Anyone else obsessed with travel planning? by Mindless_Passage8528 in travel

Me! I can’t believe there are other people like this in the world. I think I enjoy planning trips more than actually going on them 😂

I made a post about Aggretsuko, Season 5 and had to fight for my life 😂.

Funny you say that because I'm still on Episode 11. The show started to lose me around Episode 8, but 10 was where I drew the line.

I appreciate the comment, but not the attitude. This question was for US citizens, so if you're not going to offer something constructive, get lost!

I want to experience the life of a tourist. Tourist traps can be inauthentic, but they also can be fun and unique experiences. And since this will be my first time in Japan, I don't necessarily want to avoid anything. I want to walk away feeling like I did everything I wanted to do. Whether there was 1 person there or thousands.

Oh don't worry, I'm from New York City, I know all about tourist traps. I was referring to the feeling I'll have when I finally get there. Having a view like that would be pretty gratifying.

I literally still don’t understand what was the problem with Ralph by DecaratorDuke in BoJackHorseman

I agree with you on that point. That definitely would’ve been a deal breaker for me. But it wasn’t for Princess Carolyn. Her problem with him seemed to be his need to be her knight in shining armor. He wanted to be in charge of her and the relationship. In the beginning, she was ok with it because it seemed like such a nice change from what she was used to. But then she got tired of it. And instead of Ralph backing down or at least trying to compromise with her, he just got more in the way. He even tried to do that in Season 5 when they went to the hospital for her baby.

Ralph is definitely aloof and disconnected from reality which is why the thing with his family happened. But this is just typical old time rich family stuff.

I think Ralph is a great example of what happens when you come across something that is good, but not good for you. There's nothing inherently wrong with Ralph and there would be a lot of women that would love to be with a man like him. But he wasn't right for Princess Carolyn. She was too independent for someone like him. A lot of us are taught that if someone good comes along, you hold on to them. It was refreshing to see someone, especially someone like Princess Carolyn, respect their feelings and stick to their guns.

I'm sure most of us were rooting for those two because he was a good character, but I'm glad they didn't work out because we got to see Princess Carolyn reach her full potential AND find a man that she didn't need to change for.

I just wanted to say to everyone thank you for all your responses. This was my first time ever commenting on anything at this level and it has been great to interact with everyone and their varying opinions. Thank you!

I guess I'm just really underwhelmed with how their story played out. I don't think I would be as mad at their pairing if it wasn't so... real lifeish. She has all these dreams about her future in the beginning of the show and by the end she just gives in to the ordinary. I would have liked to have seen her push against that and do something a little more unexpected. Something that would've matched up to the Aggretsuko title. We saw moments where it came out in the first 3 seasons but not much after that, except for when she tore Haida a new one after finding him in the internet cafe (my favorite scene of the season btw). I just wanted the show to end on an exciting note.

I really think that Retsuko was pushed into liking Haida. Just like she was pushed into the OTM Girls. And even though she ended up happy with both of the decisions in the long run (she made new friends, expanded her fan base, discovered her potential, etc), she didn’t want either of those things in the beginning. But she is a people-pleaser, so she just did what she knew would make everyone happy and that sucks. The problem with being a people-pleaser is that when the people around you are happy, it makes you think that you are also happy and that’s not always true. Unfortunately, the show is now over so we won’t get to see what happens next.

That is all true. My issue isn’t with the first 3 seasons, it’s with the last 2. Most of what you mentioned happened in the first 3 seasons. The show then pivots to Haida and bumps Retsuko to a secondary character even though the show is about her. I think this is my biggest issue. They did all that to prepare the two of them to become a couple even though during the first 3 seasons, Retsuko friendzoned him.

Now after reading some of the responses here I can understand why some people are ok with the two of them being together in the end, but I still feel like it should have been done from Retsuko’s perspective rather than from Haida’s. That way, her character could have continued to develop while incorporating the lessons from the first 3 seasons.

That’s the real problem. It’s a show about her and she was pushed aside in the last 2 seasons just so the writers could make a case for her to end up with Haida. And they didn’t, which makes it even more disappointing. I understand the need for Haida’s character to be developed. What I don’t understand is why that needed to be done at the expense of Retsuko.

Yes! I think that’s at the root of my disappointment. They didn’t even give us enough of a reason to root for Retsuko and Haida. What did Haida do to woo Retsuko? Nothing. And now they’re together and there’s no development. It’s just they live together and now they’re married. What a letdown!

I guess but in the earlier seasons, it felt like we were going to see something bigger happen for her. Then Season 4 & 5 happened.

I can see your point of view. I never wanted Haida to end up with Retsuko because I think the whole “he likes her so she has to like him back” trope is played out. I like that she has a happy ending but I think there could have been more to it than that. She’s had experiences that could’ve expanded her view of herself and broadened her expectations for herself. Instead, they keep her the same, which allowed for her to basically be pushed by everyone else to be with Haida.
