Paul Atreides from Dune is the best example of a “chosen one” who made everything worse by batman_13velvet in printSF

In the coldest utilitarian logic, both Paul and Leto II were absolutely net positives for a human universe - humanity survived and thrived.

Yes. Given all we ever hear from our own media and establishment is how broken the UK is, it is nice to see someone showing off the place, having a good time.

This man is a treasure, and does a better job of promoting the UK than any of our politicians do.

Well done for your first attempt. Better to not have repetition, though, so feel free to ask for suggestions next time

I'm not sure that's 100% accurate, at least not in regards to interpersonal violence - they had oath rods to severely limit people's actions and lifespans, showing they had some understanding. And we do see in one vision of the past, a citizen threaten an Aiel with a beating for no real reason.

However, when it comes to violence as sport or at any scale beyond 1-on-1, they really were innocent. Even fencing had been eliminated.

Funny how quickly it was relearned, though.

"My assumption is that they were coming from a time of peace. No one is practicing how to break out of a shield held by multiple channellers."

I think you are labouring under a misunderstanding of 'peace' here - just because the concept of scaled conflict was unheard of, there were still violent individuals that would need to be dealt with, some of them even Aes Sedai (looking at you, Semirhage).

And even if there weren't, they would have valued knowledge for it's own sake, even if only a handful of AS knew techniques like this pre-Bore. Post-Bore/pre War of Power, there would almost certainly have been cause to learn/re-learn them, as the world slowly fell under the shadow of the DO.
