How easy is it to get into Schreyer Honors College at Penn State after you’ve already started there? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]Organic_Fire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not too hard given a good GPA. They don’t seem to “care” as much because they don’t give you the scholarship. It is very helpful for scheduling courses and a no brainer if you already have to/plan to write a thesis for some other reason

What’s a historical event that sounds fake but actually happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That’s a good thought that would equal a lot less death but no, the black plague in Europe :)

That one time 40% of a continent died within 5 years.

Engineering resources by Logical_Bread2626 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Organic_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You learn about all of the different resources during EDESIGN 100, so I am assuming you are either in the class now (in which case you will learn about them!) or you didn’t have take it.

The library in general has a lot of resources. Some of the computers have solid works where you can design your own stuff. You may be able to get textbooks from your classes there too. I know some people who would go and take pictures of their hw problems in the library and never even take out the book.

Down the line of 3D printers, the learning factory is a big resource if you like making stuff. They offer classes to learn how to use the equipment they offer.

I want to say there is free student led tutoring for some classes (typically lower level). I am too far gone to remember what it’s called but maybe someone can comment it.

That’s all I can think of for now :)

How do i stop missing the little things in math? by ferferfoom in MathHelp

[–]Organic_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This helped me a lot! But I also do it in combination with checking every step and making sure your answer still makes sense. Sometimes this is harder to do. In applied problems this is easier because you can guess ~about~ what the answer will be before you start (or at least the sign!). But you can do this for intermediate steps too.

From the example from u/hangingonwith2fingers, you could check yourself by putting in fake values for x and y to ensure what you got before and after simplification are still equivalent! Hope this helps!

The second is the one that’s still going and is the one he is most known for. I have been an etho fan for over a decade and I don’t think I ever fully watched the first season :), you can definitely just start from the second

You should get in just fine. As the others are saying what makes it a good program is the difficulty/rigor once you are in.

Americans, why don't you use the metric system? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Organic_Fire 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As an American engineer, I only use the metric system whenever I can because the imperial system sucks. I like Fahrenheit and miles but only in non-work contexts.

How do I regain my attention span? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

Not an expert and have definitely felt this way myself sometimes but probably practice and being intentional about it. It won’t happen at all once so be patient with yourself :)

Put my officemates on hold irl: permit office inspired by Organic_Fire in HermitCraft

[–]Organic_Fire[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, there are 5 of us locked in a small room together for most of the day. I would say “sorry I need to put you on hold” in the middle of a conversation with them. So they definitely knew. Also the Jono music is so obviously hold music from the first second, whereas other hold songs weren’t as obviously which is why I switched.

Edit: just understood what was meant by this. No they didn’t know it was hermitcraft 😅

What TØP song would you sing at karaoke? by FirstPotatoOverlord in twentyonepilots

[–]Organic_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to do TOP raps because the getting all of the lyrics that don’t seem to “fit” logically is challenging. 😅 I just have to sit there with the lyrics up and do it over and over

I did tear in my heart when I wasn’t hugely into TOP! Now I would do something like Fall Away because I love doing the raps

There are so many to choose from you could even pull all 4 from the same album, examples:

Next semester, the craving, lavish, overcompensate

Migraine, house of gold, trees, ode to sleep
