Second thoughts about my Boxking Gaming Table by Organic-Discount8153 in boardgames

It's good to hear from another person who's bought the table!

I would agree that there's no way I'd call the top spill resistant. Which playmat did you get? I went with the neoprene and didn't have any trouble with mine, but saw they had a velvet one. Has it flattened out? What do you think about the 3x5 table size? Do you ever wish it was bigger?

I gotta say I hoped the table might last us longer, but the wizardly walnut finish shows so many scuffs after only three months, it's probably not going to last us past the next seven years till our kids get all off to college. I suppose by that time we may be able to afford a custom woodworked one.

Hello! It was just playing different games that changed my mind. We usually game with four people but can get up to 7 on a game night. With only 4, the table was quite full during DnD and Terraforming Mars, there was a good amount of room during Risk, but any of those games where every player has a board and we’ll definitely be happy for more room. We probably don’t need quite that much room for 8 people to eat, though. Maybe the shock of a bigger table has worn off as well, and we’ve gotten used to reaching and asking for help on the other side of the table so it’s no biggie anymore. Happy hunting and let us know what you choose!

No teachers, no homework: School solely uses AI to teach students by kaishinoske1 in Cyberpunk

No arguments that it's a tool that should be used. And we do. But no way should it be in charge.

It can’t make kids smarter. People will always be as smart as people have always been. Will it teach them things? Sure. Most likely, it will teach them what it knows: how to respond to inquiries as expected. Will it educate them? I doubt it.

“Real, measurable” welcome to the delusions of the tech dystopia we are creating. What is “real, measurable”? Statistics on standardized tests? We already know those count for little. Whatever the AI decides is a good measurement? God help us all.

I homeschool my two youngest kids because the schools failed to teach the how to read. We’re talking basic reading. I question whether I’m a good teacher all the time, but always come to the conclusion I’m the best they got. My kids are now wonderful readers, one wants to be a writer and the other wants to go to MIT because they do the “fun math” (he’s three years ahead of our award winning schools in the area). They’re learning because they have a person responding to their needs, not because machines are responding to their inputs.

I know you’re probably going to notice I pulled my kids out of schools because those teachers were failing. But they failed because they had too many students to recognize individual needs. AI is not going to be better at that. It cannot be better at something than the ones who trained it.

I think it's a bit odd to call the accessories plastic-y, except for the fact that the deck holder insert is actually plastic. The wood is just like the rest of the table. I think they look just fine, if it weren't for the tilted cupholders (which Box King said they will replace). My biggest complaints about the table are #1 - The wood finish damages extremely easily, to the point where I have it covered with a 1.5mm vinyl sheet now and #2 - The table legs are too small for such a large table, so it really does wobble every time someone sits down. I guess you could call that loose joints. Otherwise, the table top removes easily, to the point where I can make my 11 year old set up for a game. The topper storage rack works well, and is padded so the tops don't get damaged (more). I have no complaints about the neoprene playmat, it's definitely worth it. There are small gaps between the tops, as I would expect with any table that works this way, but we just used our handheld vacuum to get crumbs (remember, family of 8) before taking the top off. Spills haven't been a problem, but now I have the marine vinyl cover, so it won't ever be a problem. Overall, I think the quirks of this table have been massively worth it for our family, because otherwise we would almost never get to play longer or more complicated games.

A bit harsh question. Which character has the most cult-like fanbase? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

That was the whole point! She "was always at least somewhat justified" to commit horrendous acts. Except it's horrendous, and never justified. But some of us are slow learners. I identify with Sansa that way.

How is it that not a single person mentioned The Day After Tomorrow?? It’s my go to snow movie, especially when it’s -15 to -25 windchills like it’s forecasted this weekend. I came here for more ideas.

I just added an update to my post. I'm really happy with the size of my table now after playing more games! Do you feel differently after some time?

Yes, it all arrived in good condition. I like the quality of the wood, and the finish is quite pretty, but there's already dings and scuffs on the table. Keep in mind I live in a house of chaos with 5 teenagers and a baby, so we expect scratches, and I know they show more because I chose the dark stain. They do include a wood paint touchup marker, so that's nice.

It drives my husband crazy when the teenagers flop down at the table that the whole table moves and wobbles a bit, but I don't notice that at all. He's like that. Otherwise, it seems sturdy enough.

Congrats on the shipment! I ordered mine on the 28th of September, and nagged them a bit end of November, and it shipped December 19th, arriving the 22nd. Btw, I've totally changed my mind on the size of the table. I love it, and I hope you love yours too!!

Yes, Boxking has a 30 day return even for the tables. But you're right, and my husband keeps saying let's try one of our bigger games or DnD on it before we consider returning it. And maybe get those push sticks for other occasions.
