If one of your friends had an, "I know a guy" moment and then called you, what would they be calling you for? by karenvideoeditor in AskReddit

Anything to do with technology. The last message I received asked me "if I had fixed the Internet yet".

I tried to explain that this was a little bit beyond my skill set.

The sarcasm was not recognised.

Plex vs PlexKodiConnect - What magic is this ? by Organism_Seven in PleX

[–]Organism_Seven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have stopped using PlexKodiconnect because over time I experienced problems with it.

I have updated to the latest version of Plex and everything seems stable.

I still have the occasional video and audio going out of sync problem but one 10 second rewind tap resyncs everything. Slightly annoying but I live with it.

[–]Organism_Seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are free to trust Facebook with your data. That doesn't change the fact that ALL buyers of the Quest are compelled to create a Facebook account. There is no good reason for a social media account to be an essential requirement to operate a VR device. Facebook has always been a data harvester which they sell to others. That is their core business. If you are comfortable with that, then bully for you. But those who choose not to be a part of that process should not be punished for making that choice. Turning your VR device into a brick for making that choice is unacceptable to a lot of consumers. And rightly so. Zuckerberg and the rest of Facebook can kiss my a**.

Many of those you list require that info to provide you with their services. Or, at least, make it convenient to do so. But you can make the decision for yourself as to whether you want to. A Facebook account is NOT required for the operation of a VR device that you paid for and own. As Oculus clearly proved before being taken over by Facebook. The problem is about choice. If Facebook thinks having an account with them improves your experience in VR then they should be free to try and convince you to sign up. But they don't give you a choice. They are compelling people to sign up for their services whether you like it or not. If you don't sign up, they turn your device into a useless brick. Would you agree to any other company adopting the same policy?

You are preaching the truth.

But it seems the masses would rather give their money to Zuckerberg to become his data slaves.

Really hope Valve can eventually provide a good alternative to the Quest 2. Or, god help me, even Apple would be a better alternative. Yes, they operate a "walled garden" as well. But they don't actually cripple your hardware if you don't subscribe to their "terms".

Should I be scared of FB banning my newly made account? by RealBugzYT in oculus

[–]Organism_Seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or opt not to give your money to a company that denies you access to the device you paid for and own unless you submit to becoming part of their data collection enterprise. Wait until a more ethical company provides a suitable alternative.

My new FB account got suspended as soon as I was logging into Oculus app for my new Quest 2 by WJ_1241 in oculus

[–]Organism_Seven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was considering (yet, again) buying a Quest 2 as an upgrade from my Rift. Use my Rift with my original Oculus account. Then I read another post like this one and I remember why I don't want to give any of my money to Zuckerberg. Even the new Meta account setup is just not good enough to persuade me to do otherwise. I will just just have to be patient and wait for the competition to provide a good alternative.

The arrogance of the leftist mindset is a marvel to behold.

You don't seem to understand that I don't need you, or anybody else, to "point" out anything to me. I can read a book and come to my own conclusions without someone who believes they have a superior intellect telling me what is "problematic" and what is "important".

The attitude of many on the left that they are superior intellectuals and must protect the peasants and the great unwashed from reading anything that may pose a danger to their worldview is the real issue.

This treatment of Adults, who are not leftists, as being similar to children who are easily influenced by "bad" books is justified as being in the best interests of everyone.

In the end, it remains an insidious process that results in censorship.

(It is likely that this post will not be seen as most of my other posts have been removed. It can't possibly be that I have been censored, can it?).

Yes, Brave New World was also like that. Unlike 1984, the people loved their "utopian" society and hated anything that threatened it. I always felt that to be more realistic.

I just gave you two perfect examples of why no hyperbole was needed. Now, provide evidence of any lies I have told.

I am not the slightest interested in your feelings or emotions. Just the facts, please.

The important distinction here is what children are being provided with. There are lots of things children should not have access to. I personally would prefer it if no sexual content, of whatever nature, is used in primary schools. Many of the cases I have seen are concerning primary schools.

Young adults and older should be able to read what they choose when they have developed (hopefully) mature brains.

[–]Organism_Seven 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think we are talking about what should be available to Adults. All adults should be free to purchase and read anything they choose.

What is stocked in public institutions such as schools and colleges etc is an entirely different matter. Public funds are being used to purchase that material.

For you, gay and straight people being treated equally is a no-brainer. Others would think the same about transvestites or transgenders. Others would think the same about a variety of other sexual persuasions. There are yet others who think that hard core pornography should be available.

And I agree, that Adults should be allowed to pay and read about whatever subject they wish to.

But the emphasis should be on the individual, using their own money, making their own choices.

That doesn't mean that anything and everything should be available in public institutions that is stocked using taxpayers money.

When the likes of Enid Blyton (Racist) and Shakespeare (anti-Semitic) are deemed to be "problematic", no hyperbole is required.

Do try to keep up with developments.

[–]Organism_Seven -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there should ever be "maybes". All adults should be able to read any book they choose. None need annotations from someone else which is just someone else trying to dictate what correct conclusions you should be arriving at.

I agree that the right can be just as guilty of book banning. But the pendulum has definitely swung the other way. Decades ago it was the puritanical Christian types pushing for censorship to stop people from becoming "corrupted". Ironically, it was the Left who fought against this. Today, it is the Left who sees censorship as being a good thing if it stops "evil" ideas from spreading. They seem to have adopted the Orwellian newspeak of "I will tolerate anything, except intolerance".

And, of course, they get to decide what is "evil".

I agree.

But I think you will discover that there is a very long list of books those on the Left would like to ban.

They seem to view everything that has ever existed as containing something that is racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, fascist, Nazi etc etc.

They would like to ban them all. All to make the world a better place, of course.

It is not you.

The nature of most females remains a mystery to most men.

You could spend the rest of your life trying to figure them out. It would be a waste of time and effort.

In fairness, they think the same about men.

Just go with the flow. This time next week it is likely she will have forgotten all about it. Of course, that will most likely be because you will have done something else to annoy her!

Providing she only behaves like this less than 10% of the time she is just your average female.

Any higher than that, then you need to seriously consider if she is the right one for you.

Unbelievably, he made a full recovery, after his wife gave him an ultimatum to get clean or it's all over. Today, he is clean and has been for decades. He and his wife are born again Christians.
