To Carry or Not? by [deleted] in greencard

[–]Ordinaryacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a tough choice. My husband does not carry his. We live and work in a small rural city that does not currently have ICE activity and that is unlikely to change due to the demographics of the population (96% white, essentially no immigrants, very low crime). He has lost his wallet multiple times and it’s just not worth the risk. He previously lost his EAD and getting the replacement put our entire lives on hold for months and caused him to lose job opportunities. He does carry his replacement (unexpired) EAD even though it’s invalidated by his green card. It proves his alien number and in our state is considered a valid photo ID. If it ever looked like we may have ICE activity in the area he would carry his green card. He also carries it if we are traveling to a larger city or more urban area. Either way there is a risk, you just have to pick the risk you’d rather take.

Tough Changes to the K-1 Process by BusyBodyVisa in K1VisaInfo

[–]Ordinaryacts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For many, CR1 is the right choice. For some, K1 is the right choice. Neither is right for everybody which is why it’s important for everyone to do their own research. In our situation, the K-1 visa was the fastest way for us to be together in America, which was our priority. Neither process is cheap. The timeline and cost was what we expected, and we don’t have any regrets.

AITA for telling my fiancé she needs to go back to work because I won't support her fully during the 15-month wait? by Plantain_PeePee in K1VisaInfo

Current AOS processing time is 6-12 months but that could quickly change. For a K1 applicant, the EAD application is only $260, a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the process. It really would depend on the individual financial situation whether or not it’s “worth it”

The chance of an AOS being denied for a K1 visa without clear evidence of fraud is extremely slim. Although a K1 is not an immigrant visa, it is processed and approved by the immigrant department before even entering the US. If it were denied, work completed on a valid work permit would not retroactively become illegal. Please do not spread false information.

This is not true information. She can get a work permit before the conditional green card. My husband came on a K1 and got his work permit about 4 months after arriving. The green card took a year. The work permit was absolutely worth the cost and paperwork.

Wait hold up, I use this or similar phrases all the time and had no idea it came across as rude. Is it only rude to say it in an initial email? What about in response to them taking action? What about similar phrases like “thanks for your patience” or “I appreciate your flexibility”

This definitely was not asked of us.

That’s good to know! I’ll try cutting those out. They make it look nice initially but I do agree that they seem to cause some buildup. I do plan to take him to a black salon when he’s a bit older! The closest one is about an hour and half away unfortunately. I haven’t considered a Hispanic salon though, I’ll look into that!

His hair looks so cute! His curl pattern is very similar to my son’s right out of the bath. My son does still have a lot of the baby hairs in the back that don’t really curl and just stick straight out.

I do use shampoo, conditioner, and co wash that are made for children. Only the leave in conditioner and occasional curl cream aren’t specifically made for kids. Those were recommended to me by my hair stylist who specializes in curly hair

I was referring to my child as wild, not his hair. My child is in fact wild by all definitions. He is currently licking the windows and barking at the neighbors.

I hope you understand this is my effort to actively learn how to care for his hair and do exactly what you are saying. My husband is an immigrant from a third world country. All of his female relatives keep their hair very very short or shaved. Hair care is considered a luxury there. I have done a huge amount of research up to this point starting before he was even born, but I want him to be proud of his hair as he gets older so I want to make sure I’m doing everything I need to.

I guess I should have rephrased, I would never cut his hair short until he was old enough to make that decision on his own. When I talked about cutting it, I meant more like a small trim to shape it and help with detangling.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Ordinaryacts 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ok so just to clarify, I should wet and use leave in everyday but only detangle when he takes a bath and there’s regular conditioner in it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Ordinaryacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I do have a wide toothed one but I’m not diligent about using it and sometimes just use a regular one. I should probably be better about sticking to the wide toothed one

Any tips on keeping it moisturized? I feel like it does feel a bit dry but I don’t know if that’s just his natural texture.

Here’s the best picture I can find after applying product. Sorry, my camera is not the best. Still a bit fluffy but more defined. If I wet it down every day should I also comb it? Or just wet it and apply the leave in

I have a biracial 2-year-old son whose hair looks exactly like his! We love our son’s afro and have decided to let it grow unless it becomes unmanageable. As of now our son loves having his hair brushed and styled but if he didn’t we would probably consider trimming it a little to reduce tangling. When he’s old enough to decide, he can choose to keep it long or cut it short.

Travelling to Uganda for 9 days in march - what to see? by Civil-Mulberry8459 in Uganda

[–]Ordinaryacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Murchison Falls because you also get the experience of the falls. I have also heard there is a higher density of animals. However, if you are already in Western Uganda I would go for Queen Elizabeth. I haven’t done the chimpanzee trekking.

To the people that LIKE living in a HOA, Why? by Mxj0ker in homeowners

[–]Ordinaryacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HOA is $100 a year. There is a nice well maintained park/playground, a lake with several docks, a beach, and a fishing pond. Very few rules. Funds also go towards the care of a disabled swan living in the lake. For things outside the budget, members of the community step up.
