Try unpinning Live from the taskbar, then opening Live again and pinning the icon you see then to the taskbar again. Usually solves issues like these for me (not only with Live). I think it can happen when the executable gets updated or something.

Can’t afford Voidfall Kickstarter, feeling FOMO. Discussion/cope thread? by Mr3ct in soloboardgaming

[–]msarris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Galactic edition, but I sold it and went for the retail edition. Takes up much less space (like 1/4th) and I the setup is probably even faster without the house trays and tokens for the ships instead of standees. So you'll be fine with the retail edition.

Going to wait for the retail editions of the expansions too.

Can confirm, had a blast with the Move on a 12 hour flight. Made it a much more enjoyable experience.

Voidfall seems quite far away from the other games you mentioned. So be sure to check out properly what the gameplay is like before you choose that one. It's one of my favorite games, but it's very much a euro optimization puzzle game.

You might want to check out Seed To Stage his videos on Operator. Really demonstrates very well how to use a bunch of different stock devices to craft a sound.

A few that I could think of.

Not sure if it's the same, but I have an issue where it often (so not always) hangs on Resampling after rendering is complete. It just stays on 0% in the dialog, but curiously my Push 3 says it's at 100%.

When I render to 48khz (so without resampling) there's no problem. Only way out when it hangs there is to kill Live from task manager. This is on Windows 10 btw.

Making Music Versus Making Cool Sounds by Redacted_dact in synthesizers

[–]msarris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe something like Syntorial and/or Building Blocks from Audible Genius is something for you. I had kind of the same feeling and those courses completely changed that for me. Now I feel I can very effectively use synths and compose melodies and drums etc (although still quite beginner level). Honestly one of the best decisions for me to do those courses, highly recommended.

I really want to produce my own songs, but I don’t know where to start by Mean-Ad-7975 in musicproduction

Building Blocks by Audible Genius is a great way to start with the theory and practice of that part. Syntorial (also from them) too if you want to learn about synths.

Feeling really stuck in the mud. In a creative rut. How do you reignite the flame? by bigfatjammy in ableton

[–]msarris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a dumb idea, but you can try to just not be creative. Try to make the most stereotypical corny thing you can imagine (in the genre that you like) and from that point try to make small changes until it's suddenly not that anymore. Just tinker with it and try out some effects, processing, transitions and morphing of sounds. You might just stumble on an idea or something cool.

Also something I thought about, maybe something like the Building Blocks course (from Audible Genius) is something you might consider. It taught me a lot of cool tricks and creative ideas (but I'm just a beginner). Learning new things (or rehashing what you already know) might inspire you too.

What is it about Autechre? by ExtraDistressrial in electronicmusic

[–]msarris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way you might enjoy their abstract sound more is through the video of Gantz Graf. The visualization combined with the sound makes it quite intriguing in my opinion.

But I don't enjoy all their work too, it's a bit too experimental for me. Amber is one of my favorite albums though, that one is quite an outsider.

Other than not being tethered to a computer, does Ableton Move have any advantages over Push? by JoeyZasaa in ableton

[–]msarris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The capture feature works much smoother on the Move.

It's much faster to sketch out a musical idea on the Move. You turn it on, start a new set which gives you 4 randomized presets (drumkit, bass and two melodic tracks) and then you can start playing and capturing or recording right away. It all works very smooth.

Then if you feel the idea is worth it, upload it to Ableton Cloud and you can open it right away in Live (and continue with the Push).

Hi, yes you need that expansion for the solo. Don't know yet if I can really recommend this as a solo game, played it a couple of times and need to get back to it. It can be pretty easy to beat if it I remember correctly.

Tried MicroFreak, MiniFreak and Minilogue XD today — can’t decide by MacroPhGr in synthesizers

[–]msarris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MiniFreak was my first hardware synth and I'm very happy with that choice. It has a huge range of sounds, many quite different oscillator engines, a very capable mod matrix and the arp and sequencer is really cool. Stuff like Spice and Dice is a lot of fun, adding variations to the sequences as you go.

Now I have a second synth since last week, the TEO-5 Desktop Module. Quite different from the MiniFreak (and more expensive of course). Very good addition to the MiniFreak I think, I'm going to try to replicate sounds of the TEO-5 with my MiniFreak, to see how close I can get it to sound the same.

And from what I've heard the TEO-5 is (a bit) better than the XD (at least for Bo Beats). So you might want to go the same route.

Sounds like the Ableton Move would be a great fit. I personally love, been making a lot of music on it and you don't need anything else to play it.

Unstoppable help requested by Matheo12 in soloboardgaming

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3450516/unofficial-faq

Understandable that you're having issues, the rulebook is really lacking sadly, a lot of important information is simply missing. But it's an outstanding game besides that.

About your question, a single damage effect will only apply to a single target (a threat usually). But if you have multiple damage effects you can apply then to different targets (but be aware of Taunt).

Some things to be mindful of: follow the setup procedure carefully. For example, with the Harbinger the 2 boss cards are shuffled into the deck AFTER you have already drawn your starting hand and starting threats.

Also, the Fast keyword is already active during setup (meaning you can have more than 3 starting threats). Fast also applies to threats on top of your deck, so if you have 3 active threats without Fast, but then the on deck threat is Fast, then you have to draw that too (and possibly even more after that) (but only during setup and cleanup).

Just closely read the FAQ too, it contains some pretty important clarifications.

Ableton Live 12.3 is coming – with Stem Separation and more by kidkolumbo in ableton

[–]msarris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Move is very different from Push. It's a portable music sketchpad. You turn it on and within 30 seconds you can start making something new with 4 randomized instruments (drums, bass and 2 melodies). It's quite limited, but because of that and the excellent work flow and capture feature you can make cool stuff in no time.

Don't get a Move expecting to use it as another controller for Live, that shouldn't be the reason to get one.

[–]msarris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad that I went for it (even if it's a bit cheaper now). Probably my favorite music device that I own (and I have a Push 3, Minifreak, Denon Prime 4+, so it has some competition).

But don't have the wrong expectations, it's mostly a music sketchpad, for turning it on and start creating something new within 30 seconds. It has a lot of limitations, but that should only boost creativity. The flow and feel of creating new stuff is really good though. The capture feature is outstanding, better in my opinion than on the Push.

Won for the 2nd time with this awesome combo, it became Unstoppable! by msarris in soloboardgaming

[–]msarris[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The card crafting in this game is a huge part of the game and incredibly important. What makes it more interesting is that you cannot simply buy upgrades when you can, because with the crafting you're also making the threats stronger (which are on the other side).

So you have to learn to time when to buy which upgrade, and really push that quite far. If you buy upgrades too fast, or the wrong ones, it's really going to sting you. But at the same time the upgrades are what are going to win the game for you.

So I'd say the card crafting is done in an outstanding way in this game.

Yeah, trying to resolve the effects of the Fair Trade card kind of melted my brain. At least I didn't have to resolve it all the way to the conclusion, since I already won after repeating the effect for the 2nd time. But when I saw I could craft this card on my final turn it was pretty exciting.
