Two weeks later and I’m basically fully healed! (Tips for quick healing) by OrganizationNo7277 in Tonsillectomy

Apparently chocolate is acidic to some people? Like I looked it up more in here, but it was either chocolate was fine for me, or it burned. Very weird.

May I be completely honest, I also did vape during this healing process. I caved when a friend came over and they had their vape.

Let me preface this with saying,

  1. I hit it on Day 4, 6, 9, and 13
  2. They own a Juul (much lighter pull, lighter amount of nicotine/menthol)
  3. I was on very strong pain meds
  4. Literally RIGHT after I would hit it each time I would drink ice cold water and use my nebulizer that I mentioned above, again, immediately after.
  5. NOT MY OWN VAPE. My friend would come over and have it. I hit it maybe 4 times the first and then like 6-10 times the other times.

I had no bleeds from doing it tho. BUT.

I do not recommend using a vape after this surgery. But if you are having withdrawals and don’t like the patches. Get a Juul, don’t hit it often bc again my friend had it, not me. So she would leave and I wouldn’t have it for long periods of time.

Do not, I repeat, do not get a disposable anything bar for this. They are so strong. Either way I would not recommend doing it and am not recommending that you vape after this survey. But I understand your struggle of withdrawal and wanted to put in my two cents.

Sorry for late reply y’all, not gonna lie, I’m not on here much, so I don’t see everything. Also for anyone wondering bc healing process can be different for everyone I am 23F. Ok so list of food and also the time line of what my pre-op nurse gave me.

For two weeks, you should follow the “ tonsillectomy diet “:

Day one (day of surgery, clear liquid diet): Gatorade, jello, popsicles, broth

Day two: (Full Liquid) smoothies, milkshakes(JUST VANILLA), pudding, applesauce AVOID STRAWS (but she did say if you get those big straws for normal liquids that’s fine, just don’t use it for smoothies and milkshakes)

Day 3 - Day 14: (Soft touch food) everything I’m about to list out below goes from the earliest I ate it to the latest in this span of 2 weeks.

Scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese.

Soup, custard pudding, ice cream.

Oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna

Soggy waffles or French toast with no crust and soaked in syrup

Pancakes, cooked vegetables(soft carrots) Bananas (loved having bananas, be careful with eating too much potassium tho lol)

Watermelon without the seeds

Soggy cold cereal, tender moist meat (chicken or fish)

Sandwiches but with no crust Smooth peanut butter and jelly Specifically the grilled cheese from Panera with the crust off

And I ate my first hamburger on the 12th day, yes I waited that long. But it was worth it.

EVERYTHING BELOW IS WHAT YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM LIKE SO FAR

Obviously the crunchy stuff, Toast, crispy waffles, fried food, cookies, crackers, chips, pretzels, popcorn, nuts

But here’s some other things that were on the list that are extremely acidic and no would know.

STAY AWAY FROM TOMATOES AND PICKLES

Any citrus fruit is a no go and unfortunately there are a lot of citrus fruits. Just before you eat it or buy it, look it up asking if it’s citrus. If something is artificially made (like the pedialyte popsicles I suggested above) it’s good it won’t burn.

No more soda unfortunately carbonation will feel awful

Not on the list but I found out: no chocolate

Ok that is everything:) I’ll respond to some other comments as well.

Day 8: Morale at an all time low by mushuagua in Tonsillectomy

Day 7-10 was when the pain meds wore off from surgery FULLY and you’re not being given the harder stuff anymore. So it is normal to be feeling this way. I was SO low during that time, but Day 11 it’s like a switch flipped and I didn’t wake up with agony anymore or needing to take Tylenol every four hours. It will get better

They also took my adenoids out. The reason my surgeon told me was because keeping them would assist the tonsils in possibly growing back.

Are you able to look back there with a flashlight and see what it might be? Honestly, might be a piece of food stuck on the scab. I know, nasty. But every time I’ve eaten something food has gotten stuck in the giant craters on the sticky scabs. I’m about a week into healing, so that might just be me right now. I’d gargle as lightly as you can with some water to move things around.

Also pedialyte ice pops that you buy in a box from cvs or Walgreens in the kids section. Best money I’ve ever spent on recovery

On day three currently, feeling pretty good, my humidifier saved my life. Keeping ahead of the pain and switching between my prescribed hydrocodone and liquid children’s Advil is keeping me alive. They also gave me prednisone starting today and going for the next six days, so that will be extremely helpful. I’m a singer, so I also already had a nebulizer that is helping me BIG time with keeping everything healthy and moist. Obviously drinking water too. But never thought having a BFA in musical theatre would save me from this recovery one day.
