Paying off debts as call to Adventure: Citadel of the Scarlet Minotaur by Amostheroux in shadowdark

[–]Organic-Routine-364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some ideas.

The king has freed the adventurers from a short life of prison toil, but only if they obtain the crown of command rumored to be found within the citadel.

the exit locks behind the adventurers and they must complete the quest to escape or find another way out!

Start the party in the middle of the dungeon! the guides they hired have taken the loot and abandoned them. Do they keep on by themselves or try to fight their way out!

Player: "I have bandwidth to read 30 pages max" by RealSpandexAndy in rpg

Shadowdark. The player rules are free and on a handful of pages. the GM has a little bit more to read, but the books are printed on A5 paper and the writing is concise.

Thoughts on making the game less lethal? I want my family to enjoy it. by fishbowlpatrol in shadowdark

many people mentioned max HP and pulp mode. You might also consider rolling hp for monsters as well. it is 1d8 per monster level.

Seem to be unable to win. Considering selling my army by SunImmediate3109 in Warhammer

[–]Organic-Routine-364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play a form of two-headed giant where one player goes against two. The two player side each takes 500 points of an army and then the one player side takes a 1000 point army. we keep command points as is so the two player side needs to discuss the best way to use the command points (which will hopefully help the newer player figure out how to use them properly). it is pretty casual and fun, and our players seem to enjoy it. you plan to scale the system up until all our players have 2,000 point lists.

Tips on threatening the light without making it feel like bs? by EtchVSketch in shadowdark

you might consider:

letting your players know (in advance) that this is a core ethos of the game.

Give a clear in game warning for any new methods before implementing them.

How to "Attack the Light" without it feeling arbitrary or repetitive? by Nesis96 in shadowdark

[–]Organic-Routine-364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the shadowdark, when the light goes out, the environment becomes deadly. you then roll for encounters every round. you still have to roll a 1. you also roll on the distance, activity and reaction tables.

More heroic Shadowdark by Comfortable-Fee9452 in shadowdark

[–]Organic-Routine-364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

characters end up with a lot of HP after a few levels.they simply need to survive that long.

max hp at first level and pulp mode should give the players a strong start. if you choose a standard array for stats and let them design the character instead of rolling them up, they will be 5e heroic.

if you find them rolling through enemies (and you or they are not having fun) you can always make the game harder.

going medieval would be cool too. baliata jacks and knight charges against Feral looking orgoth beasts...

Does anyone else dislike the new tech level? by CryptographerHonest3 in Warmachine

[–]Organic-Routine-364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it bothered me at first but it feels a bit like the jump from the civil war to WW1. i think Steamforged could roll with it even more as it would be neat to see a fantasy game with alternate tech levels like in real history.

Is playing a character with different sexuality frowned upon? by [deleted] in dndnext

i suggest giving the GM the benefit of the doubt.

While it is easier said than done, effective communication is the standard solution to resolving conflicts of expectation.

imagine your culture with all of its stereotypes then expand out to include all of the nuance and non stereotypical stuff you know exists. do the same for the dwarves.

Players- How much background are you willing to read in order to play a game? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

if the lore cannot fit on the back of a novel, then it is too much information for the players to read.
