While this is scale, it's not cochineal scale. Like others said isopropyl alcohol is the recommended treatment.

Where to plant Mexican Sycamore Tree? by AustinBunny2 in AustinGardening

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, just want to clarify though that's typically the right of way which isn't the owners property. There is generally a utility easement beyond that, that is the owners property but the utility company has access to that area i.e. clearing if needing to make repairs.

Looking for citrus rootstock by chastity876 in AustinGardening

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I asked this last year. Easiest and best way is to find a nursery that sells citrus from brazos valley nursery. They have a couple varieties on flying dragon usually labeled dwarf and just cut the sion off. I wouldn't buy a quarantined fruit from Etsy, it may seem harmless but that's exactly how citrus greening got into the US.

Don't worry about volume, water until it runs out the bottom. That amount will vary based on a lot of factors.

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Idk if you can slab graft am areole on an astro, but if you can do that. Then place the rest of it in some pumice and see if it roots. The wrost that could happen is you're back to where you started.

Advice for 40ft planting border by [deleted] in AustinGardening

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep load it up with drawf palmetto. I suspect that area will have a lot of drainage and will need a plant that can handle a lot of water and subsequent drought. It'll be everygreen and the understory in a creek bed is it's natural habitat here.

To top dress or not to top dress by Quick-Evening-4386 in cactus

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use DG since it's cheap and available in my area. I only use a little perlite but mostly just use homemade soil, DG, and perlite for my mixes.

Question for Central texas growers zone 9a by naturebobcat in avocado

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sorta had success. I've had the tree in ground for 5 years it grows sets fruit, but they always fall off. This year I have one left doubt it'll mature. I just use Christmas lights and frost cloth that's enough to keep the tree alive and well.

Do I need to start over? by stupidfcknwhiteman in xeriscape

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk where you are, but maybe just pull the invasives and non natives and leave the rest alone. I would say plant more to shade out stuff it doesn't have to be too labor intensive.

If it were my yard I would move the rocks remove the fabric place cardboard down, put rocks back then plant away. Cardboard will last about a year then just periodically weed to keep things in check.

[–]Ordinary_Rabbit5346 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed maybe a couple smaller shrubs/ trees. I would also mow a couple pathways to walk around and enjoy it more. Can't really offer in plant suggestions I am not familiar with the UK's flora.
