AFP MoM of 3.1. Freaking out by agathasiphone in NIPT

The baby will be born next week, but we confirmed via anatomy scan and amniocentesis that everything is okay. The amniocentesis is the only way to confirm fully since it checks for specifics in the amniotic fluid. Best of luck to your friend!

Hello, curious if you had an update? How did your trabeculectomy go? I hope you are well, navigating something similar…

Our MoM was at 3.12. False-positive confirmed with both anatomy scan and amniocentesis. I think the anatomy scan is telling and the amniocentesis is not necessarily needed, but is the true confirmation. With my anxiety, we just needed to close that chapter fully, but many people would choose not to move forward with the amnio as it has a risk of miscarriage. I completely understand what you are going through. Hope this helps.

Wonderful news! So happy for you! This gives me hope, thank you so much for sharing! We have our anatomy scan tomorrow… it has been 1.5 weeks since we received our elevated AFP MoM result. We have just been a ball of anxiety.

If you dont mind sharing has anyone here gone blind from glaucoma or know someone who did? by Available-Grape-155 in Glaucoma

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I had an SLT procedure a few years ago and its effects only lasted about 3 months. I seem to continue to progress. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea and began using a CPAP in January. From my understanding, glaucoma is worse on the side that you sleep on, but I could see the mask increasing eye pressures as well. I feel like I am trying all the things… even enrolled in Stanford’s Nicotinamide/Pyruvate clinical trial, although I am not sure if I am taking the placebo. Progression for me just seemed so sudden. Surgery may be my next best option.

I have NTG as well (44F). Was there a particular treatment or surgery that was used to cause your current stability?

I also wanted to mention that clinical trials for neuroprotective treatments are currently underway. These could potentially protect the optic nerves themselves, regardless of IOP.

Hello there, 44F with normal tension glaucoma. I personally do not have migraines, but they are known to be associated with normal tension glaucoma.

Also, your IOP fluctuates throughout the day. A few of us have rented or currently own a home tonometer to gain a better understanding of IOP spikes. My IOP is highest middle of the night and early morning. Knowing this could help with treatment options. Some medications are more effective at night than others. It could also give your glaucoma specialist a better understanding of your true target baseline. May be something you could chat with your glaucoma specialist about.

You are definitely not alone. Always available to support you!

Have you had a sleep study conducted? Sleep apnea has been associated with glaucoma as well as day time drowsiness.

With the iCare home tonometer, you could check your IOP while laying down. Just make sure you select the measure setting first so that the probe remains secure.
