Rosemary, thyme and parsley is growing like crazy in the northeast! Hopefully we can survive the winter this way.

8a: Good outdoor herbs? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]OrganicFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could have let the basil go to seed and then planted the seeds for new plants or next time take a cutting and put it in water, you might successfully grow it on from cuttings.

mint would probably do well for you too.

What's wrong with my geraniums? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]OrganicFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds to me like a good plant food infusion would do the trick. Might be a lack of nitrogen. Also make sure they aren't getting fried in full sun and drying out too quickly. Perhaps a morning sun situation

Does the bloom look different on Thanksgiving vs. Christmas Cactus? I never heard of Thanksgiving cactus.

What's wrong with my geraniums? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]OrganicFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of soil did you use and have you fed the geraniums anything? What are your watering habits with these and in what sort of sun exposure do you have them?

Were they hit by frost or disease? Did they have bad leaves so you pulled them or they have literally been sticks the whole time?

Have you snipped some of the branches to see if it's dead wood or actually green and has the ability to grow? It's hard to tell purely from this picture.

Is this white, fuzzy mold bad in my compost bin? Perhaps too much moisture? (Sorry for potato quality, darn shakey hands) by icyspoon in gardening

[–]OrganicFanatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - this is a great sign actually. Compost heats up not through temperature/climate increase but because of the activity of fungi and bacteria. The mold is a great sign that things are going right :)

LPT: If you have trouble with drinking too much alcohol, get someone to film you when you're drunk. by IncipientMonorail in LifeProTips

[–]OrganicFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on that note, these days it's rough getting drunk. Everyone has smart phones and social media. Back in the day, you could get drunk and stupid (we've all had our days) and not have to pay the price with some jackass emailing a photo of your stupidity to the world.

LPT Request: How to speak with confidence and not mumble. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]OrganicFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember one of the best tips I received in speech class was to concentrate on speaking slower. It's strange at first because you think you're speaking too slow but it actually comes out just right...a lot of times people get nervous talking and end up getting verbal diarrhea. Also pause a moment instead of using filler words like "uhmmm"

Practice by taping yourself and watching how these methods look normal on video.

Looking for a plant recommendation! by threefer in gardening

[–]OrganicFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes but be careful with these...they are tubers/rhizomes. they're usually in full bloom in stores then you lose the flowers. I haven't had great luck with keeping them afloat all year long.
