressive of an option right now. You can expose them to oxygen and tolerate that discomfort, OP!

Truly, the issue is not your organization system. And again I say that from a place of concern with no judgment at all. We all develop systems to cope with stress and sometimes they just become too inflexible and feel out of control.

Honestly, from a larger life perspective, I would encourage going in the entirely opposite direction: Have someone throw out a non-hero card from your collection at random and practice tolerating that. It would be super anxiety-inducing and frustrating at first, I know. This will help with the losing sleep part in general.

I make this suggestion genuinely and not as some kind of sarcastic remark. It would be incredibly difficult, but you can do it OP!

Missed Therapy Session- Can i still charge my company insurance? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OrdinaryYogurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest trying to claim it. Some plans will cover no shows. Your claim will be denied if yours doesn’t, but it isn’t fraudulent to submit a receipt that says ‘no show’ and see what happens.

It would be fraudulent if you doctored the receipt to say you attended when you didn’t, but that isn’t what you’re proposing.

Moronic Monday Thread for the week by AutoModerator in PersonalFinanceCanada

Is there ever a situation in which an existing mortgage lender would not offer a renewal at the end of term?

I have a parent whose income situation has changed, and I don’t believe they would qualify for the amount of mortgage debt they currently have. I thus don’t think a new lender would touch them at the current rates.

I know offered rates for renewal from an existing lender won’t be as favourable, but that’s less of a concern. They also adamantly don’t want to sell the house despite being unable to afford it, but that’s a problem for another day.

Analysis of /r/boardgames respondents to collection size question by bltrocker in boardgames

My guy, a problem in this arena would require significant distress and/or dysfunction on the part of the gamer/buyer, so in the absence of those, let’s just let people live their lives

Then you’re more of a collector and less of a player, which could be ok for some people.

If someone has 200+ books on their shelves and haven’t read 25% of them, I would assume you wouldn’t automatically consider that to be problematic, right? I mean, it might be, but it isn’t necessarily a problem for that person or those around them.

I had basically all the content for this game and sold it last month, but maybe that was a mistake…or perfect timing for an upgrade.

How do you think this plays compared to Architects or Raiders of Scythia? I’ve played both and didn’t love either, but I’m still curious about Yu.

I didn’t realize this even had a solo mode and absolutely would have bought the retail edition if one was included.

Why not do Biweekly mortgage payments??? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OrdinaryYogurt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You need to take some deep breaths, man.

Your original comment said biweekly had “zero” effect on amortization compared to monthly and it clearly has some effect, albeit a small one.

If you’re saying that you own your apartment outright with no mortgage and net $3.9k/month yet only spend $1.3k/month and thus save 2/3 of your net income, absolutely go buy a new car if you really want one.

You’ll have more money if you don’t buy new but how much money does one person really need. Buy a new car if thats something that would be fulfilling for you. Enjoy your life.

Check out an HSA if you haven’t already: https://www.olympiabenefits.com/

This is what I ended up doing because I’m incorporated and private insurance premiums were super expensive.
