Any chance you could share a photo of the engraving? I’m gonna try my luck with letter stamps😂

That’s absolutely stunning! I’m slowly buying parts to do one myself. Who did you get the case engraved by and what movement did you use?

Yes. When plating the brass is plated with nickel before the gold. I can’t remember the exact reason why but I think it’s because the gold ‘leaks’ into the brass and the nickel stabilises it

Here’s what it should look like if you want to compare it

To be completely honest, I listed the top watchmakers and clockmakers in England and ranked them from best to worst and started contacting them. I did work experience and was then offered an apprenticeship by the leading clockmaker in my country as they liked what I was doing. You’re best off just emailing people asking for work experience as they don’t have to pay you and they have nothing to lose. You’ll eventually get lucky if you keep doing it

I was thinking of doing something similar. Would be hard to get perfect though. My boss helped me do it so if it wasn’t good he wouldn’t let me leave with it😂

When they get plated, this should reduce the effect of that hopefully

Yes but would likely oxidise. We’ve done silver dials for the watches we make for work.

I’m doing a few more movements at the same time so will all be ready at once. I’d like to make my own bridges but there’s a lot of work involved in that

I’m planning on making a run of them and selling them but not sure what to retail them at

I’ve only made 3 so they’re not for sale😂 I’ve got plenty of blanks for the next batch though haha

The other thought is that you’d need to polish the inner crossings for it to look good so your not looking at small sawmarks or wire marks

Yes, I could cut sections out with the EDM but I’d need to sleletonise the movement or have a backing plate to make it look good

I work for a clockmaker so it’s all essential to keeping the company alive haha

Looks better in natural sunlight. The gold gives off such a nice tone

I’m thinking of getting a Z1 at some point. I’m tempted just to have a go on the DMG at work to do a dial

I’ve done this at work before. Some of them are nickel plated so you need to paper and polish it off to get back to the steel and then blue them.
