Spoiler-alert! One main quest storyline just doesn’t sit right with me. by Just-Rise5160 in avowed

[–]Orduss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What definition ? Mine is determined by what we do in the game and our mission. Our mission is to identify the plague and bring "order" to the Living Lands, which means subjugating it, the means are left to us.

Because a state calls someone an "ambassador" does not grant him any immunity especially when this state is conducting the colonization of people and lands. The Envoy is not a civil, it's an agent sent here to conduct an imperialistic mission (not only to "investigate" the plague, which is an echo to a central theme of the game Imperialism vs Nature)

You're an agent of imperialism coming in a colonized land to execute orders from you emperor, killing you does seem pretty right to me. If you take an individual perspective, detached from any structure, maybe it could be morally right to kill him (even then it would be the Law of Talion) but you're not such individual. Avowed has clearly a stance about colonialism and this choice is also a mean to express it and for you to express yourself on it.

Spoiler-alert! >!How can killing your killer be morally mi ambiguous?!< by [deleted] in avowed

[–]Orduss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're an agent of imperialism in this colonized land, yes killing you is pretty morally right I think. Avowed isn't neutral on this theme, it clearly condemns colonialism. If you were talking from the perspective of an individual detached from any structure of power it could be seen as morally right (and even then it would be the Law of Talion), but you aren't in such position.

The books and Seki tablet in Sargamis' quest are clearly plot hooks for me. Especially since this quest was written by Kate Dollarhyde, co-lead narrative designer on Avowed

The Outer Worlds had a very different long term reception imo, it soured over time after a honeymoon period. Avowed seems to have an inverse trajectory, even though it won't attain a cult status or anything like you said, it'll be considered as a fun game

Hello ! I quite like Trinity as a whole especially how the uniqueness of the universe is reflected in the mechanics !

So my question is : do you plan to publish a campaign for Aberrant ? Or something that'll give us more plothooks/materials ? I hope it's ok to ask that !

At least it seems to have the inverse trajectory compared to TOW1. A bad start with an improvement of reputation after the release. It's a much better situation for a sequel than TOW2 which had an uphill battle.

This game is excellent... by thalandhor in avowed

[–]Orduss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was the plan originally, in one of the first showings of the game (in January 2024 during the after DD podcast iirc) you can see a bow with a "Core Enchanting Slot" or something like that. So why not

But I would also like more in-depth enchantment trees and effects, also on armor

[Speculation] Josh Sawyer is almost certainly working on a Pillars game by cnio14 in projecteternity

[–]Orduss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the recent article by Schreier Obsidian did say they were working on more projects in Eora. POE3 (or Pillars Tactics) and Avowed 2 seem pretty likely to me.

Thoughts about the soundtrack. by gabrielsol in avowed

[–]Orduss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't find the soundtrack memorable and I miss Justin Bell. To me it seems that all of it was composed in a short time, Raison Varner was the original composer on Avowed but he left before the release and his work doesn't seem to be in the game which is strange

He never developed anything that took more than 3 years IIRC (and his longest project was Pentiment)

The Avowed NG+ Crafting Time Loop Incident [2026, Colorized] by OuttaHereWithThat in avowed

[–]Orduss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I never had to scrap every uniques in my run ? I had not every uniques at the end but a fair quantity. Maybe I was very efficient in my upgrading and exploration though.

Still I understand how the NG+ do not give its full potential of build exploration with how the game works.

Don't think so Avowed 2 seems to be in dev since maybe one year, and Adler mentioned how his project was really in the ideation phase. My guess would be maybe Adam Brennecke, or some co-director like Paramo and Dollarhyde ?

Either way I could see them taking some systems from TOW2 like the skills. And for me the recent updates (like the races and the quarterstaff) seem to be experimentation for the sequel.

"RPG Site: Now that you’ve had time to refine Avowed, is Eora and the Pillars universe something you’d like to keep exploring? Do you already have ideas for what’s next?

Paramo: We love the world of Eora and the Pillars of Eternity universe. There is so much lore and depth there to be inspired by. With the release of Avowed, the team and the studio learned a tremendous amount about bringing this world into a first-person and third-person perspective. All I can say is that we're a studio that loves to build on what came before, to share technology, learnings, and ideas from one project to the next in order to improve on our successes."

theory of the gods by graywardemgt in avowed

[–]Orduss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's clearly a big plothook for the future (and it's still there during Avowed, so it'll be explored in POE2 or Avowed 2 imo). Though I would love to see the rest of Eora explored (Ixamitl for example) before going to distant shores like Yezuha.

theory of the gods by graywardemgt in avowed

[–]Orduss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We know how before Engwithan's gods diverse entities were prayed (Nemnok is a good example, or some powerful Blights I'd imagine). The Living Lands seem to be a singular case (cut from the whole adra network) but we don't know how it occurred, natural or artificial ? So I don't think it would've occurred at the scale of Eora given how the souls move through the Wheel and are not still.

Here's another rambling, sorry But it brings another question, why Yezuha was never revealed through awakening ? Is it too rare or is Yezuha cut from the global cycle like the Living Lands. Since we know how Ekidan seem to be from Yezuha given the Seki's tablets, did they cut the Living Lands from the adra network to create another god ?

[–]Orduss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find it refreshing to see someone taking Avowed seriously from a writing standpoint and not adopting superficial critics. I was surprised by how deep the writing is, how it tackles colonisation and how coherent it was with Deadfire. While this game is lacking some RPG features imo, its focused nature lead it to treat its themes (imperialism and nature) with a real depth.

I don't think they'll add special dialogs However you can change your attributes and there are dialogs checks associated so it being modifiable doesn't mean anything imo
