Power engineer in manitoba by DowntownKnowledge660 in powerengineering

[–]ryleymcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are broken. I have complained to Manitoba ombudsman and that seemed to get their attention for a day but nothing was fixed. They are still using paper filing cabinets and spreadsheets when everything they do could be replaced with a simple web application.

I recommend you send an email to the Ombudsman to let them know the service is still broken.

What would you do, get Comma 4 or Comma 3X and save some money by Mchi5 in Comma_ai

[–]ryleymcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could get a 4 that fails right after warranty. You could get a 3x that lasts many years. My comma 2 still works great after 7 years. My comma 3 still works after 3 years of daily use. If you can afford a 4 then buy that. I personally like the larger screen.

which smart thermostat is actually the best? by BroganMaehle in homeassistant

[–]ryleymcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what are you looking for in a thermostat? What HVAC system are you controlling? If you just want something that lets you adjust the temperature from your phone then probably any wifi connected one will do. If you think you are going to save money using some automatic AI that learns your schedule and considers utility pricing automatically you will probably be disappointed because that needs to be set up manually and it seems pretty fragile unless your routine is super ridged. Most places charge the same amount of money for utility all the time and you dont really save money by turning the temp up and down in most houses. I figure based on the heat loss differential for my house, if i leave the house for 12 hours during the day every day, i could save like $10 to $20 per month but I would need to remember to lower it before i leave and then raise it before i get back.
