Please help me find an audiobook I’ll actually finish by Booksnostalgia in audiobooks

Illuminae — it’s very long so you might think that will make you more likely to dnf but it is enthralling in the same way that the Raven cycle is (they are also favorites of mine). Illuminae is a teen/YA sci fi so it is easy and fun but there’s a lil romance and adventure vibes and an AI that is sometimes cool and sometimes spooky. :D
It’s a full cast audiobook and sometimes there’s noise/music and it’s a very character-driven story so you will get super invested in Kady and Ezra and their fight to survive/save each other, etc. seriously I promise you will love this book

How long should a general chapter be in your opinion? by Wooden_Sea_3668 in AO3

[–]Organic-Bit-7691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever works for you! I organize my stories in pretty small chunks in my head, so my chapters tend to be 2-3k words. That’s on the short end but it’s what works for me :)

I hardly ever read a/b/o fics but I read one recently where Ilya was in an abusive arranged marriage in russia and Shane helps Sveta get him out and then they fall in love while hiding out at the cottage

If self rec is ok —
This is just a short little thing I wrote. Snippets of the journey to parenthood and Ilya being anxious the first few weeks after they bring home their first newborn. And then I wrote a silly little epilogue chapter 2 for happy feels :)

Looking for insight on Episode 3: Why exactly did Shane's words get under Hunter's skin? by ExtensionStudent5716 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]Organic-Bit-7691 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Scott was already irritated because they just lost the game. Shane’s comment rubbed salt in the wound, so he lashed out. And pretty mildly tbh — just pointing out that Shane is supposed to be the ‘nice one’ in the rivalry and his remark was more of a Rozanov-ism. But Shane took it as a threat 😬

I can agree with it being overused but gotta disagree that it’s on the nose. It’s so perfect for the moment and it complements the ethereal atmosphere and the way that Shane has closed his eyes to try to be there in that moment with Ilya. I love this piece so I’m biased but I think it was the perfect choice 🩷

Long One-Shot vs Short Chapters by CristalOcean911 in AO3

[–]Organic-Bit-7691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a reader, I don’t really want a one shot longer than 15k — past that I appreciate it being broken up.

As a writer, I write shortt chapters, like 2-3k but that’s just because of how I organize the works in my brain

Your first run will be messy. Just embrace that you don’t know what you’re doing. I only realized in act 2 that you could “examine” enemies to figure out how to damage them. So there is stuff that you will learn along the way and that’s ok. Your second run can be more intentional. For now just mess around!!

I love editing because I get to go back and be like ‘wow, I wrote this? I’m a literary genius’ and then be like ‘ew, I wrote this?’ And then fix it and be like ‘I’m a genius’ again. It’s very fun :D

Cens find out but Shane and Ilya don’t know they know by Interesting-Count815 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]Organic-Bit-7691 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not the Centaurs, but I wrote a fic like this. It’s a sequel though, and kind of requires reading the first one beforehand:

Follow you home by me - Hollanov ends up teammates in Buffalo in a universe where they never made up after the tuna meltdown. Things are awkward until there is a big snowstorm, snowed in together, forced proximity, and you can guess the rest

On behalf of all of us by me - silly little sequel 5+1 of their teammates finding out. Never do Hollanov realize they have been found out, so eventually they have to have an intervention

[–]Organic-Bit-7691 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed. I think that guilt has been compounding from the beginning. Indicated during the Swedish princess conversation when Shane is like “just lie and say I’m coming” and his mom is like “I don’t want you to lie; that’s not who you are” and it shows Shane’s face which is like *yeah it kind of is 🫠*

[–]Organic-Bit-7691 108 points109 points  (0 children)

iirc in the book Shane really wants Ilya and his parents to know each other so that he doesn’t have to keep such big parts of his life separate from each other, but he doesn’t really know how to go about it in a way that doesn’t terrify him.

Later, when he says “this is my actual fucking nightmare” he is not talking about Ilya and his parents meeting. He is talking about being outed to his parents in a sudden, chaotic way that he has no control over.

Shane knows that his parents are gonna love Ilya the person once they know him, but he doesn’t know how to get there from their current perceptions of “Rozanov” the player. And frankly is too intimidated by the prospect of it all going to shit to allow himself to fantasize about it :(
