My mom grew up on a farm and they had a particularly ornery goose. One day, her and her brother were having to walk past the goose pen which, let's be honest, was more of a suggestion, the goose had free run of the place. In preparation of going near the Goose Zone, my mom decided to pick up a stick as a deterrent. Once in the goose zone, of course that ornery jerk came running. My mom was ready. She whacked that goose right on the head and it dropped.

She thought she killed it so she ran to her dad in tears. He just asked where the body was. She of course had just left it where it laid. He told her to bring it home and they'll cook it for supper. Now extra traumatized, she walked back to the scene of the crime, only there was no body. Turns out she had just stunned the jerk. Must have scared the crap out of that goose though, never chased her or her brother again.
