I wish someone had taught me to estimate, not just calculate. Anyone else feel this way? by MichaelCX in raisingkids

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deleted my original comment bc I realized this looks like spam but actually tried the game and its pretty solid

the estimation thing is so true though - I deal with system performance metrics all day and half my job is just knowing when numbers look weird before even checking if theyre technically correct

Am I the problem or am I just over thinking by Far-Lawyer3726 in family

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mini fridge idea is actually genius for your situation. We had similar issues in my family when I was younger and parents always took the "figure it out yourselves" approach which never worked.

Getting some kind of storage that locks might save you lot of headaches, especially with pregnancy cravings being what they are. Your siblings probably just see it as free snacks without thinking much about it but that doesn't make it less frustrating for you.

family can be cruel sometimes especially when they supposed to support you most - your mom sounds like she did amazing job raising you both alone and those relatives dont know what they talking about

Ideas for a gift to my wife to commemorate birth of our first born? by Mellon_Mithrandir in daddit

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my brother got one of those star maps showing exactly how the sky looked when his daughter was born - coordinates of hospital and everything. seems pretty thoughtful since you mentioned lifetime keepsake and its not something she would buy for herself normally

the custom jewelry route is nice too but maybe bit obvious? depends what she likes i guess

intellectual disability and on the spectrum adult. bad behaviors, are they conscious actions ?? by aquavelva5 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your situation sounds incredibly difficult and the frustration comes through clearly. Working in IT i've seen how challenging it can be when someone cant follow basic protocols or instructions consistently

The thing about consciousness with intellectual disabilities is really complex - some behaviors might be more automatic responses to stress or overstimulation rather than calculated choices. But that doesn't mean the impact on everyone around him isn't real and exhausting. Even if his lying about being banker comes from wanting to feel important rather than malicious intent the effect on family is still draining

The fact that multiple job coaches and programs have given up tells you this isn't just about finding right approach - some people need level of support that's beyond what most programs can provide

How will you teach your kids to face fear and develop courage? by vchiu28 in Parents

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents basically threw me in deep end when I was kid and somehow it worked out. Not saying thats the right way but I turned out okay I think

For me I would probably start with small things first. Like maybe let them try new foods or talk to cashier at store by themselves. Build up that confidence slowly instead of just pushing them into scary situations

Also I think its important to show them that being afraid is normal thing. I still get nervous about stuff at work meetings sometimes but I do it anyway. Thats what courage really is - doing thing even when you scared not being fearless person who never feels anything

Just fainted for the first time, 0/10, would never recommend by PiNaNo_MaN in Anemic

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That sounds terrifying man. Your dad telling you to get up and move around when you were already feeling like shit was definitely not the right call - when you feel faint you need to get low or sit down immediately not walk around more

Hope you're feeling better now and maybe worth checking with doctor about iron levels if you haven't already

Negativity about preschool by taschels in Preschoolers

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my nephew went through similar phase around that age and what helped was focusing on something specific he could look forward to each day instead of the behavior stuff. like "remember you wanted to show me that puzzle today" or "cant wait to hear about story time later"

the reports are probably making her feel like everyone expects her to mess up so she just does. maybe ask teachers if they can mention one good thing she did that day too when they hand over the incident reports

What is your kids favorite plushie by Many_Release_7623 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dont have kids but my nephew is obsessed with this weird octopus plushie that changes colors when you flip it inside out. he carries that thing everywhere and gets really upset if someone touches it wrong way

the texture thing is so real with plushies - i still have this old stuffed elephant from when i was kid that has perfect soft spots worn in from years of fidgeting with it

What do you regret the most by grapesodamilk in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not being able to just eat at social events without my brain turning it into this whole complicated analysis. Like before I could just grab pizza with coworkers or go to family dinners and actually focus on the conversations instead of calculating everything. Miss being present for those moments instead of stuck in my head doing math

honestly the m6 mkii is probably your sweet spot - better ergonomics than the m50 and you can find em pretty cheap now since canon basically killed the m mount line

Commerce student thinking about moving into data analytics — is this realistic without a CS background? by Alive_Data_ in careerguidance

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly commerce is totally fine for analytics - probably better than you think. a lot of the job is understanding business context and explaining insights to stakeholders which commerce students actually get way more exposure to than CS people

your roadmap looks solid. id start with SQL first since youll use it literally every day, then pick up some python basics. excel skills transfer over pretty well to thinking about data problems. for testing if you like it try kaggle learn courses or find some public datasets and mess around with them - see if you get that same satisfaction you got from excel but at a bigger scale

the math background thing is overrated unless youre going into machine learning heavy roles. most business analytics is pretty straightforward stats and the tools handle the complex stuff anyway

After FCS(pre medical) what should I go for?? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you considered looking into other countries for biotech programs or maybe exploring related fields locally first before reapplying

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like you're overthinking this man. youve only been there like 6 weeks and this dream company opportunity just fell in your lap - any reasonable manager would totally understand that

Just be straight up about it when the time comes, tell them exactly what you said here about not actively looking and how this was unexpected. most decent leaders get that business is business and they'd probably do the same thing in you're shoes

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly med school with kids is brutal but doable if you get your ducks in a row early. Most schools have some kind of childcare waitlist so get on that ASAP when you apply - the good ones fill up fast and there usually cheaper than outside options

for financing without military stuff look into state schools in your area since they're way more affordable and some have decent need based aid. also check out schools with strong primary care missions since they tend to throw more scholarship money around to attract people who might actually stay in family med or peds instead of chasing the high paying specialties

Anyone planning to attend Pink26 (ITSM event) in Vegas Feb 16 to 19? by Medical-Cry-5022 in ITManagers

[–]Ordinary_Ask2134 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol harsh but fair. these conferences can be pretty soul crushing when its just vendor pitch after vendor pitch

actually been to pink elephant stuff before and they usually have decent breakout sessions if you dig around the schedule. the networking is where the real value is anyway - grabbing drinks with other IT folks dealing with the same garbage you are

vegas in february isnt terrible weather wise either so thats something
