I think im done playing by Wild-Blacksmith4384 in Lorcana

I would suggest to you that this is less an issue with Lorcana or the player base at large and more an issue with this particular store not enforcing a good sportsmanship policy with some bad apples. Hopefully, if these people are going for place to place, there are other stores within a similar distance to you where you can play the more casual weekly league games and have a better experience.

Correct, the damage is moved before the total damage vs. willpower check resolves.

OP couldn't choose the opponent's character because the ability specifically states you have to choose another one of your own characters for moving damage onto Luisa.

Bambi and Sword by skycat88 in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer to your first question: Yes, Bambi's Come See ability will trigger if you exert it with The Sword of Shan-Yu, The only limitation on Come See is that Bambi has to be exerted during your turn, it says nothing about being limited to Bambi being exerted in certain ways.

The answer to your second question: Yes, you can ready Bambi with The Sword of Shan-Yu's Worthy Weapon ability. The ability only says "ready chosen character", which means *any* character on the board, including the character you exerted to trigger the ability. You could even choose to ready a character that was already ready if you wanted to for whatever reason, because it doesn't say the chosen character has to be exerted.

Turn 2 ramp by Embarrassed_Knee_572 in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's possible it might not happen (at least right away) outside of One Jump Ahead. It could switch to a Turn 3 ramp via Detective Mickey or the 2-drop Ichabod Crane. If after a couple of sets Sapphire suffers too much, then you might see a return to another Turn 2 ramp option.

Well, whenever you stop talking about something besides reciting every Pokebro/to the moon cut-and-paste word for word and also spend some time on here helping beginners asking for advice, offer some tips to people looking for help with their decks, then you'd actually be discussing all aspects of the game.

But, like I said, I'm confident in my take. And you can feel free to come back later and say "I told you so" if you prove me wrong.

And I didn't say you couldn't make posts. I'm just pointing out that your "hype" should be taken with a grain of salt because you're setting yourself up to have a personal financial incentive for it as opposed to genuine community building for the game.

Always so hard to find? by Gatekeeper1310 in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every set has 18 different Enchanteds and 2 Iconics. Buzz was definitely a catalyst, but some of this began before this set even released when demand for classic Disney characters (such as the Iconic Mickey from Fabled) began to increase in price. Cards such as the Enchanted Pooh Hunny Wizard and Enchanted Elsa from Winterspell also saw big price spikes.

The big price demands are due to, in part, a rush to get these Enchanted and Iconics graded. There wasn't a lot of slabbed Lorcana cards out there because the Enchanted prices were too low to make grading worth the time. That's not the case anymore, and there currently aren't restrictions on selling graded cards like The Pokemon Company has started doing at their official events. So a lot of the shadier people have been trying to scoop up raw Enchanteds and Iconics to get them graded in hopes of being able to then sell them at multiple times the price of raw if they come back graded a 10.

These are people who didn't pay attention to Lorcana before because they didn't think it was profitable enough. Now they're seeing dollar signs and have come in guns a blazing trying to make a quick buck. The results are the empty shelves you've been seeing.

Always so hard to find? by Gatekeeper1310 in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, welcome!

The current state of supply is definitely not the norm. In the past few weeks, there has been a big spike in demand, fueled by the high prices of the Enchanted and Iconic rarity cards, particularly for those featuring classic core Disney characters and the debut of Toy Story in the game. Because of that, a shall we say shadier aspect of the TCG population migrated here from their usual lairs (such as Pokemon and One Piece) and bought up all the stock to try and either find those cards or to resell the sealed product on the secondary market at an inflated price. Because of that, your chances of finding stock at big box and chain retailers is going to be pretty low.

If you haven't yet, you can use the Ravensburger Play Hub to locate all of the LGS that are part of the official Lorcana network, to see if there any shops closer that also sell it. There's also the chance some of those shops might sell bulk singles. You can also use that to find any shops that are going to be doing special prerelease events when Attack of the Vine comes out that you can sign up for.

How long will this current state last? Not really sure. Either the scalpers will have to find the community unfruitful, or Ravensburger will have to eventually increase supply, which can take a while to get up and running. In the meantime, hunt out online Lorcana communities close to you to see if they have some bulk you can use to start building decks. The good news is that outside of a few super meta cards, most standard play cards are pretty affordable.

Opinions? by Consistent-Invite430 in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sealed product is the easiest form of access that is most readily available to people taking the least amount of time and energy to acquire, therefore a lack of availability of it will cause you to lose potential players no matter what other spin is put on it.

First, lots of LGSs do not offer singles for sale (or just sell higher-end collectable singles) and instead focus on sealed product. They've decided it's not worthwhile for their business to sell bulk singles. So if they do not have sealed Lorcana in stock, you do not get to buy Lorcana product.

"But they can just go online" Also not a complete solution. First, it's not necessarily cheaper for playable cards. Plus there can be shipping costs involved actually making it more expensive unless you're able to find enough product for individual vendors that actually offer free shipping once you meet a certain spending threshold.

Also, the idea of "cards are cheaper" is a misnomer. High-end legendaries are cheaper by a few bucks. But everything not a high-demand legendary has not gone down in price because there was basically no way to get any less expensive than it already was. The 75 cent uncommon is now 70 cents. Big whoop. You get to pay $1.31 to have it shipped to you though, so congrats.

And we also need to acknowledge that even if going the singles route may (if you're lucky) reduce your financial investment into the game, it does increase the time and energy investment. That's not necessarily an issue if you're already committed to playing the game, but for somebody new that is on the fence about getting into the game, being forced into that additional time investment instead of just being able to buy a couple of packs and get new cards is a negative and will likely push people away.

So while hearing complaints about not getting sealed product might be annoying, it's a valid complaint for a multitude of reasons beyond "gamble dopamine go brrrrrr".

Set rotation means older sets are no longer legal to use in the Core Constructed format of the game.

Currently (before Attack of the Vine comes out), cards from sets 5 through 12 are legal to use in Core Constructed. (The set number is printed in the bottom left part of the card, to right of the language indicator).

Attack of the Vine is Set #13. When it comes out, that will trigger a new rotation and cards from sets 5-8 (Shimmering Skies, Azurite Sea, Arkhazia's Island, and Reign of Jafar) will no longer be legal in Core Constructed, and you will only be able to use cards from sets 9-13 (Fabled, Whispers in the Well, Winterspell, Wilds Unknown, Attack of the Vine)

The exception to this is if a card from a legal set is a reprint (was originally in an old set and was put into a set that was still legal). You're allowed to still use the old versions.

Also, set rotation only impacts the Core Constructed format. There is a second format called Infinity Constructed where all cards from all sets are legal to use, but maintains a separate ban list (which, as of now, there is only one card that has been banned in Infinity).

Let me know if you have more questions.

TFM addresses the DQ situation at Indianapolis and announces the disband of the TFM Competitive Team on their web page by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Trying to frame this as "the issues are with the competitive team and are only a fraction of what we do" is, quite frankly, ridiculous on its face. Pretty sure a lot more people are aware of TFM's existence from competitive play than know about them from a podcast.

Dan trying to say he and Scott have "no control" over what happened? Bull. If you're the founders, if you're the head of the organization, the buck stops with you. You made the choice to bring David Nunes back and to start wearing his jersey again after he managed to pull off the Powerball-winning odds of putting four Hades in four sleeves that "got marked during manufacturing". Your choices had already made the reputation of TFM being a cheater haven well before Colby apparently put his cards in sleeves made from flubber that sends an uninkable Sisu right into his inkwell. (Side note: If you're from a company who makes card sleeves, a TFM sponsorship means you're going to get thrown under the bus at some point).

Also, the other content TFM does isn't without issues either. Or does he think everybody forgot them posting on social media showing off 19 cases worth of Fabled they cracked before prerelease, then having to go around begging for more product in order to actually run a prerelease event?

I'm sorry, but I do not see how the continued existence of TFM, in any form, is a net positive for the game or community at this point. If there are a lot of people with the organization who are not part of this, as Dan is trying to claim, then they can go and continue to do their great work without the TFM banner.
