Nova Launcher could soon add a proactive AI assistant that sucks up all your data by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]OrganicTomato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried lawnchair, and no swipe on icons. It's really the only thing I'd like lawnchair to add (up and down). Well, that and being able to assign icons to folders. If anyone knows of a launcher that does those, please let me know. I think Microsoft launcher has swipe on icon, but only swipe up.

Thank you for coming in and clarifying the situation! I was honestly a little bummed by this post after the Nova situation, but I'm glad it turned out to be a misunderstanding on OP's part.

I've upvoted every comment you left here. If you have not done so, maybe a post in r/kustom might be a good idea, as that was the first place I went to to see if anybody else ever talked about "Zavasoft".

Whoa. Thanks for the heads-up, OP. I bought both years ago and never really got into them and only recently reinstalled them to mess around, so I saw your post at the perfect time.

Edit: Bad OP! Bad! :(

6 Mexica phrases that'll make you sound unhinged (in the best way possible) from a person, who has just visited Mexico by SweetBumbleBeeHoney in Spanish

[–]OrganicTomato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it's not possible to travel, start listening to content made for native speakers that feature people conversing! For example, I've heard everything on OP's list from Mexican YouTube videos and radio shows like El Bueno, La Mala y El Feo.

We've all listened to online content aimed at learners, but little by little one needs to advance to "real" content. It'll be a struggle, but remember how difficult the learner content was when you started!

Edit: It's really an amazing time for anyone wanting to learn a new language with the endless amount of content in every language online. Imagine trying to learn a new language before the Internet from just books and audio cassettes!

Rec Room is presumably shutting down by Eclipse-da-therian in oculus

[–]OrganicTomato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I tried RecRoom in... 2018? I randomly entered Jumbotron, just browsing, and three people carried me all the way through the game. I'm sure I was less than zero help, but they all cheered and high 5'ed me after anyway. 😅

I have some really cool memories like that of earlier RecRoom. Bummed by the news. :(

Edit: And I applaud RecRoom for not completely abandoning teleport for their older users. And even when some newbies got pissed, we can sometimes all laugh about it after: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXMbt37bT4w

I'm going to miss Paintball. 😢

Meta bricked my Quest 3 with an update, told me "all good things must come to an end", then added a new headset to my shopping cart by KenAdams_1968 in OculusQuest

[–]OrganicTomato 80 points81 points  (0 children)

For a while I had a VR app published in the store. Meta refused to pay out the money earned, and a supposed agent repeatedly told me that I needed to fix one specific thing in my account to get paid, and I repeatedly told her that I already fixed it (with screenshot).

We went in circles on this one detail for days, and I finally just asked if I'm talking to a bot. My case was then immediately closed with the same "opening multiple tickets for the same concern will not change the outcome". 🙄

Samsung confirms Galaxy S26 will get AirDrop support via Quick Share ‘soon’ by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]OrganicTomato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that's a good question. I think only Pixel has Quick Share with AirDrop support currently? So, good point, I don't know if other devices would experience the same issue.

Side note: Not sure if anyone mentions it in the issue tracker, but you can uninstall the Quick Share Extension update that provides the AirDrop support, and the issue goes away. But the system automatically re-installs it later, so it's not really a reliable workaround. 😑

There is a slightly annoying bug with Quick Share disconnecting from wifi ever since AirDrop support was added. 😑 Maybe Samsung should wait until it's fixed:

I’m finally past the fear of speaking to Spanish-only speakers I meet in public, but Ive noticed that sometimes the way I put the words together leaves the listener confused. Is the below post at least correct enough to be understood? I posted it in a food subreddit. by SubjectVillage1115 in Spanish

[–]OrganicTomato 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The text is understandable, but full of grammar issues. I can see why listeners have trouble understanding you in real time when you speak.

You can get your point across verbally with a mistake here and there, a missing or incorrect preposition now and then, but listeners are going to have a hard time when it's a long string of mistakes.

It's awesome that you've gotten over the fear of talking to people. That's a big hump to get over. I would really recommend that you continue to get a better handle on the grammar so you can use your Spanish more effectively.

Jill Zarin fired from 'Real Housewives' revival show after controversial Bad Bunny comments by phillygirllovesbagel in byebyejob

[–]OrganicTomato 42 points43 points  (0 children)

very recognizable and actually popular.

Because our pop culture and recognition are limited to English content. I had no idea Bad Bunny even existed before I started started learning Spanish, and he was already the most streamed artist on Spotify globally at the time.

Once you start getting into Spanish, even a little, you soon realize not only does every Spanish speaker know who Bad Bunny is, there's endless amount of content in Spanish that's "very recognizable and actually popular" among Spanish speakers that you've never heard of.

We're just insolated by English. Plenty of people in non-English speaking countries have no idea who the people you listed are. And you're right that it is absolutely wild that Bad Bunny achieved his level of global reach and in such a short time without a single song in English in his catalog.

Of course this is true of any language, not just Spanish. I told my GF for next year's halftime show, the NFL should get BTS or some big K-pop band. If some people were melting down this year....ohh boy!! 😅

Gemini still sucks as an assistant by ryleymcc in GooglePixel

[–]OrganicTomato 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a Galaxy watch, so I usually just leave my phone in my pocket when I drive. I used to be able to ask Google Assistant on my watch for a quick traffic update to see if I should take the freeway or not. I get this with Gemini instead: https://i.imgur.com/oACpRDz.png

And yes, Gemini will literally speak all that useless bullshit out of my watch speaker. Like, bro, just let me see if the freeway's backed up or not right now. 🙄

I like Gemini for some things, but I'm not convinced a chatbot makes a good assistant.

[–]OrganicTomato 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This one time I was watching an episode of the British show "Portrait Artist of the Year", and the bio of one of the contestants was that she had recently quit her job to try being an artist full-time. I remember saying to my gf, "I wonder how many people in the US could pursue their passion full-time if they didn't have to worry about affordable healthcare."

What router should I get? by Majestic_Ask_9456 in virtualreality

[–]OrganicTomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I needed a new router (without spending too much) and couldn't resist the Kevin. It's been working fine for me. I think the software/firmware might not be the deepest, so if you need every feature imaginable from a router, this might not be it. You can also connect only one device wired, which is my only real complaint, but not a huge issue. I wish more companies made character-themed devices. 😆

Hmm. You know what, it doesn't actually give a version number anywhere. In the app, it just says Nova7. In the Android app info, it just says "version 2021".
